(appologies if there is already a thread on this - I couldn't find it)

Anyone applied to do the World Book Night Book Giveaway thingy? still a couple of days to apply.

DH has applied and if he gets given a box of books,I will help him with the giving. I looks like a good selection, we are already trying to work out who should get what.

have you got a computer?
make a label and print out 48 copies of it (prob 3 or 4 sheets of stickers)
that's what the giver i've spoken to today has done. Grin

NorthernGobshite · 05/03/2011 11:15

I haven't got any labels so will just bget dh and dd to help write them!

chocolateshoes · 05/03/2011 11:23

I'm giving away 'Cloud Atlas'. Only problem is I haven't been given any ID nos - have done the rest of the labelling and will wait til later but otherwise mine will be given with no numbers. Am trying but faili to log on to the WBN website. Am going out for dinner tonight so will take books there but will call in at our local pub on the way and dish some out there. Hope it gets a high profile on TV news over the country tonight. Some poeple have organised some really good eevents

nickelbabe · 05/03/2011 11:27

Confused that's odd, chocolate - maybe they give it to you when you log on.

Just checked my last box - look on the label of the box (with the address of the collection point)
it should say your name.
it also says "world Book Night"
and a number starting "wbn"
it's that number you need.

NorthernGobshite · 05/03/2011 20:13

The numbers were emailed out, they don't start with wbn. There is a unique number for each copy, not just each title.

bluejeans · 05/03/2011 20:24

ohhhh I'm really hoping the doorbell rings and someone gives me a book Smile. Unlikely though, the people I know who might be interested in WBN don't live locally...

chickbean · 05/03/2011 21:17

Bluejeans - if you message me your address I can send you one of my copies of "All Quiet on the Western Front" if you like - I don't like to think of you bookless!

Have parcelled most of mine up for various reading groups, but I have a few spare, so I'm hoping to find someone to swap for "Toast", "The Reluctant Fundamentalist", "Agent Zigzag" and "A Fine Balance", as I haven't read any of those.

Have just been to a really nice evening at Waterstones and met some other local givers.

bonkers20 · 05/03/2011 21:26

I'm giving out A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry.
I'll be giving them out at work on Tuesday (the first day I'm in the office after tonight).

It's fine to give them out after the date, but they preferred you not to hand them out beforehand.

I haven't written the darn id numbers in yet. I'll probably do that as I hand them out.

I was in the local paper and everything!

bluejeans · 05/03/2011 22:10

Aw thank you chickbean - that is very kind of you and only if you have some left over. I will of course pay postage. I have never read 'All Quiet...' although I remember other classes doing it at school - for some reason we did Brave New World, 1984 and The Day of the Triffids etc so very different

I will PM you my address, thank you again Smile

mummylouise · 06/03/2011 11:46

i had marion keyes book - the kids and i put books in envelopes and put them on the doorsteps of our street. they loved it as it made them feel like santa!

KatieWatie · 06/03/2011 11:58

I had "Stuart - a Life Backwards" to give out, not my first or second choice and a totally depressing sounding book!

Still got loads of copies left but going to give them out at work tomorrow...

chocolateshoes · 06/03/2011 15:37

well I couldn't log on to the website - it just never went through, and haven't been mailed any nos so have given half of mine out with no ID numbers. Still have half left although lots will be going tomorrow. Went inot the local pub to give some out and overheard someone at the bar saying' oh heard about that on the radio' was a nice feeling. Hope its been a success

NorthernGobshite · 06/03/2011 16:41

Katie Stuart - a life backwards is a wondeful book. It is depressing, but its also beautifully written and fascinating!

atrociouscook · 06/03/2011 17:53

I applied and got 40 copies of Toast by Nigel Slater. It wasn't hard to get rid of them - merely saying they were free made everyone want one! Surprising how many people didn't know about it though.

atrociouscook · 06/03/2011 17:55

Hi Bluejeans

I can let you have a copy of Toast in exchange for your All Quiet......

deepdarkwood · 06/03/2011 17:55

If I ever do it again, I"ll make sure I choose a small, light book. 48 copies of A Fine Balance = two heavy boxes....

deepdarkwood · 06/03/2011 17:56

Oh, and if anyone wants to do a swop, pm me Smile

TheMonster · 06/03/2011 18:28

I have The Reluctant Fundamentalist if anyone wants a swap.
I already have a copy of All Quiet though, and the Lee Childs book.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 06/03/2011 19:50

I'll do a swap- I've got Beloved.

lostinwales · 06/03/2011 20:15

I've been given a book but there is no number or anything in it, I'm enjoying it though. Would love to swap it with someone when I finish, it's Case Histories by Kate Atkinson.

Drmelons · 06/03/2011 20:32

could have been from me lostinwales- gave mine out before I realised that i was supposed to write a number in them!

Enjoy it- its a good read

TheMonster · 06/03/2011 20:52

Is that Beloved by Toni someone? I've read that one.

BigBadMummy · 06/03/2011 20:56

I was on the reserve list so didnt get my WBN numbers. I went to bookcrossing.com and registered them all individually and made a little sticker for each book.

Then put that in the back page with a note in the front about why there is no official WBN number and asking people to register on the bookcrossing site so that we can track them as they are released into the wild!

I got Killing Floor, if anybody wants a copy, do DM your address.

Took ten copies into Starbucks this morning and put one on each table!

KatieWatie · 06/03/2011 21:45

northerngobshite in that case I will keep a copy for myself to read (before passing on of course :) )

NorthernGobshite · 06/03/2011 21:46

Its worth keeping a copy anyway, there's only 40,000 of each title printed in these special editions so may be collectors item in future.
