That's one scary-arsed pancake.

Gingerbear · 15/02/2006 14:20

DD and I dislike this book. Read once, now languishing on the bookshelf.

Wish I had borrowed from library now rather than bought the dreaded thing.

We like Hairy Maclary from Donaldsons Dairy and any other clever rhyming funny books. (Gruffalo,Snail& Whale, Room on the Broom etc)

harpsichordcarrier · 15/02/2006 14:24

rhyming is an underrated skill
also scanning
the gruffalo woman is a genius at it
the BAckyardigans have some RUBBISH scanning
e.g. we are suPER VILLians
nonononono
I rhymed Antigua and Swarfega yesterday
it was a proud moment

throckenholt · 15/02/2006 14:25

I am not going to be able to read about Muffin Maclay to the kids again without being very careful what I say

another vote for whale and the snail and all Hairy Maclairy books. Don't like the smartest giant - I find it tedious, same goes for Bear Hunt.

My kids love them all

hunkermunker · 15/02/2006 14:25

You can be justly proud of that, HC [in awe of rhyming skill] [DS2 just exploded bottom-wise]

Bozza · 15/02/2006 14:26

I'm not talking technical or literary I just like snail and the whale better.

Spidermama · 15/02/2006 14:26

Love it. It's all in the delivery.

Blandmum · 15/02/2006 14:32

Can I admit to loving the Eddie and the Bear books?

Eddie's off to find his teddy
Eddie's teddy's name is Freddy

I bet I buggered up some of the 's there but I'm doing it from memory

madmarchhare · 15/02/2006 14:35

Now Peepo rhymes and has good pictures.

Blandmum · 15/02/2006 14:37

When I read the line '...the mirror with its rainbow rim,
and his mother with a baby,
Just like him'

I filled up with tears. My gran had a mirror just like that. I'm a soppy cow

madmarchhare · 15/02/2006 14:38

Oh, and the holes. Ooo, hungry caterpillar..

LOL at Hairy McArsey - at least that's how I read it.

My Nan had that mirror too, and while I won't admit to blubbing, I do have nice memories when I see that page.

What about the Bear Want's More/Stays Up/Snores On books - they rhyme well and they're about a bear - literary gold.

Enid · 15/02/2006 14:44

hes lost him in the woods somweher

its dark and horrible in there

(genius)

Blandmum · 15/02/2006 14:46

He tiptoed on and on untill....

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 15/02/2006 14:47

ps sorry about that rogue apostrophe, this is a literary thread after all, least I could do is spell and punctuate correctly

Enid · 15/02/2006 14:48

something made him stop
quite still

Blandmum · 15/02/2006 14:49

look out he said
there is something there....

throckenholt · 15/02/2006 14:49

who wrote the Eddy books - is it the same person as Fix it Duck etc ?

Enid · 15/02/2006 14:51

.........
(forgotten!!)
a giant teddy bear!

Clary · 15/02/2006 14:51

Oooh martianbishop, I love Where's my teddy, and Peepo.
The first time I read Peepo to DS1 (many moons ago) I also cried at the end, "mother with a baby, just like him", oooh filling up as I type. DH says I'm mad but at least I'm not the only one.
I love bear hunt, reading it to DS2 last night at the swimming pool (he has to watch lessons for an hour and is very good).
I always say the bear just wanted to play. DS fascinated by the way they take their shoes off, baby gets carried, dog swims etc.
Looooooove Axel and Julia of course, Room on Broom is my fave ("buzz off, that's my witch)

madmarchhare · 15/02/2006 14:51

No rhymes but Whatever Next and Peace at Last are fabbo bear books.
