First off, I know there's a dedicated area in big/slim/whatever but I'm after traffic as it's a bit quiet in the WW section. Second, I know that 5:2 and low carb are popular on MN but neither of them suit me whereas I've lost weight with WW in the fairly distant past and regained due to unrelated issues which I'll leave out for now. I'm sure there are plenty of opinions on why it doesn't work but for me it does.

Just wondering if anyone is thinking of signing up and would like a support thread over on the WW board. I have at least 4st to lose and would appreciate it. I can't go to meetings as they don't fit in with work, so will be doing it online (half price on the website at the moment and Top Cashback give a few quid back). Anyone in?

Gingerbreadman careful with beans on toast - can easily be into double points for lunch so I go for eggs on crumpets but that's the beauty of WW you can choose.

I only lost 0.5 this week, it's taking me FOREVER to do this time. - 9.5lbs off goal weight now, and just realised 4.5 off my "free" zone which I would love to be at by the time my subscription runs out on the 15th April in 3 weeks. Any tips on how to acheive that?

I am doing well with no chocolate, so that's something.

EditEcho · 28/03/2017 10:40

Miffy it gets much -slower close to goal, I know how frustrating it is. I'm well off goal now so happy to have lost 3lbs week one.

Getting into the swing of things now. Today had a half tub of low fat cottage cheese and an apple as a quick breakfast (as was weighing in at 745 before work!)- 3sp, lunch will be butternut squash and spinach soup with a little salad/chicken.

For dinner yesterday had a slow cooked chicken- made leftovers into the hairy bikers chicken jalfrezi with loads of vegetables- it's lovely and even using some oil comes out at 5sp so can have some rice too.

Gingerbreadmam · 28/03/2017 12:55

i did check beans on the app yesterday and got a shock! wow! i love tinned tomatoes and theyre 0 so will swap beans for those.

CiderwithBuda · 28/03/2017 14:57

Miffy - drink loads of water, up your protein and veg and move loads? Cut way back sugary foods and salty stuff. 4.5lbs to be 'free' is fab and a real incentive.

I didn't post all week but generally managed to do better this week with food. I don't have a massive sweet tooth so don't struggle there really. I do love a biscuit with a cup of tea after my lunch and sometimes in the evening. I bought light digestives at 2sps each and have one of them and I nibble it really slowly.

Had flu at the weekend so ate less and drank less than normal. Dh cooked a lovely steak on Saturday night and I had sweet potato fries instead of normal potatoes. Got about a quarter of the way into the meal and had to go to bed as I felt so rough. I ate fairly normally on Sunday but no snacks. Reasonable day yesterday.

Weigh in today and I lost FIVE pounds! Shock

Happy with that! I weighed at home on Friday and scales showed a big loss and I thought it couldn't be right so changed the battery in the scales. Still showed a big loss. Wasn't convinced. But I was wrong!

Definitely encouraging.

I haven't been on here for a while as thought there hadn't been any activity. Not sure why I am not getting my notifications, but glad I checked in anyway! Welcome to all the newbies here. After a few frustrating weeks, staying on plan and still tracking, losing, gaining, losing, gaining, and basically ending up with losing nothing after 4 weeks, I have lost the last couple of weeks, 2 and 6lbs. I am now over my 6 stone. Feeling very bloated today for WI tonight though. Whatever results I get on the scales I need to remember that I am feeling fitter and healthier than I have in more than 20 years. Still a long way to go, but taking it a stone at a time. Have started eating quite a few of my fitpoints the last couple of weeks, but increased my activity to try to compensate a bit!

CiderwithBuda · 28/03/2017 18:19

Wow. 6st is bloody amazing. Well done!

Miffytastic · 28/03/2017 18:54

Well done Cider and Sez!

Cider - good plan, yes that's what I'm thinking I'll do. Also going to try the 14/10 rule where you fast for 14hrs and eat in a 10hr window.

twinmummy25 · 28/03/2017 20:46

Well done ladies that's amazing on your weight losses! 6stone is fantastic!
Beans are a good option if you're on no count though especially for a weekend type breakfast of crumpets, beans, bacon and mushrooms yummy lol!
I've got my sugar free jelly in the fridge calling me now which is my saviour x

sez49 · 28/03/2017 20:56

Stayed the same tonight, which is better than a gain, but it is still frustrating to not get a loss on the scales when I am staying on plan, week after week, after week. I am going through the change, with cycles all over the place, so I really think that isn't helping!

Keep going Miffy. The last bit may be hard but you can do this!

twinmummy25 · 28/03/2017 21:23

sez49 so frustrating when that happens :-( how about trying something different this week for your breakfast to see if that makes any difference at all? Are you weighing everything to make sure those pesky smart points aren't creeping in somewhere? xx

sez49 · 28/03/2017 22:17

Thanks twinmummy. Yes I am weighing, measuring and tracking everything. I know from past experience that if I start to let things slide, it is downhill for me. I also had my warning on this last year when I started guessing my milk on my cereal after I thought I knew where it was in the bowl. Then I checked it and realised the amount was well over the 2sp I was counting, so I went back to measuring it! I have a pattern with a no change or gain around mid cycle so it may be down to that. I am trying to mix things up a bit as well. Hopefully it will be a better result over the next week or two.

dorothymichaels · 29/03/2017 11:13

I'm trying to stay off the scales but it's not easy. Any online members who only step on once a month? I get obsessed with it and try to persuade myself it's just a number. Feeling healthier and fitting into my clothes is a more important measure.

Today's eats:
B: sandwich thin with olive spread plus a grilled tomato and a poached egg (6)
L: Shepherdess pie from ancient ww cookbook (7)
D: lentil lasagne (10)

Currently snacking on a bag of popcorn with my morning cuppa (3)

I'm going to visit in-laws over Easter. They live in another country and don't speak English. Their diet is very bread based and as it's Easter there will be mini Easter eggs everywhere. There will be a big party and a buffet. Buffets are my nemesis. All tips welcomed!

twinmummy25 · 29/03/2017 11:45

I've got my fingers crossed for you sez49!

dorothymichaels the lentil lasagne sounds good, where did you get the recipe from for that? I get obsessed with the scales too, have you measured yourself since starting? That's a good way to see how you're getting on without using the scales, easier said than done though lol.
As far as a buffet goes it's just going to be trying to go for the better option like salad and veg bits, bulking it out with that and making your best guess at least if you've had some of the bread it'll balance it off a little bit and you won't have starved! x

dorothymichaels · 29/03/2017 12:00

twin mummy the recipe is from my head but I'll try and write it down. I pointed it using the website.

Chop and saute and onion and a grated carrot in spray oil for about 10mins until soft
Add 1 tin tomatoes, a good squirt of tom puree, some mixed herbs, 100g red lentils
Then fill tomato tin with water and add that, along with veg stock cube
Simmer until lentils are soft.

White sauce - basic white sauce recipe. I use all together 2oz butter, 2oz plain four, 1 pint milk. Whisk all together over a low heat until thick.
Add 100g cheddar (low fat might bring points down)

Layer lasagne, lentil sauce, white sauce - finish with white sauce. You can slice some tomatoes on top if you like. I used 12 lasagne slices.

Bake at about 190-200 degrees for 45mins until brown on top.
Serves 6 at 10SP each with salad or fresh veg.

dorothymichaels · 29/03/2017 15:03

Had to share this. Just pointed a lemon meringue pie recipe as having friends over this Sunday. 26 points a slice!!!! I'll not be making that then...

IggyStrop · 29/03/2017 15:37

@sez49 I also haven't lost anything this week (first week back on WW). :Last time I did WW I lost 4kg the first week so am disappointed.

But it helped to read this today. It explains the plateaus and is quite encouraging, if the science is right!

wintersdawn · 29/03/2017 15:56

I'm really struggling today, feeling sorry for myself having had three fillings at dentist and really wanting to comfort eat.

sez49 · 29/03/2017 19:14

Thanks twinmummy.

Thanks for the link IggyStrop. Interesting reading. As you say, if it is correct, makes me feel better! I am persevering as I know it works, and for me, WW is the only way I know I can realistically maintain these lifestyle changes to keep the weight off, once I get to where I want to be. I have been following the plan for 8.5 months now, which is, by far, the longest I have ever stuck to a 'diet'.

I don't think I usually lose as much in my first week as I did my very first time of joining, but I put that down to the first time, I changed from full fat milk and full fat spread/butter to reduced fat versions, cut out sugar, reduced amount of oil used with cooking, to name a few. these are habits that have remained with me throughout the years, even though other eating habits may have slipped. So when I have a 'new' first week, there are not as many things to change as I changed that very first time I joined.

wintersdawn - don't beat yourself up. i don't blame you for feeling sorry for yourself today!

sez49 · 29/03/2017 19:26

dorothymichaels - have a search for healthier lower point versions. I have had more success recently searching for SW recipes rather than WW ones. I then just work out the points in the app.

IggyStrop · 29/03/2017 19:40

That's kind of reassuring, @sez49. A bit dispiriting to not lose anything, but I'm telling myself it's due to imminent period.

I've also made a few changes along the lines you've mentioned, and I wonder how much MORE overweight I'd actually be if I hadn't. As I get older it's harder and harder to lose weight so new changes are needed. :(

sez49 · 29/03/2017 20:36

Stick with it IggyStrop. I always try to look at the loss over four weeks. It seems to even itself out over this time. I know it is hard not to be affected by the weekly result on the scales though. Imminent period due could definitely be affecting your result this week. Over time, you may well see a four weekly/monthly pattern appearing on the scales. Fingers crossed, you get a better result next week.

Yes I am finding it harder and harder as I get older, but also health concerns are more of an issue, the older I get, so need to stick with it this time. Yes I dread to imagine how how much worse my weight would had been had I not made some of those more permanent changes!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 29/03/2017 20:51

Shit week this week - I'm 29 points over ! Oh well , tomorrow is a whole new week

Gingerbreadmam · 29/03/2017 20:54

i keep looking at points and getting big shocks. its been about 2.5 years since i last followed the plan.

The weight watchers desserts used to to about 3points if i remember rightly and now theyre like 8 or 9? their frozen meals seem to be higher too. Its not too bad for me at min as i have loadsa points but think i might struggle when they reduce.

Day 3 today and i have been hungry and tempted Sad havent slipped though even popped out and bought some grapes a banana and some dreamys for the last of my points.

EditEcho · 29/03/2017 20:56

Well done Cider. Sez 6 stone is amazing. I agree with making changes to try kick start weight loss- could you up the exercise or try a week of nocount instead of smart points (or vice versa). Iggy sorry you didn't lose in week 1, but remember there's often a delay then a whoosh. I lost 3 stone myself last year, but a stone crept back hence my joining WW- but there was plenty times during the weight loss when I'd stay the same for ages and eventually lose a few pounds in a week. Periods make a big difference to me too- my WI next week co-insides with what is likely to be worst day of bloat so expect not to lose.

I've gone over a bit today, 34 points so have used 4 weeklies, although I was under yesterday. My Fitbit is very generous with activity points but I'll try not to use them I think!

Gingerbreadmam · 29/03/2017 21:16

echo how do you log your fitbit stuff?

i have been adding my steps to weight watchers app. I didnt see what fitpoints meant tho or whether you can do anything with them.
