Should have name changed for this but I'm to lazy, oh the shame Grin

After seeing Mrscampbellblacks nick name on the s&b threads. It reminded me how much I enjoyed her books. Can anyone remember what sequence they follow before I pounce on the second hand book shops.

Was it polo, riders, jump.

Have you read Class? non-fiction, study of the English class system, dead funny and spot on. Not since Nancy Mitford has anyone skewered social attitudes so mercilessly. She is a very smart woman.

hermionestranger · 04/05/2012 20:00

I love class! Brilliant study of the English.
I also muchly adore The Common Years.

Hurrah for Jilly!

BerryLellow · 04/05/2012 20:01

Rivals is my absolute favourite. Wicked and Jump v v disappointing.

I re watched the TV series of Riders on sky not so long ago, and it was terrible - at the time I thought it was unbearably racy and exciting, but then I was a child :o

ReactionaryFish · 04/05/2012 20:02

Can we have a Jilly webchat?

hermionestranger · 04/05/2012 20:03

I think Riders is due for a remake on the telly!

Let's plan a cast list!

ReactionaryFish · 04/05/2012 20:05

TV versions never work because they can never get R C-B right because the man who could fit the mould of R C-B SIMPLY DOESN'T EXIST.
I know, I've looked

mycatsaysach · 04/05/2012 20:06

huge jilly fan here

i reckon dominic cbatch could be rupe

CalamityKate · 04/05/2012 20:07

I love Jilly!

I wish they'd make a miniseries of Rivals - it's my favourite. I always imagined Taggie as Catherine Zeta Jones (Darling Buds of May era).

Nobody is goodlooking enough to play RCB.

mycatsaysach · 04/05/2012 20:08

sorry meant benedict - we always call him dominic here as my mum calls him that ooops

foxeeroxee · 04/05/2012 20:08

Oh i love jilly!!
Was introduced to them by my wonderful mil who said 'i bet you like a mucky book!' Wink
My favourites are Riders and The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous. I wanted to call ds1 Lysander or Rupert but oh vetoed them. Angry
Have to agree that Jump was utter shite though.

ReactionaryFish · 04/05/2012 20:09

Cumberbatch? Are you out of your freakin mind?

Saying Dominic makes me think of Dominc West . Bloody good actor, could pull off the character, not quite handsome enough tho.

fussbucket · 04/05/2012 20:10

Surely Rupert Campbell Black is based on Andrew Parker-Bowles? I saw an interview with Jilly once where she said that R C-B was about 50% him and bits of three other men she refused to name

Get0rfMoiLand · 04/05/2012 20:10

Class was my BIBLE when I was ateenager.

I love it.

I reckon in perfect seriousness that her books will die a death for 100 years and then will be resurrected and celebrated as classics a la Jane Austen. They are really brilliant social comedies.

I want to know what happened to all the minor character;

Lizzie Vereker
Luke Alderton
Fenella Ferranti

This is very sad but I remember when I moved to Cheltenham and went shopping in Cavendish House at christmas, I went to the loo in there and though 'this is where Diasy Macleod came to dry her eyes after she found she had no money, and where she met Drew'

I have never met a RCB type in 5 years of living in Gloucestershire. Ffs.

fussbucket · 04/05/2012 20:11

Is Jump the one with the rather dotty woman who keeps falling for Animal Rights crap? Gave up in sheer boredom after about 50 pages, so disappointed.

ReactionaryFish · 04/05/2012 20:12

If Rupert Everett was 10 years younger and shaved that bloody beard off he could do it ... I know not blond, but definitely posh and arrogantly handsome

hermionestranger · 04/05/2012 20:13

Didn't like marry Perdita? They had little Eddie who was good at skiing.

hermionestranger · 04/05/2012 20:14

Luke not like.

fussbucket · 04/05/2012 20:14

Class is unnervingly accurate even 40 years on. GetOrf, there are definitely some RCBs here (N Wilts), maybe they've all migrated 50 miles down the M4?

fussbucket · 04/05/2012 20:15

The trouble with Rupert Everett is that we all know he's gay, even tho' he's a damn good actor, and RCB is so very very not homosexual.

letseatgrandma · 04/05/2012 20:16

Hmmm, I can't think who is handsome enough to play R-CB! Someone a bit posh, obviously. Rupert Penry-Jones style, but he's a bit old.

ReactionaryFish · 04/05/2012 20:18

No I can see Rupe being played with a undercurrent of repressed homosexual desire - animal, vegetable, mineral, he's so randy he'll shag anything

fussbucket · 04/05/2012 20:18

We seem to be stuck on Ruperts here. I think Rupert Penry-Jones could still just about do it, he did bastard vair well in Silk last year.

BerryLellow · 04/05/2012 20:18

Definitely not Cumberbatch, nonono

Dominic West maybe not RCB, but he should definitely get a part

ReactionaryFish · 04/05/2012 20:19

Penry-Jones not handsome enough and too middle class.
