@effiesgoldwig i feel the same, I often feel exhausted by food. I think because I just have such a lifelong poor relationship with food and eating, I think about it all the time, then combined with actually planning for, purchasing, cooking, saving leftovers, counting Macros, and now with cost of living actually paying for…. It’s exhausting. By the time I come to actually eat I’m so fatigued by the whole process I don’t even care.
I do enjoy cooking, and I love eating fresh, healthy, simple food as well so I’m lucky in that respect, but sometimes I can’t compute the two in my head. Yesterday, case in point, my lunch was slices of ham wrapped round cheese with not a vegetable in sight. 🤦‍♀️

I love a fruit salad, really good way to get some apples and pears used up alongside ‘luxury fruit’. I like to do the same with salad, make a chopped salad of cucumber, onion, pepper, etc chopped really small with a dressing to just add to a plate of lettuce and add tomatoes etc. Cauliflower roasted in Indian spices with raisins and flaked almonds is also delicious.

it’s my office day today so I’ve got chicken thigh chopped up with cauliflower rice and light sweet chilli, some tomatoes, some wafer crackers and Phili cheese, and I will take a scoop of my protein powder dry in my mixer to have with water mid afternoon. I get so hungry and frazzled at the office so I hope that will keep me going and avoid the ‘get home crash’ . Just gearing myself up to head out for a short run in the morning sunshine.

have a lovely day!

Vebrithien · 16/05/2023 06:58

Good morning!

Have decided that, for now, Tuesday will be my weigh in day.

1 week on 16:8 for the week days
Weekends, trying to be sensible
2 weeks of couch 2 5K nearly completed

Start weight 100kg
Weight today 98kg
Loss this week 2kg (4.4lb)

Pleased with that!

I have beans on toast planned for lunch, a piece of fruit, and then vegetable stir-fry for dinner.

Have a lovely day!

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 16/05/2023 07:00

Newbie here 😊 Been overweight for over 7 years now, menopause and a good relationship I think.

I joined WW a few weeks ago (tried everything), lost a few lbs initially and have plateaued again for the last 5 days. I've stuck to it religiously but starting to lose motivation again.

It's just so exhausting. I've got an appointment with the nurse today so might have a chat with her

poorpaws · 16/05/2023 08:00

@TalkToTheHand123 I always use my iPad. I have an iPhone but much prefer my iPad.

Very well done on the cake, I don't think I could do that, cake is one of my big problem areas especially homemade.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I hear what you say about food being exhausting, I think about it constantly too. I think I am very lucky (others would disagree) that I live alone so apart from making DP lunch, I can eat what I fancy and don't have to consider anyone else.

The price of food though 🙈. Yesterday I went to Aldi (£130) and Asda (£41). Admittedly these were big shops for me but it was just ordinary fresh healthy food like fruit, salad, stir fry ingredients, nothing extravagant and no alcohol. I think I am still in shock.

@Vebrithien. Absolutely brilliant, blimey you have done so well. I intend to catch you up this week.

@BanditsOnTheHorizon. Welcome, lovely to have you here.

I think yesterday I had a perfect day diet wise. I went to two supermarkets, did a long dog walk, and my exercises. Food was healthy and because I'd been so busy I didn't sit down until about 7.30 and went to bed before 9.30 so little time to snack. Perfect, if only every day could be like this.

I'm really struggling to find jeans to fit me. I'm 5 ft 4 or just under and I keep wasting money on jeans and putting them to the back of the drawer. I did it again today with M&S extra short straight leg ones. Short length (29 ins) is too long, extra short (27 ins) is just a bit too short.
Has anyone got any ideas? Not skinny ones, I really look awful in those but straight leg or bootcut.

Another busy day planned today. We're off to a large plant retailer (not exactly a garden centre but similar and much bigger) and I have a long list! Later dog walk planned and I'm still trying to find time for these exercises because although they aren't difficult, I think they are at least bringing my fat in a bit 🙄 (this is the fat I should have lost by now).

Have a good day everyone and as I always say, keep trying.

That turned into an essay, sorry it was so long, I do ramble on a bit 😳

@poorpaws. I've started to wear bootcut jeggins, I bought a pair of regular NEXT ones that are perfect with a small block heel. I think Yours are doing them now. Really flattering. I'm 5'3"

Oysterbabe · 16/05/2023 12:30

Happy Monday everyone.

I'm a bit disappointed with myself for yesterday. I had plans for food and activities for the day but it all went out of the window because my son was unwell and didn't go to school. My work at the allotment was scrapped, I didn't make the salad I'd planned for lunch. Probably ended the day at maintenance calorie level or thereabouts. Oh well, we keep trying.

In the office today and have cycled in and brought my salad. I try to make it exciting with a nice cheese and something picked. Today gorganzola, pickled beetroot and loads of veg. I'm going to have chili and rice later. I made the chili with half meat, half lentils.

I hope you all have a good day!

SquirrelSoShiny · 16/05/2023 12:40

Thanks for the welcome 😊 I'm trying to get my head in the game!

Have any of you tried Ozempic or Saxenda? I really recognise that obsession with food - the thinking about it etc. It's a pain!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2023 18:34

Not too terrible a day for me considering it was my office day which often descends into chaos. I’ll end up on around 1250 cals, assuming I stick to my plan of seasoned pork steaks and salad for dinner. I had a nice lunch of cauliflower rice and chicken and sweet chilli (same as my dinner last night!) and protein yoghurt, a protein shake this morning and a few bits of fruit. I seem to have had quite a lot for my calories today. I ran this morning, it was beautiful in the crisp morning sunshine.

tomorrow, run again if I can, need to sort my food out as I’ve run out of lettuce and all the meat is in the freezer. I also, rather inconveniently have to make 75 cupcakes for the PTA fair, I always do them and I like to help them, but that does mean that weds and Thursday will be full of temptation until I hand them all over on Friday morning

effiesgoldwig · 16/05/2023 22:05

Great to see it so busy on here. And some fab ideas of things to make to eat thank you @thenewaveragebear1983

I had a good day today right up until the very end when I was doing a food shop and I went past the "whoops" aisle and the only thing that was left was a bag of doughnuts for 24p.

24p for 5 doughnuts! That's not even 5p each. So obviously I had to buy them. Doh. 6 apples however - £2.40 (because I'm a fusspot and only like pink ladies but still! The difference in cost is stark) is it any wonder we struggle to lose weight?

Fresh start again tomorrow. Another good day planned. We can do this.

effiesgoldwig · 16/05/2023 22:06

@thenewaveragebear1983 I meant the roasted cauliflower and things, not the cupcakes - although I bet they're good too!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2023 22:18

@effiesgoldwig so I also went to Asda to buy lettuce , (genuinely, lettuce) and I ended up buying, and eating, a 10p tiger baton while my healthy dinner was cooking. Ffs 🤦‍♀️

effiesgoldwig · 16/05/2023 22:30

I think we might actually just be the same person @thenewaveragebear1983 😂 I'm just a year older (1982)

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/05/2023 00:03

Thank you to everyone for the lovely and very kind birthday wishes Smile they definitely cheered me up!!

@PinkArt I've been looking at a mini trampoline as a present for myself, DTS1 would use it too - it comes with exercise DVD and special socks! - but is £50 second hand at the moment, which I can't really justify. That's the other irritating thing about no present from MIL, if she'd given me £20 or so I could have found the other £20ish, but £50 just seems so much money Shock

@thenewaveragebear1983 I have no idea what DP was planning to eat, given the many, many restrictions he put on the ingredients he wanted! I'd suggest a stir fry, but of course it would have to be plain veg to meet his requirements... I certainly know what you mean about being 'exhausted by food', definitely struck a chord with me. Between DP's hissy fits about his food choices, DTS1 just being incredibly fussy/ restrictive, and DTS2 being happy to try stuff but not things that anyone else wants to eat - it's a nightmare, frankly. It's a wonder I don't just live off toast and cereal really, I don't have the mental energy to think of what I'd like to eat, let alone shop and cook for it!

@Theredjellybean I hope your DSD is enjoying some time at home? It sounds like it's been a tough time for all of you Flowers

@poorpaws food shopping is just so expensive now! I tend to go to either Aldi or Lidl which you'd think would be cheap(er), but it's still easy to spend over £100. We don't have a market in our town either so no cheap fruit & veg that way. Is your DP still trying to follow a healthier diet? When I get chance (ie: probably when the DC have left home!), I'd love to do a nutrition course like this The science of nutrition and healthy eating - OpenLearn - Open University one, it looks really interesting. I've given up finding clothes that fit properly for now but am buying bits via Vinted instead, if they're not exactly what I wanted then at least I haven't spent too much money...

Well everyone, I am very chuffed as tonight I went out!! To a running group!!! Admittedly it was a beginners C25K course and I was very slow Grin but I'm just encouraged that I actually went (it took some courage) and everyone was very nice. My social anxiety did ramp up a bit BUT I met some great people, it was very motivating (and cheap!) and as and when I can actually run a bit, will be good to go to other events. DP had a massive mood because he had to come home and look after the DC for once and not go to the gym, but he's been whenever he wanted for as long as he wanted since January, I'm only asking for one night a week. I'm actually still quite buzzing that I actually went!

The science of nutrition and healthy eating

This free course, The science of nutrition and healthy eating, looks at the science behind nutrition, covering aspects of biology, chemistry and physics as well as giving some insight into ...

Well done Clara , I'm glad you enjoyed your running club. Do you have a local park run?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/05/2023 08:09

Well done @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl , I’m glad you enjoyed running! Honestly, starting to run is the single most significant positive thing I have ever done in my life. I bought myself a treadmill on a whim when I was 3 stone overweight, miserable, PND, stuck at home with ds who was a cheerful but very demanding toddler who didn’t sleep….. and I was a secret smoker as well because I was just so depressed. I hated it but something just made me continue getting on for 10 minutes a day and suddenly one day I was a runner! Greatest thing I ever did and totally transformed my life and my lifestyle. I think as well with your DP you need to set your stall out early doors. Not in an aggressive way but just in a fairness way- dh and I both run and I go to the gym as well, we have 2 dc one of which is too young to leave alone, and various kids football commitments over a week and we really do plan it into the calendar each week so we both get our workouts in. You’ve possibly noticed that I get up super early to go to the gym, or run early, to fit it in. But it’s totally possible for you both to do your sports and it benefits you both and your family. Good luck and well done 👏

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 17/05/2023 10:08

I've had the usually few lb weight loss in the first week but now I'm levelling out again. I find it so frustrating that unless I stick to a hard and fast 1400 calories a day I put on weight that won't come back off. If I do stick to it, I'm lucky if it's 1/2 lb a week, but it's usually only 1 or 2 a month. Menopause sucks

I had my bloods done the other day as part of my MOT, there was nothing untoward on this to explain what's going on with my weight. The nurse just said it's age related

This is the issue I always have. It just takes so long to make any real progress and it's so unforgiving. I need to be on it and any slip up is punished. It feels so hard and relentless.
So I might lose a few lbs but I'm going on holiday in 2 weeks and unless I don't drink and massively restrict then straight back on they'll go.
I've done low carb, high protein and it doesn't make any difference. I have to choose between being fat or being hungry, no middle ground works for me any more.

Zebracat · 17/05/2023 12:16

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl . I think you need to be a lot more demanding. And point out the unfairness every time. I also think that £50.00 is not very much at all as an only present. I know it’s relative, but I distinctly remember that in 1983 I was a single parent living on benefits and for my birthday I bought myself a leather jacket for £50.00, and wore it for years. Perspective , Clara!

effiesgoldwig · 17/05/2023 17:40

Another pound off here - took 11 days but it's still going the right way again at least. 99.2kg now. I want to lose another 9 pounds by my birthday in 10 weeks time which would put me under 15 stone. It's going to take a lot of self control to get there though.

Had sausage scrambled eggs and beans for tea. 724 calories but it was delicious. Makes up for the boring soup at lunch. Will aim for something healthier tomorrow although I reckon aside from the sausages that wasn't tooooo bad.

Oysterbabe · 18/05/2023 07:44

Well done effiesgoldwig keep chipping away. Sausage, scrambled egg and beans sounds like a brilliant tea to me. We had sausage, mash and peas. Comfort food and not too bad. I buy chicken sausages from Tesco and they're actually really tasty, substantial and only 100 calories each.

WFH today, which I always find a bit harder. I've made my lunch in advance and have to pop out at lunch anyway so hopefully will stay on track. I just need to get through the morning without snacking on anything.
Luckily I have a couple of Zoom meetings.

poorpaws · 18/05/2023 07:51

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl yes DP is still healthy eating and he's very good at it, lots of self control (unlike me). We were out for the day yesterday and he went for the most healthy meal on the menu. I took crisps for later in the day but he didn't touch them. When he decides to do anything he does it well and as I've said many times here, he weighs less than me and I think he'll shrink down more.

I'm having a day at home today, it's been a hectic week for me and I'm hopefully going to enjoy a lazy day today. Unless I make something in my air fryer oven. I've hardly used it yet and I'm excited to try it more.

Tomorrow I am out with daughter clothes shopping, that will probably be disappointing for me as I never seem able to find anything I'm really happy with.

Have a good day everyone.

Finally another lb off this week. I've got a weekend away with my old friends (3 nights), who all like a good eat and drink so I'll be back in this thread Tuesday for some motivation. I always find it hard to start again after a weekend away or holiday.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 18/05/2023 07:56

@poorpaws I went and tried on a few things yesterday in next, had mirrors front and back and came out horrified I look like I do. Bra strap straining, spare tyres where there shouldn't be any. I bought a white T-shirt in the end as I figured I might as well save my money as I looked so shit - so silver lining, kind of Blush

Oysterbabe · 19/05/2023 06:06

Well done BanditsOnTheHorizon , enjoy your weekend away.

I had a similar experience with some summer dresses I ordered online recently, I could just looked awful in all of them. I know the issue is I hate my body not the dresses.

2.2lbs off for me this week. I'm pleased because the weekend wasn't great.
