The Little Stranger (Sarah Walters) - paranormal goings-on in crumbling, class ridden country house
The Time Traveller's Wife - Audrey niffllneggegegbdtwekdhwdh... - Smile - love story across the years, more complex than the film.
Cloud Atlas (David Mitchell)- interwoven stories across time, confusing but memorable!
Property (valerie martin)- spoilt wife of deep south plantation owner and her relationship with her slave

cone here you feckers? interesting thread title Grin but sorry not of any help.

Have you tried James herbet. Some of his books are weird. But i do quite like 48 which is based in an appocoleptic post 2nd world war britian and is an interesting spin on what might have happened.

not even heard of the titles you like though so it suggests my reading tastes are a tad out of date.

Not really sci fi though, well not by my def of sci fi. It basically says what if hitlers scientific capability was better then it was and nobody won the war. More action with a twist. Although not to be recommended if you have a sensitive stomach.

He mainly does pscyological and horror (is found in the horror section)

jacksgrannie · 07/11/2010 18:17

Would recommend The Lacuna, by Barbara Kingsolver. Her first novel for a while and as good as the Poisonwood Bible I think.

BelligerentGhoul · 07/11/2010 18:40

Ooh I loved Pacers. Wish they'd bring them back.

Don't read The Girls - it was terrible. Sorry, RealityBomb!

Have you read The Bolter? Tis non-fiction about posh women having lots fo sex. Pretty good.

Maybe some Liz Jensen?

City Of Shadows by Ariana Franklin and The Death Instinct by Jed Rubenfeld are both set in the 1920s and are better than the average historical thriller things. I read both of them over half term and really enjoyed them. They are well written and well researched, though the historian in you may prefer the latter as the first is about the idea that Anastasia may have survivied the Romanov murders.

BelligerentGhoul · 07/11/2010 18:41

Oh and have you read The Virgin Suicides? it's brill - better than Middlesex!

champagnesupernova · 07/11/2010 18:57

Now you come and post on my thread you fecker.
Grin

"non-fiction about posh women having lots of sex"? Are these some specific women, or posh women in general?

BelligerentGhoul · 07/11/2010 21:44

Posh women having lots of sex here

stenogirl · 08/11/2010 05:56

What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty

happychappy · 08/11/2010 06:05

I read the 5 people you meet in heaven. It was beautiful. I read it twice. I never read a book twice and Im thinking of reading it again.

SophieMan · 08/11/2010 08:45

The The Prophecy by Sarah Luddington. Find it on Amazon. Real Vampire supernatural and romance bit of sex and violence thrown in!

brimfull · 08/11/2010 09:19
