yo-yo I'm reading small island too. Perhaps I should be reading it now, instead of posting!

MrsSpoon · 15/10/2005 20:32

Now reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt, hooked already (only about 10 pages in).

albert · 15/10/2005 20:51

I've got 3 on the go at the moment - The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan, The Unknown Errors of Our Lives by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and Flat Stanley to DS before he goes to sleep

MrsSpoon · 15/10/2005 21:06

LOL albert, in that case I'm reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too, it's very good!

beetlejuice73 · 15/10/2005 22:35

Mrs Spoon, glad I read Secret History before becoming a mother. Otherwise DD would have had to change her own nappy.

mugface · 15/10/2005 22:54

I was also very dsapointed with Nick Hornby's A long way down. Really quite boring! The characters i couldn't warm to and it was just very samey all through.

I would heartily recomend Adele Parks, have read 3 of her books recently and really enjoyed them.

bosscat · 15/10/2005 23:13

am reading dan brown's angels and demons, don't ask me why and if I don't finish it soon I'm going to top myself because its toe curlingly bad.

Gomez · 15/10/2005 23:15

Gulag, by Anne Applebaum. Absolutley enthralling.

MrsSpoon · 16/10/2005 16:00

Beetlejuice, good job I'm going away for a couple of days, minus children then! Just DH to try and neglect!

Nbg · 16/10/2005 16:02

The Highway Code!

Gobbledispook · 16/10/2005 16:08

One Last Look - Harlen Coben.

Not getting very far though as I'm shattered by the time I go to bed.

Just read The Pact - Jodie Picoult - very good.

singersgirl · 18/10/2005 22:49

"Disgrace" by J M Coetzee, though haven't got very far.

piffle · 18/10/2005 22:51

marthamoo · 18/10/2005 22:52

Labyrinth by Kate Mosse (no, not Kate Moss). Can't get into it at all.

busybusybee · 18/10/2005 22:55

THe world according to Clarkson!

spookylucy · 18/10/2005 23:03

Still trying to finish alan caarr the easy way to stop smoking. For enjoyment im reading The curious incident of the dog in the night-time by Mark Haddon. Its written from the view point of a teenage boy with Asperger's. It's funny and sad!

SueW · 18/10/2005 23:13

I've just finished Blitzcat by Robert Westall and moved onto a Famous Five (can you tell I'm raiding DD's bookshelf?)

Arabica · 19/10/2005 19:30

The Vesuvius Club by Mark Gatiss--hilarious, melodramatic and sexy!

fullmoonfiend · 19/10/2005 19:33

The Little Friend - Donna Tartt- highly recommended. Just finished Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood. Brilliant but SCARY!

Lonelymum · 19/10/2005 19:35

I'm reading Some Other Rainbow by John McCarthy and Jill Morrell.

I last read Captain Corelli's Mandolin. (I am a bit behind most readers!)

80sMum · 19/10/2005 19:39

Just read "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, which I first saw mentioned on here a few months ago. Highly recommend it.

Nightynight · 19/10/2005 20:02

i am working my way through the complete works of Barbara Cartland

milosmum · 19/10/2005 20:13

on the 6th book of the In Death series by J D Robb- great stuff!

foxinsocks · 19/10/2005 20:20

swedishmum - have you read Jonathan Coe's The Rotters Club (and it has a sequel The Closed Circle). I think he is one of the better modern writers. Also, The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst is well worth a read.

Racers · 19/10/2005 20:21

Rowlers - would be interested in what you think of John O'Farrell's book.

Am very much enjoying "I Blame the Scapegoats" - like Bill Bryson's "Notes from a Big Country" it is a series of column pieces so very handy to read a short section whenever you get a minute!

(Plus it is my favourite book title ever )
