@Ledochas yeah you're absolutely right.
It's just so disheartening. First week of big changes you don't expect to see the scales go up 😢
I've literally been at a standstill all week.
Feeling so annoyed at my body today.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/08/2023 08:29

@midnightblue12 if you’ve changed your diet so you’re eating more fibre (eg loads of veg) then you could be retaining water at first? Half a pound is equal weight to a glass of water- we can easily retain this, and more, at various times of the month (or even the day 🤦‍♀️). Keep going, your body will reward you for eating lovely healthy nourishing food. If you are weighing on your home scales then they might give a different weight to your group scales as well, so I’d wait til weigh in at group before hitting self destruct.

I ate sooooooo much yesterday. I’m on day 6 of my whole30 detox today, yesterday I was climbing the walls- not hungry at all, but just craving that little dopamine ‘hit’ from junky food and sugar. Every time I sat at my laptop I thought, I’ll just get something to eat first! Couldn’t concentrate, couldn’t focus. In the end I ate a LOT of dried fruit and nuts - and I mean a LOT (I went to Lidl earlier in the week and they do really good nuts, dried fruit, fruit snack winder things, raw bars that have no preservatives or nasties in). That kind of food does not fill you up though and I didn’t really plan my meals properly so I ended up grazing all day.

I’m going to be better organised today. Proper breakfast, lunch, dinner and no snacks. Dh will be drinking tonight and I am determined that I will NOT.

Hi all. At 14.7 stone today (same weight for the last couple of months), day before two weeks all inclusive drinking and eating, what could possibly go wrong? 🤔😯😂

effiesgoldwig · 11/08/2023 18:21

Well that week ended deliciously. But not brilliant for the diet.

We have a wood fired pizza van that parks up in random pub car parks 4 nights a week and today it was so close to home as I was passing... and it smelt so good... and it's supporting local businesses - my pizza will go towards someone's mortgage or Christmas present or weekly shop... really it would be rude not to... although maybe one each was a little greedy 😳

effiesgoldwig · 11/08/2023 18:22

Probably could have lived without the freddo after though...

Allhailkingcharlie · 11/08/2023 19:19

Need to join. I've put on over half a stone since April. Not sure what's going wrong really. My diet hasn't changed apart from having different butter. I've cut out bread, which I used to have a lot of butter on. Been eating more fruit and I've actually ended up putting on weight. Maybe I need to increase the exercise

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/08/2023 19:39

@effiesgoldwig its very important to support local businesses any way you can

@Allhailkingcharlie hi, welcome to the group!

it’s been a good day today for me, I feel a lot less detox-ish and no afternoon slump or fuzzy head. I started the day with chia seeds in coconut milk with fruit, then lunch I did some chicken breasts abc new potatoes with slices of lemon in the air fryer, that was really light and tasty with salad. Dinner, dh bbq’d (only the 2nd time this year, such has the weather been shite) so I had a nice rib eye, salad, a couple of new potatoes and some salad. I’ve had grapes, a banana, and a raw nut bar, plus a few prunes as snacks during the day. No idea of calories as I’m not tracking, but I ate when I was hungry and stopped when I was full ( 😱 like a skinny person!) and I’m not drinking alcohol tonight so…. Win for me I think! I ran this morning as well although my legs were like stone and I was super slow.

the weekend could be interesting. We don’t have a lot of food in, but i do have loads of eggs, so i guess eggs for breakfast…. Out for lunch on Sunday I have pre-selected and ordered a salad and steak. As long as I can actually keep on track I have nothing to get in my way.

Nothing whatsoever! Enjoy your holiday, and make the most of the all inclusive 😋☀️

Zebracat · 12/08/2023 05:44

I absolutely agree. We really should think about changing the thread name because are we on a diet as such? I think we are beyond the idea that we endure deprivation, reach our dream weight and then revert to our old ways that got us there in the first place. So if we are trying to find a way of eating that enables us to be at a healthy weight for us, then we need to also allow that there will be holidays and feast days where we eat differently. I am realising that I feel bette4 if I enjoy food and drink in moderation. Enjoy your holiday, @TalkToTheHand123

poorpaws · 12/08/2023 08:11

I totally agree and even if we lose tiny amounts of weight, no matter how small that may be, it should be celebrated. I'm saying that because that is exactly what I'm doing atm but I still feel I'm chipping away at the lbs,

Morning all...I have braved the scales after falling of whatever the wagon now is...
Literally binged yesterday... didn't even enjoy it...
Anyway 72.5 today....
So I have precisely three weeks until holidays when I want to be 70kg...a big ask but it will be possible if I don't drink, eat within calories and keep to exercise schedule.
Some gentle nudging would be appreciated!

Ledochas · 12/08/2023 09:11

@Theredjellybean where's your holiday to?

What's 2.5kg in old money, 5-6lbs? I would love that off in 3 weeks as I have an event then. I'll nudge you along and try to get there too

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/08/2023 11:35

I weighed in at 157.1, what’s that? 11.3? So 4lbs off this week. I’m really pleased with that, I’m not down to pre-holiday weight but I’ve eaten so well and I feel so much better.
this week ahead I’m sticking with my strict rules, my appetite is much calmer now and this week I’m going to really try to keep my calories in check a bit. But considering I didn’t count at all last week I am pleased with that loss,

I didn’t have any palpitations yesterday which I cannot remember the last time that happened, and feel less breathy as well (2 Perimenopause symptoms that particularly bother me). I’ve slept better too. So all good 👍

Theredjellybean · 12/08/2023 14:56

2.5 kgs is 5.5 lbs , so 1.8 lbs per week.
Definitely doable
Holiday is sailing in Greece...with dds and dsd and dp...
While I'm.not jealous of my dds, I look with wistfullness at their youthful lithe firm bodies and rale against my menopausal flob ..
Dsd...is obese but even her youthful obese looks somehow better than my aging rolls....life is harsh on the menopausal woman !

triplecheeese · 12/08/2023 18:07

Well done @thenewaveragebear1983 - your sugar free life is really inspiring me and you make it sound easy (I know for a fact it is not!) and rewarding (which it is!). No discernable movement on the scales for me, but I'm struggling with my workouts. I stopped breastfeeding my toddler just over 2 months ago so am now starting to feel my hormones changing and whew I am tired. I dragged myself round parkrun today, legs were like lead, and im aching all the time from weightlifting.

I love the title "Diet Failed Again?" - it really makes me laugh because we've all "failed" at "diets" and really what we're all doing here is helping each other to make lifestyle changes that work. It's like exercise - the one that's best for your body is the one you'll do.

I've wittered on about this here before but I used to love watching all those old Noughties diet programmes - supersize v superskinny, biggest loser etc. And I only realised recently that they're horrible in the way they talk about bodies, food and drawing some sort of false moral equivalence between what you eat and who you are. I hope we're kinder to ourselves and each other now.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone. It's pulled pork & corn cobs in front of the NFL tonight then gym in the morning!

KBO you fabulous lot

Ledochas · 12/08/2023 20:24

Okay @Theredjellybean I'm targeting at least 1.8lb off by next Sat. Sailing in Greece sounds mega! You're right, you can do this. A great motivator.

Ledochas · 12/08/2023 20:25

PS @triplecheeese I loved those shows. Are there any respectable modern day equivalents?!

triplecheeese · 12/08/2023 20:31

@Ledochas there was a wild one where two Scottish trainers worked with someone who wanted to lose weight over 12 weeks and they had to wear a padded body suit under their clothes so their friends & family wouldn't know 😂 then at the end there was a big public reveal where they unzip the padded suit revealing their slim body 😂😂😂😂 as a lover of crap diet shows it was right up my street

triplecheeese · 12/08/2023 20:33

It was called Secret Body I think, on iPlayer. Loved every rubbish minute

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/08/2023 20:48

I used to like secret eaters with Anna Richardson. And you are what you eat, with the dreaded Gillian Mckeith. Weird because (ok her poo obsession was a bit odd) actually her diet was the healthiest, she never talked about calories, she offered a varied diet of abundance - and yet everyone hated her. There was a recent series of YAWYE recently with Trisha Goddard which was also good. Gillian was quite cruel to her subjects though, she certainly dealt in tough love.
there was also one called Fat Families which was god awful but quite addictive to watch. The presenter referred to the subjects as “massive fatties” which was ok because he used to be overweight so it’s not offensive, yeah 🙄

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/08/2023 20:49

Plus also, sorry (not sorry) but dh is out tonight so I am definitely going to be looking at secret body on I played, just for research purposes of course

Ledochas · 12/08/2023 21:50

@thenewaveragebear1983 me too. @triplecheeese that sounds just perfect

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 12/08/2023 22:57

Loved all those programmes

Haven't seen secret body but it sounds fab so will definitely give that a go!

Did anyone else see a weird show with a strict Russian lady running a sort of hotel for overweight people - like a boot camp type thing? They only made one show I think but I really liked it

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/08/2023 08:34

I was thinking about those weight loss programmes last night… they were so popular weren’t they, but actually they were awful. I remember watching supersize vs super skinny and thinking that given the choice, I would take super skinny (and unhealthy) rather than anything else. I’ve always had a very warped 90s/early 2000’s “heroin chic” View of being an attractive weight, which is not only unhealthy but desperately unachievable. No wonder really when you consider these programmes. They were prime time watching and therefore must have been representative of popular culture and mainstream views. Awful really.

Ledochas · 13/08/2023 17:55

I'm having a diet fail today. The two children have driven me crazy and I've done four loads of washing (children linked). So I cracked open the wine at 5 😬
