I'm reading Hesters Story by Adele Geras.

OP posts:

I've just started Northern Lights (His Dark Materials) - not got into it yet. I'm also reading Instances of Three by Salley Vickers (who wrote Miss Garnett's Angel) - just started that too.

mummycan · 31/10/2005 12:45

Just finished The Line of Beauty - very interesting - I know Enid has read it - what did you think Enid?

mummytosteven · 31/10/2005 13:05

just finished reading Seeking whom He may Devour by Fred Vargas (off the wall French murder mystery). About to read Thud by Terry Prachett.

Racers · 31/10/2005 13:08

mummytosteven, I misread your name, missing out the 't' and thought - how the hell does she have time to read! LOL!

Racers · 31/10/2005 13:08

the second 't' I should have said

Miaou · 31/10/2005 13:12

Just came on here to add the book I'm reading ... and noticed I've already posted on here!! Am now on The Subtle Knife (second of the trilogy) and really getting into it. I balance the book on my knees while feeding ds and get my reading in that way.

Racers · 31/10/2005 13:29

Miaou I've read the trilogy, it's a real pageturner isn't it? Quite dark and deep for a children's book I thought, but then I'm just a big scaredy cat wuss!

Also read HP6 exclusively whilst breastfeeding in the first few weeks as she could lie on a pillow and I had 2 hands free not so easy now she's older and more fidgety.

I guess a lot of you have read the DaVinci Code - have you read his others? I loved this and Angels and Demons but the other two (Deception Point and Digital Fortress) were disappointing. They were engaging but the content was just not as enjoyable, I felt. Fans of these books might like Matthew Reilly's Ice Station and Temple - action packed isn't in it... I don't know what his others are like.

mummytosteven · 31/10/2005 13:39

Racers - I always knew I should have spelt Steven with a PH

I like the Subtle Knife best of the Trilogy!

Racers · 31/10/2005 13:42

nah, V is best - my bro's is spelt that way! (OTOH have a bro-in-law with a PH!)

yes, agreed that subtle knife was the best. I lost my way a bit in the final one but was still dying to know what happened.

Stilltrue · 31/10/2005 14:25

State of the Union - Douglas Kennedy. Great!

suedonim · 31/10/2005 19:56

Arabica · 31/10/2005 23:14

Marathon Running for Mortals -- for inspiration. Last week read the latest Harry Potter which was approx 350 pages too long; and am also reading some memoirs by Marc Almond.

unicorn · 31/10/2005 23:27

Belle de Jour.. diary of a London Call girl...

anyone care to join me in this admission?!!

Arabica · 01/11/2005 00:28

I've read it but I still feel I don't know anything about her; it had a made-up feel. If I'd paid for her I'd have asked for a refund!

unicorn · 01/11/2005 00:31

yep arabica!! - wouldn't be surprised if 'she' is a hairy armed MN trucker!!!!

I'm reading "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult. It's the first one of her books I've read and I'm finding it hard to put down.

flamesparrow · 01/11/2005 08:04

Not just me that has a "toilet read" Mine's Lords and Ladies!!!!!!

harpsichordcarrier · 01/11/2005 08:16

oh Enid I read that on holiday I thought it was completely fabulous. Did you thhink, though, that the writer had really rather shot her bolt a bit? I mean for her first novel she had used up all her reswearch and ideas??
I am reading Writing Home Alan Bennett, it's all I can concentrate on at the moment

amouse · 01/11/2005 09:13

I have just finished The Pact by Jodi Picoult .... undoubtably one of the best, if not the best book I have ever written, I have barely slept for 4 days because I just cant stop reading it, got my first night sleep last night.
For those of you that are still reading it .... the ending is just as amazing as the rest of the book
