Small Island by Andrea Levy. Only 70 pages in but think it is excellent so far. Just wish I had a couple of clear days to do nothing but read.

Binkie, I'm very impressed by Morte d'Arthur!

And I'm only on page 9...

And last night I looked at the JoJoMamanBebe catalogue for about 30 seconds before my eyes closed and that was it...zzzz....

binkie · 10/10/2005 12:10

Yes, I was going to say how do you manage to prop up the eyelids, but I thought you might be offended by my assuming you had to ...

Morte d'A is bit of curate's egg - lots of "and then X dehorsed Y, and then Z rehorsed Y, and then Z dehorsed B, and then ..." but also the utter utter surrealism of the Questing Beast. Loads of shenanigans I hadn't a clue about, given how the stories got filtered by Tennyson etc.

binkie · 10/10/2005 12:11

(that was to dino, btw. Must remember to put names in.)

compo · 10/10/2005 12:11

School is Not Compulsory - The Essential Introduction to Home-Based Education.
Education Otherwise.

unicorn · 11/10/2005 20:04

just read 'My sisters keeper'...Jodi Picoult.

It will make a fantastic film I think.
It is very very interesting on morals/ethics - and issues of parenting/siblings etc...

(a tadge contrived - but hey ho that's what makes a hollywood blockbuster!!!)

A hundred and one days, a Baghdad journal.

It's a reporters story of her time in Iraq when was was imminent.

Hazellnut · 11/10/2005 20:32

Whats it like Angeliz ? I have it on my to be read pile and I am needing to start a new book. I didn't actually enjoy the bookseller of kabul that much... is it similar ??

phatcat · 11/10/2005 20:36

interweaving 'In Another Light' by Andrew Greig with 'The No Cry Sleep Solution' by Elizabeth Pantley. Really looking forward to the new Alan Bennett next.

Posey · 11/10/2005 20:38

Home by Julie Myerson.
Interesting for the social history once you give up trying to remember all the relationships!

Have got "Can you tell what it is yet?" Rolf Harris biography to read next.

Angeliz · 11/10/2005 20:38

I haven't read the bookseller of Kabul but am finding this quite easy to read and follow. Very interesting too.
(I only manage half an hour each night in bed though as baby has decided that sleeping all night is actually quite boring!! )
