@Ledochas it’s just a diet ‘blip’ not a full on fail. You’ll be cool tomorrow

I had an ok day. I ate a chicken breast for breakfast (high protein I guess but not very exciting), went out for a family lunch and ordered a salad and steak- it looked nice but there was no dressing on the salad and the steak was TINY, I was starving after finishing and everyone else ordered lovely desserts and I was a bit 😢… I didn’t actually want a pudding but I was still hungry. We were going back for cake so I nipped into Aldi and bought a load of raspberries, pineapple chunks and nectarines so that I had something to help me avoid the cake. So I successfully negotiated that which is good. Came home and ate a leftover potion of veggie curry and cauli rice. I still feel hungry though but I’ve spent all my calories.

I set out for a run this morning and immediately remembered that yesterday I’d had a real pain in my hamstring, within 100m it was hurting again so I turned round and came straight back. Shortest run ever! I did a bit of stretching and Foam rollering and will try again tomorrow. I must do a few gym classes this week, I pay £39 a month and so far I’ve done 1 class! Last weeks were all cancelled as PT had tonsillitis so this week I have booked a few in and will be determined to go.

food all planned for the week, I am collecting my shop tomorrow morning. I’m going to pre-prep a few things, I bought myself a bento box so I can do a lunchbox for my wfh days all calorie counted so I don’t graze (except for what’s in the box!). They’re also a chopped salad that I want to try with a dressing. So it’s all looking peachy for the week ahead.

Good morning everyone.

I hit the scales again for my usual Monday morning weigh-in and I've lost 3/4 of a pound making my weight now 10 stone 10 3/4. With my new-found positivity I am absolutely delighted. At one time it would be all doom and gloom losing so little, but now I'm heading towards my goal slowly, but surely and I'm very happy to have lost anything.

I hope everyone is doing okay and the scale gods are good to all of you. It's a very gloomy, rainy day here, so my positive mood might not last for too much longer.

Have a good day my lovelies.

I’ve gained. 95.2 this morning, up 400 grams. And I really don’t think it’s fair. I had the odd thing over, but generally was very well behaved.I will have to go over my record for the week, and see where the damage was done. Dh says I should weigh Sunday morning. We had a lovely dinner last night, but my portion was modest. I did also have a 99 in the park. I know bodies go up and down a bit, but I was anticipating 94. Something for a 2nd week. Anyway, I’m not slumping into a chocolate feast. I will be stricter this week. My 6 foot son said he weighed 90 kilos and needed to lose some weight, then asked me what I weighed. I’m afraid I lied and said 90 kilos too! I’m not a natural liar, I feel bothered by it, but I would never have heard the end of it if I told the truth. So now I really need to get to 90. My lovely Dh said it wasn’t really a lie, just rounding down!

poorpaws · 14/08/2023 10:58

@Zebracat it absolutely is just rounding down so think no more about it. It might just be the impetus you need to actually reach 90 very soon. Don't worry about the gain, you'll have cracked it by this time next week.

@Zebracat I was up a pound as well today, and like you I feel a bit cheated because I’ve been really good. I’m on day 9 now of no sugar, no bread, no dairy, no junk and no alcohol. Why, oh tell me why… why am I not skinny yet??????????!!

to cheer myself up I made a cooked breakfast in my air fryer and it was lovely

i need to stop weighing myself daily, it’s no good for my vibes

Zebracat · 14/08/2023 13:44

I need to buy an air fryer. A cooked breakfast would have helped today.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/08/2023 14:03

@Zebracat I am growing to like mine. I didn’t at first. The more I use it, the more I like it. Today I did boiled eggs, roasted tomatoes and mushrooms in it, dead easy and I didn’t even have to chop or slice anything. I just did a Pyrex dish full of cherry Toms with whole mushrooms on the top, after ten minutes I added the eggs around the sides (still in their shells) - ten minute later I had this:

You're right @thenewaveragebear1983 a blip.
Onwards etc

Sorry to hear of any gains and congrats on losses. The gains do sound small however so fingers crossed they quickly disappear.

I weigh Tuesdays to avoid the Monday after-weekend bloat. Cheating perhaps.

Big airfryer fan here. Use it for everything.

Theredjellybean · 14/08/2023 20:27

I get it...it's hard to have ups when you don't feel it's justified.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 15/08/2023 09:37

@thenewaveragebear1983 that breakfast is genius, I'm going to try that!

I weighed on Sunday and was 14.2, so a 3lb gain from hols, not too bad I suppose. Weighed again this morning as I felt thinner 😄 and 14.0!

I have been strict for the last couple of days - around 800cals worth of exercise and 1300 cals from food so I'm hoping to end the week on 13.13

I was reading another thread yesterday and someone mentioned fasting for a couple of days a week (not back to back I don't think) - has anyone here tried/had any success with that?

Theredjellybean · 15/08/2023 15:51

Do you mean fasting completely?
I don't thinks it great idea tbh...too restrictive..you likely setting yourself up to fail when you cave at 8pm absolutely starving and shove everything and anything in your mouth...
Fasting really works because over the whole week it helps you be in calories deficit.
So the 5:2 diet allowed for 500 calories on two days =1000 plus five days of careful health eating...which if you looked at the original book was about 1400 calories per day = 7000
So over the week you are 8000 calories which is under 1200 per day average...hence good weight loss.
If you can fast for two days completely then you would have more calories to eat on other days and still stay in deficit but seems easier to just have little less each day every day

triplecheeese · 15/08/2023 17:49

I've done 5:2 before pregnancy and breastfeeding but it messed with my exercise planning a bit. I was eating a lot more than 1400 on non fasting days because I was exercising a lot. It worked for me at about a lb a week (see @Theredjellybean has done the maths).

It feels a bit impractical for me these days and involves too much planning. Now the eating window (stop eating at X o clock) works better as it involves no thinking at all.

triplecheeese · 15/08/2023 17:50

I want to join the air fryer club but DH says we don't have enough space for another item. I'd have loads more space if I ditched the DH

Theredjellybean · 15/08/2023 17:59

@triplecheeese ..you don't have an air fryer problem you have a dh problem 😄as MN liked to say

triplecheeese · 15/08/2023 18:07

😂😂😂ill take two airfryers

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/08/2023 19:18

My dh won’t use the air fryer. He claims he doesn’t know how. He won’t let me show him. I joke with him that he likes to set fire to £5 notes and cook our food using that instead 😡 😂

Ledochas · 15/08/2023 20:30

@triplecheeese ditch all the other gadgets (or store them somewhere he won't find them). This is the one!

poorpaws · 15/08/2023 20:58

@triplecheeese I have two air fryers and I live alone 😊. I use one every day and have no idea how I lived without one in my previous life.

Im in bed early so I don't hit the granola bars.

I had another good day today, especially when Tuesdays are usually my crazy food day. I felt good as well, I didn’t feel frazzled after work and I didn’t come home and raid the kitchen. This is my 10th day sugar free, no bread/grains , no dairy and no alcohol.
I ran this morning and didn’t feel as sluggish and Also went to the gym straight after work and while I was tired, I still did it and it was a good workout.

food today was: some cold new potatoes and a banana and a boiled egg (I know, awful breakfast 🤦‍♀️); lunch was salad, Boiled eggs, mayo, new pots and a kids little box of raisins. Apple on my way home. Dinner was chilli, and peas (no rice). After dinner I whizzed up some frozen fruit and a slug of coconut milk to make a little kulfi type frozen dessert, I can highly recommend if you like ice cream or sorbet but don’t want the sugar. I used frozen tropical fruit. It does still have fruit sugar in but none of the other stuff.

annoyingly despite all this excellent eating over the last 10 days I haven’t actually lost any weight and so that’s getting me a bit miffed so I’m going to hide the scales because they are getting me down. I feel so much better, no brain fog, more energy and sleeping better so I need to keep reminding myself that is as important as weight loss.

Zebracat · 15/08/2023 21:46

@thenewaveragebear1983 that does seem very unfair. I’m doing ok , but I had a mini magnum today and a small glass of wine, so I can see why it’s not happening for me. Need to stop eating crap.

poorpaws · 16/08/2023 08:17

I'm just reaching for my halo. I was up at 6:30 this morning and did a 55 minute exercise routine. Then showered and breakfast and I'm just about to put washing on the line. Dog walk planned later, but a shorter. I think I might deserve a sit down in the garden this afternoon.

I hope everyone is doing well this week. It's a lovely sunny day so my mood is much brighter. Keep on doing your best everyone.

Well done @poorpaws you hero!

I had an air fryer about 5 years ago and let my sister borrow it. By the time I asked for it back my mum had been round and decluttered her kitchen and thrown it in the bin! 😳 I'm refusing to buy another out of principle but it did really good chicken legs.

I've had a rough couple of days sleep wise with the youngest DC which is impacting my food choices pretty badly. I just want a sugar fix to keep me going. Last night was better though so hopefully I'll be better today.

Decorating is nearly finished so the house can go back to normal just in time for us to go on holiday for a week!

Ledochas · 16/08/2023 10:03

Morning everyone, I had to disregard yesterdays weigh in because after my wine blip the night before the scales were too kind (like my gin episode... dehydration). This mornings number looks more realistic so taking that for this week.

Weighed in at 161.2lb, down 3lb since last week and 13lb in 5 weeks.
BMI is now showing as overweight... 29.5. Nice to pass that BMI milestone.
Next aim is the 150s which are tantalisingly close.

A stone away from current target now, doesn't feel too crazy although it felt impossible 5 weeks ago. I have two weeks of guests in the house however so it's going to be a trickier path this next fortnight.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/08/2023 17:22

I’ve had a really nice day today, I took a days annual leave and the kids and I have just pottered about and had a chilled day. We went for unlimited breakfast at the beefeater (which is excellent value - heads up anyone with 2 dc, as adults pay £9.99 and 2 kids eat free)- I had egg, bacon, toms and mushrooms, and coffee, then fruit. Kids had pain au chocolate, pancakes, croissants and juice, and a cooked breakfast 😱
lunch I had leftover chilli from yesterday. Dinner will be pulled pork that I have had in the slow cooker all day, and I’ve added lentils , onions and porcini mushrooms to the broth to make a sauce.
went for a walk with littlest ds to the park, then had a snooze in the sun in my hammock.
I’m on day 11 of my 30 days and I feel really good.

poorpaws · 17/08/2023 08:08

I just need to adjust my halo, no it's definitely not slipping.

Up at 6.30 again and exercises for 55 mins. I wish I could keep this up. Made dp a blackberry and apple crumble yesterday and one for me but I put mine straight into the freezer and he ate all of his in one go.

The scales don't seem to be moving but I can't do much more to help them. I make sure I do 13,000 steps a day and eat sensibly. I'm not sure what else I can do. Perhaps they'll have gone down by Monday, I'd like at least 1 lb off for my efforts.

I hope you are all doing well and we'll see some good results next week.
