April 2017 Online starters

Elsasalterego · 07/04/2017 11:10

Who's up for joining me? I'm back to weightwatchers online because it works for me but having tried the 5:2 I loved having the support of the mumsnet thread. I guess you get that support if you go to meetings but I miss it being online only and wondered if any other likeminded new starters were keen to join me on this journey?

I've got a BMI of 25.4 so I'm not massively overweight but I could do with getting it down - it's either go out and buy a whole new wardrobe because I don't fit what's in there now or I just have to lose the weight to fit what I have!I think I have a stone to lose and any more would be a bonus.

I'm off now to go for a jog / walk to get myself some fitness points. Who's in?

Maybe points and tracking is best to start. Helps with portion control. I would give it a try!

DarkDarkNight · 24/04/2017 22:46

HealthyMummyCat an ex colleague of mine has had a 4 stone loss and it has really inspired me. I have been trying on my own for a while but getting nowhere. I really need some structure and support I think. I've signed up for online and meetings.

Elsasalterego · 25/04/2017 08:36

Hi all! It's been few weeks for me now and I've had a 5lb loss in that time- which I am delighted with as its beenschool hols and I've found it really hard on picnics to avoid the kids sandwiches and Jaffa cakes and flapjacks etc. A godsend for me has been the lentil sprout mix in the salad counter. Been packing homemade salads and they have actually been filling (I never feel sated by a salad otherwise.

Re swapping you have to go into your settings and set the options. Picking to swap weeklies first then fitpoints is working best for me as then I can use some weeklies at the start of the week and then have a good weekend if I've gained lots of fitpoints

I joined last night. First day on plan today. Thank you everyone for you advice yesterday.
Count me in 😁

Elsasalterego · 28/04/2017 08:10

Well down mummy cat! Can't believe it's nearly been a full month now for me. Looking slimmer already and definitely feeling fitter. I thought it was a 5lb loss but I am getting ahead of myself- it's been 2kg and mymaths is rubbish so Google tells Me that's actually 4.4 lb but I'm still delighted with that for a month! Let's hope May will be he same.....

A bit late to the party, but it is still April Smile

I have lost 14lb in the last 5 weeks. I started off on SW, then swapped to WW just over a week ago as hubby prefers it and it is easier to be on the same plan. I am therefore very new to it all.

Cannot attend a group as the nearest one is 300 miles of ocean away. Have joined online.

Have 6 stone to lose, but taking it one at a time. This needs to be a change of lifestyle for life as I am approaching 50.

I have three young children, the youngest being 4, and he has only just this month started sleeping through.

I am doing SP. Had a quick look at No Count and was horrified to see how few points you get.

All advice and support appreciated Brew

BG2015 · 30/04/2017 09:43

I've joined online today! Only got a stone to lose but it needs to be gone. I have loads of lovely clothes that I can squeeze into but can't sit down or move in them. Can't refuse to buy any more.

I'm totally motivated!

TheOriginalAngel · 30/04/2017 16:48

Hello BG. Are you counting or no-counting?

BG2015 · 30/04/2017 17:34

I'm counting. Do we not get anything else for our money then? Just access to the app? We don't get any of the literature that people get at meetings?

TheOriginalAngel · 30/04/2017 17:53

As far as I see we just get the website and access to the app. I thought there would at least be a book about the plan included. I prefer to look at a book than struggle with a website on a mobile.
There is Connect but I cannot work it out, and a coach button but not sure what that entails. And recipes.

I cannot go to a meeting so a bit disappointed that we are just thrown in. Apparently you cannot eat fit points. Lots of little details like that and the blue dots would be helpful.

BG2015 · 30/04/2017 18:25

The Connect bit is confusing. It seems that it's just one big 'feed'. I'd prefer different folders e.g newbies, exercise, etc

Although each everyone on there is very supportive.

TheOriginalAngel · 30/04/2017 18:59

There are three choices of feed at the top, trending, new and following.

I have commented on a couple and cannot find them to see if anyone answered. Also it is telling me who to follow and I cannot seem to unfollow.

Searching for # is good though. I did #nocount to get answers.

Howaboutthisone · 02/05/2017 22:10

I joined on the 30th so can I join you please?I've signed up for online only but have ordered the shop and eat out guides on the WW shop as when I did this once before I found those really helped me with planning while the app was great for tracking.
I lost half a stone on WW when ds was 9 months but didn't stick to it as started trying for DD. My youngest is now nearly 4 and I'm at my heaviest ever. I also can't afford to go out and buy new clothes right now. Short term aim is to feel comfy in my clothes (and my own skin if I'm being honest). Longer term I'm aiming for around 3 stone and take it from there. Feeling more unhealthy than ever and want to get some energy back. I like how WW helps me retrain my brain with portion sizes etc.

Elsasalterego · 03/05/2017 00:10

Hi BG, Original Angel and Howabout, well done for joining! I' exactly one month in tomorrow so even though it isn't Monday weigh in day I'm planning on seeing what I have managed to lose in a calendar month (it's spurred me on to be good the last couple of days as well as I am getting a bit bored of eating dull food and have been starting to cheat a bit- I even ate a burger in McDonald's the other day and had a few too many drinks on Saturday night!).

Original angel it turns out you can eat your fit points- I was really frustrated that it didn't seem like you could so I contacted the help online and the person on the other end said you get to swap any you get after you go over what your target is- or my target is 33 so if I hit 50 in a week I am allowed to eat the extra 17. What's worthwhile doing is change your settings to swap your weekly points first and as they run out you automatically switch to fit points and are able to use those. If you do fitpoints first you have to wait until you have gone over your target so you don't get many points on Monday or Tuesday! . They said they don't really like people to swap fitpoints but if you want to then that is how. I only record extra fitness I do like exercise classes as opposed to tracking all the steps I do in a day as I feel like that would be cheating but it's up to you and depends how much exercise you do normallly - a walk round the park for one person may be no effort whatsoever but for another it may be real exertion.

I started on Sunday but have changed my weigh in days to Friday. Sneaky weigh in on the scales this morning has shown a 1 lb loss. Good going I think.

I've eaten really well and not felt hungry. And I've eaten the same foods I would eat normally (with a couple of tweaks) my name on connect is Louby1969 if you want to follow me!

TheOriginalAngel · 03/05/2017 19:40

Thank you Elsa. Very helpful. I will hopefully not need to use them, but handy to know I can if needed.

Howaboutthisone · 04/05/2017 22:37

I've been really good for three days now. I can feel my resolve slipping a little with the weekend upon us as I've got an unusually busy one with events and visitors. Have planned healthy meals for next week into my online shop but already know this weekend will be a tough one. AF due too and I turn into a chocolate monster around that time usually. Weird really as my usual diet nemesis is a large bag of crisps!

BG2015 · 05/05/2017 08:05

Official weigh in today and I've lost a 1lb! Pleased with that.

I'm out tonight for drinks with a friend. Need to steer clear of the wine and drink Bacardi - less points and less of a hangover too!

Elsasalterego · 06/05/2017 14:37

Good work BG! I'm holding out for weigh in Monday but I did have a cheeky weigh on Wednesday because it was exactly one month to the day since I started this and I wanted to find out what I'd managed to lose in that time. This time the scales really did say 3 kg (3.1 to be precise) which is 6.8lb- almost half a stone in a month!! Absolutely thrilled- no idea how I've managed to do it but have a strong suspicion it's to do with just cutting out the biscuit and cake consumption (and doing tons of exercise). Looks like I might fit in those summer clothes after all if I can do that again!

OP posts:
BG2015 · 06/05/2017 15:54

Elsa that's great, will look forward to hearing about your official weigh in. I ended up drinking 1 wine and 3 Bacardi's. Back on it today though now.

Elsasalterego · 09/05/2017 22:26

It was exactly the same three days later - so weird how it goes in fits and starts. I've been terrible the last couple of days though as had a huge report for work that had a deadline yesterday so I ended up eating a terrible cheesy pasta thing for dinner and half a pack of Oreos and doing no exercise for days. Deadline done now though so after a bit of a lazy day and slightly rubbish eating I managed to force myself do some exercise this evening and hopefully I'll have my mojo for getting back on the straight and narrow tomorrow. How is everyone else getting on?

sez49 · 10/05/2017 21:50

OriginalAngel, like you, this time is a lifestyle change for me. I will be 50 this year and have a nearly 7 year old. I have lost over 7st already (mostly pointing, but doing a few no count days) and still have a way to go. It seemed an impossible task at the beginning, so I do focus on one small goal at a time.i have come much further than I would have ever anticipated and stuck with it for the longest time ever. I am feeling so much better and fitter now, and know it can only get even better. I definitely am not returning to where I have been for the last 25 years!

I was about 6 months into the plan before I realised what the blue dots were about,

I really don't like Connect. I used to find the old forums much better.

The fitpoints earned do take your weight into account. I have to do lots more walking now, than when I started, to earn the same fitpoints.

twinmummy25 · 10/05/2017 21:59

The coach button on the app links you up to coach who can answer any questions you've got, it's great if you get stuck on something and it's 24/7 :-) I've used it a few times and it's really helped x

Chocolou · 11/05/2017 22:05

Can I join please? Just had my first weigh in and lost 3.5lb. It's good but I'm a bit disappointed. I haven't touched and weeklies at all. I've got probably 3 stone to lose. My friend who has cheated so badly this week lost 5.5. She has more to lose but can help but feel jealous.

sez49 · 12/05/2017 08:59

Chocolou that is a great start! How do you define cheated badly? if your friend has more to lose she probably has more points? It may be she was within her daily and weekly points? It may be she would have earned fitpoints (and used those) even if she wasn't tracking them. She may have not been as bad as she thinks she was. Or maybe she has got lucky because what she has done this week has been so much better than what she was doing before, so it resulted in a loss, even if she was over what she is 'allowed'. If it is the latter then she won't continue losing longer term, but may well have a good start.

I have always eaten my weeklies, as well as my daily points and have lost just over 7.stone. I would use your weeklies if you can. I find it easier to manage eating out or occasions if I can use my weeklies. I started using them on little treats, trying to spread them evenly over each day, but when I needed to, I cut back on the treats and saved most of the weeklies for eating out or an occasion. Makes it easier to manage longer term.

Even if your friend and you are on the exact same points and ate the same all week, the chances are you will both lose at different rates, so don't compare yourself to your friend. It is great you have got someone to go with and you can support each other, but everyone is different and will lose at different rates.
