Yeah, I rattled through that one in a state of bliss in September I think it was Suns. Romptastic.

Bombleaf There is just no point trying to read anything until you've read all of those. They are all consuming. And also blissful joy (of a different kind).

I am nearly there with TTW. I am about 90% through it. Unfortunately, it hasn't grown on me. I find the mix of folk tales, the protagonist's story and her grandfather's memories a bit of a disorganised mishmash, tbh.

eurochick · 18/01/2012 14:00

I've finished it. My comments of yesterday stand.

InTheSunshine · 18/01/2012 19:46

I have been on lots of trains this week & have read the latest Joabba Trollope - Daughters in Law. I liked it. Her books generally make me feel calm.

InTheSunshine · 18/01/2012 19:47

Joanna not Joabba (bloody fat fingers)

CurlyCasper · 23/01/2012 20:23

Guess none of us are doing too well with the book then? Wink

FriendofDorothy · 23/01/2012 21:32

I am still finding it really hard going. It seems to flip about all over the place and doesn't really make sense. I think because I don't love it I have to really work at reading it which means I don't just read the lot in one go and therefore I lose the plot. Does that make sense?

MadameBoolala · 23/01/2012 23:15

Caspieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! How are you? I have read the first chapter. I am just not getting into it. I will finish it, but not by the deadline.

CurlyCasper · 24/01/2012 12:01

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I am good ta. Missing you! And giving some serious consideration to re-beshing in the near future. I keep picking up TTW and then falling asleep. I did a couple more chapters at the weekend. dorothea what you say makes perfect sense. I have read about five chapters and still have no idea where the story is going. There's no sense of what I should be reading on to find out.

eurochick · 24/01/2012 14:31

I finished it and still have no idea where the story was going...

I was talking about it with a colleague this morning and she loved it. Our tastes in books usually coincides but not in this case!

I have just finished the Sense of an Ending, which I loved.

rocketleaf · 24/01/2012 17:33

I have read the first chapter. Must admit to not being gripped by it and am getting drawn back to Fire&Ice instead. I have so little opportunity to read I sort of resent spending that time reading something I am not that into although I admit I havent really given it enough of a crack to REALLY make an informed decision. But the comments on here are not really inspiring me to persevere :S

FriendofDorothy · 24/01/2012 17:51

I know, I have nearly binned it several times, but I am determined to finish it!

FriendofDorothy · 28/01/2012 18:04

Well I finished it but thought it was generally rubbish. I just lost the thread of the story all the way through and couldn't see the point. I didn't care enough about any of the characters!

eurochick · 30/01/2012 14:31

Well done, Dot! At least two of us made it through. I didn't find myself caring about the charaters either. I cared a little for the Tiger's Wife but (trying to avoidn spoilers) found the ending to that tale somewhat unsatisfactory.

What are you reading now? I am getting through an unusual amount at the moment. After TTW I made my way through The Sense of an Ending, Birdsong, The Importance of Being Ernest and I am now on A Visit from the Good Squad. I only usually read this much on holiday but my immune suppressants are making me sleep poorly which gives me extra reading time!

FriendofDorothy · 30/01/2012 16:45

I am reading Hothouse Flower. Proper chick lit and I am really enjoying it. Makes a change to read something with an actual story!

CurlyCasper · 01/02/2012 06:39

I've still not read any more Sad I see there's another thread about the book. Must see what they are saying.

eurochick · 02/02/2012 16:50

I am reading the Call the Midwife book. It fits with my current baby obsession and is set around London's Docklands, where I used to live, so many of the places are familiar (although conditions had moved on a bit by the time I lived there!). The writing is not of a very high standard but it is interesting and quite a page turner.

AlpinePony · 11/02/2012 12:10

I am weeping because I've today already seen 2 threads asking if Susan hill's 'woman in black' is "any good". I'm not even a literary snob (far from it), but it's making me want to kill. :(

eurochick · 14/02/2012 14:44

Well, is it?
