I've only just got around to reading this and finished it about half an hour ago.

Please pass the kleenex while I make a fool of myself

That good, huh? Grin Its on my to read list.

CydCharisse · 24/01/2012 17:58

Nah, it's cliched trash with a desperately obvious plot twist and two main characters who no-one could like! (I realise I am pretty much alone in thinking this though Grin)

maisie215 · 24/01/2012 18:00

Fwiw I agree with cyd Smile

MrsJohnDeere · 24/01/2012 18:03

Drivel

DreamingofSummer · 24/01/2012 18:09

No many books with THAT plot twist though! I didn't see it coming (but there again neither did she!)

Yes, you'd cry, because it is so damned dreadful!!!

Absolute tosh.

FullBeam · 24/01/2012 18:50

I cried for about a morning!

GrimmaTheNome · 24/01/2012 19:32

I quite liked the woman but the bloke was a wazzock.

fivegomadindorset · 24/01/2012 19:33

Cyd you are not alone, it sat on my shelf for a year, just didn't feel the urge to read it, saw the film and promptly donated said book to the library.

carlajean · 25/01/2012 07:14

I gave up half way through, glad to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't 'get' it

DaydreamDolly · 25/01/2012 07:18

I'm currently half way through it, have been halfway through it for about 6 months, it's just not grabbing my attention. I love a plot twist tho so I may pick it up again. My problem is all I have in my mind is that awful Anne Hathaway that played Emma in the film, I can't bear her and means I am having trouble liking the character.

CydCharisse · 25/01/2012 16:19

Woo hoo! I am so glad I am not alone! Everyone I know in real life thought it was wonderful.

bumblebeader · 27/01/2012 21:39

I really liked it!

pictish · 27/01/2012 21:42

Insipid shite.
Read it. I can't see what seperates it from the rest of the lukewarm, predictable chick lit fluff.
Why is it so revered??!!

mumblesmum · 27/01/2012 21:43

Cardboard characters, predictable plot, boring.

Thingiebob · 27/01/2012 21:52

I thought it was pants as well.

canihavesome · 27/01/2012 21:54

Rubbish, and completely predictable. He was awful and twatish and she was pathetic.

CestTout · 27/01/2012 21:56

Hated it too, pleased to see other people did. I read a fair bit of trash but this was so slow/boring for the first half of the book.

PandaG · 27/01/2012 21:59

I didn't like it. Opinion divided in rest of my book group. I certainly didn't want to go and see the film as I did not want to waste any more time withcharacters I could not stand!

OhTootles · 27/01/2012 22:02

Loved it but then I cried at the Time Travellers Wife so.....

PippiL · 01/02/2012 21:36

I didn't get it either. The characters didn't make sense for me. Thought it clunky and obvious.

spottyscarf · 02/02/2012 12:06

I liked it!

spottyscarf · 02/02/2012 12:06

I liked it!

IndigoBell · 02/02/2012 12:12

I didn't even finish it. Didn't get it at all.

AspirantPirate · 07/02/2012 10:15

The most overrated book of the last couple of years. Going by the gushing reviews all over the cover I thought I was in for the read of the century. Fell a long way short! To be fair, I would've probably found it a readable, reasonably enjoyable book if it wasn't so hyped, but it just left me thinking "Really? All that fuss, for THIS?" and consequently I ended up hating it.

Both main characters were utterly loathesome (she was a drip, he was a twat) and what was with the cardboard-cut-out stand-up comedian cliche boyfriend?
