I'm halfway through this and don't think I've ever laughed out loud so much at a book! It's totally not the kind of thing I'd normally read... I recommend it to anyone who wants to read something summery and have a laugh!

Has anyone else read it who can back me up?! Would welcome suggestions on what to read next that can make me laugh as much as this

I can back you up I read it a few months ago and it was hilarious. I've recommended it to a few people but no-one seems interested.

I've not really read anything else like it although I'd be interested. Not sure if she's written anything else.

midnightexpress · 23/07/2010 20:36

She's a friend of mine - shes writing a follow-up at the moment.

FreddoBaggyMac · 23/07/2010 20:41

OO great Midnight - tell her to hurry up with it please! It would make a fabulous TV series (there are just TOO many laughs in it for a film - people would do themselves an injury if they laughed that much in 90 minutes )

Oooh, that's exciting news Midnight! I work in a library and it was on our 'must-read' stand for a while because my boss loved it - everyone that borrowed it brought it back with a huge smile on their face.

midnightexpress · 23/07/2010 20:46

Aww that's nice. She'll be chuffed!

wilkos · 23/07/2010 20:47

very funny, loved it

seeker · 23/07/2010 20:47

Haven't read it - but she's the best thing on AIOTMA.

midnightexpress · 23/07/2010 20:48

Oh and btw she has written another book called 'How to bring up your parents'.

stepfordwife · 23/07/2010 20:49

oh yes, midnight, tell her it's FAB. made me laugh out loud, too. just loved the relationship with her parents and really captured the gloriously un-PC days of a 70s childhood.
can't wait for the follow-up.

midnightexpress · 23/07/2010 20:49

And she writes children's stuff too - look for Wilma Tenderfoot on Amazon.

I promise I'm not her agent. Or indeed, her.

stepfordwife · 23/07/2010 20:50

thanks midnight, will read that.

...hmm...are you sure emma midnight?

midnightexpress · 23/07/2010 20:52

Seeker, not on my part, honest. I'm an old lag.

FreddoBaggyMac · 23/07/2010 20:53

I can honestly say it's not marketing Seeker, you've had argements with me in the relig and spirituality thread and know I'm a good honest catholic mumsnetter .
It just really is a great book and I wanted to share the experience!

My dentist is a big fan of her children's books (for her children!) I'll have to check this one out. In fact my dentist constantly tells people what to read!

seeker · 23/07/2010 20:54

Well, if you are her, I want an introduction to Andrew Collins. I think he's sweet!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 23/07/2010 20:55

Thanks for mentioning her other books Midnight, I'll look out for them.

My parents did a lot of disastrous camping with my brother and sister in the 70s so I know my Mum would love it but haven't been able to persuade her to try it yet.

posey · 23/07/2010 20:55

I bought it ready to take on holiday as I was hoping to relive memories of my childhood camping holidays. My mum then came to visit and said sh'e found it really disappointing so glad to read these great reviews. It will be packed in the case in a weeks time...

midnightexpress · 23/07/2010 20:56

Gah, NO! NO! We were at school together, and I helped out with the book in a v v small way. But I have no idea who the OP is.

I'll put in a good word for you seeker.

FreddoBaggyMac · 23/07/2010 21:02

No I do not know midnight...don't be cynical we are not all authors in disguise ! Just have a look at the reviews on Amazon to see how good it is... I always put posts on here when i get all enthusiatic about the book I'm reading.
I will have a look at her other books Midnight - thanks. I got the impression that the bringing up your parents one might not be so good as 'The tent, the bucket and me' from the reviews but will prob give it a go anyway based on how much I love this one!

OP posts:
FreddoBaggyMac · 23/07/2010 21:03

Actually Midnight is the bucket referred to in the title and I am the tent

midnightexpress · 23/07/2010 21:06

No, I'm the ME, silly, MidnightExpress, see?
