Hi all. Found goggles, yay! Had a good swim and not too much of a faff on. Agree the treadmill isn't the easiest to get motivated for!

Icandothis1970 · 27/06/2023 16:48

Thank you @poorpaws 😊
To deal with the evening snacking habit, have you tried allocating X amount of calories to this and keeping a cupboard or box with items in so you can pick 1 or 2 up to the calorie level you've allocated?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/06/2023 19:38

Oh the evening snacking is the worst! I tend to snack on fruit but then it can still add quite a lot of calories and sugar on top of your food for the day! No tips really except to just close the kitchen. For me it’s usually boredom, or exhaustion and the need to comply with ‘appropriate’ bedtimes that drives it for me- I stay up 2 hours I don’t want to, eating food I don’t want to, and then go to bed at 10 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had another good day today. 1575 cals, 97g carbs (more than I was aiming for to be honest)- but I’m happy with that. I can’t remember the last time I did 3 consecutive good days so I’m feeling positive. my food has been yoghurt, berries and chia; chilli and salad, and then for dinner I had a tuna salad and an avocado. I’ve had a few bits of fruit which is what’s bumped the carbs up, and a packet of lentil Properchips after work. I went to the gym, and walked 4km after work.

Tomorrow my plan is to get my carbs right back down under 60g, and keep my calories on plan too. I guess I’m detoxing off carbs a bit today, I have a bit of a headache and I feel hungrier today too.

poorpaws · 27/06/2023 20:03

Just reporting in the say I'm doing better tonight. It definitely is boredom with me but I've had two separate visitors tonight both staying about an hour and a half so my evening has flown by and as you all know I go to bed early with my iPad so I'll have a small bowl of Shreddies (allowed and not as sweet as the crunchy nut cornflakes I used to have) before I go.

I'm also not weighing! I weigh far too often and as I explained earlier once I'm in the 10 sts I mess up. I could already be back into the 11sts after last night, I don't know and I'm not going to find out.

One other thing I was pleased about today. I am a people pleaser, don't get many visitors but people just pop in and nearly always during my evening meal, gawd it happens a lot! Anyway my sis-in-law texted to say was I in at 2 as she was coming over. I sent a message back saying I was just having a light lunch and wanted to get my exercises done so could she call later. I knew I wouldn't want to do them once she'd left and I really wanted to prioritise them after last nights fail. So, so unlike me but she didn't mind and I felt good for being a bit more assertive. Exercises done. 💪

Can I ask if any of you have tried Noom before? I've just started a 2 week trial after a questionnaire popped up on Insta. The approach seems sensible - building better habits rather than a diet, but I can see it would be easy to get obsessed with 'calories remaining for the day' counter.
I'm going to set my July mini goal as getting as close back down to 17 stone as possible. Might be pushing too far in a month but I'm off to a good headstart this week.

Zebracat · 27/06/2023 21:55

Brilliant. Well done poorpaws. . I’ve eaten 2000 calories today, but I’ve also been nonstop active, so it may be ok.
I have to weigh every day, if I don’t, I go back to uncontrolled gluttony.
Ddog was a pita last night, so trying to decide whether to persist with him downstairs or cave and let him in the bedroom. He’s got poodle fur so I’m surprised that he smells of dog, the poodle didn’t at all, but this one does, although he’s clean. So I m not keen on having a smelly bedroom.

Vebrithien · 28/06/2023 07:23

Morning all.

It's bee so lovely to hear your stories (@Zebracat glad you've got your new dog). I read along most days, although I don't post usually.

This week, I've focused a bit more on my mental health, rather than just on the calories I'm taking in. Have tried 4 new recipes, of which 3 are keepers.

I've just run 3.5km, can't believe I only have a week left of couch 2 5k. Just sat down with a cup of (black) coffee and nearly nodded off!

Weigh in today at 91.5kg.

So, only 300g off this week, but it's my TOTM, so not so surprising.

My aim, for the end of July, is to get down into the 80's. Ideally, by the middle of August, I'd like to be 88kg, as that would put me into the 13 stone category.

Just off to to my measurements, but I'll lose my typing if I leave the page ..

Vebrithien · 28/06/2023 07:36

Righto, tape measure found ✔
Previous measurements found ✔

B 43.5 (-1.5)
W 39 (-2)
H 47 (0)

Pleased to have lost 2 inches from my waist. 39 inches puts me just under 100cm, which is better.

I last measured at the end of May.

Doesn't surprise me to have not lost anything on my hips, as my actual pelvis is pretty wide, but glad to be losing some of the fat that was bulging above my waistband.

Ledochas · 28/06/2023 07:43

Well done on the inch loss @Vebrithien - you must be really pleased. Note to self to dig out a tape measure...

Any hacks for getting the scales to move? Mine have been stuck between 170.6 and 172.6 since 7 June. Even when I think I have a good day and must see some downward movement they just stay the same. Desperate to get out of the 170s. So close yet so far.

Zebracat · 28/06/2023 07:55

@PinkArt . Not tried Noom, but would love to hear your thoughts.
@Ledochas my best tip on getting the scales to move is moving the scales. Clean the feet and your floor, then try different positions. Mine change by up to 3 kilos. I don’t, but I get a nicer number!
I just measured myself and I’ve lost 1/2 inch from my waist and an inch from my thighs, but I could just be pulling the tape measure tighter. Seconds on the mashed potato were a very bad idea last night.

Ledochas · 28/06/2023 08:58

Ha, @Zebracat, I'd be afraid the number would go up, not down!

Icandothis1970 · 28/06/2023 12:21

@PinkArt I've tried second nature (which is UK based very similar to Noom) which works on changing habits. I didn't do very well on it. But that's more my fault than the system.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/06/2023 12:59

I did a free trial of noom and I thought it was ok, although any lifelong dieters like me will find the ‘lessons’ quite basic I think. I also don’t actually like this ‘everything in moderation’ message as it completely fails to recognise that, very often, we can’t moderate. Healthy foods such as full fat Greek yogurt and chicken thighs with fat on were red foods I think as well and it just didn’t fit with the way of eating that works best for me. It seemed to fit very neatly with a sort of slimming world kind of diet- loads of low fat carbs, fruit and veg, some meat, a small treat every day etc, - but that doesn’t work for me either in actual weight loss terms or in ‘ability to stick long term’ terms.

in other news, I have had a really good few days. I have been low (ish) carb and as a result have actually successfully managed to stay at calories. I weighed this morning and I am 153.3lbs - so about a 4lb loss since Sunday AND under 11st for the first time this year definitely, maybe longer. Downsides include: running very slow due to no carbs, sleep not great as feel buzzy at bedtime, and craving carbs a bit today- but I’m eating all the fats and just going to ride out the detox days as it won’t last long. But I’m still absolutely thrilled. I needed a boost, I was really struggling so it’s very positive and I’m going to keep it up as long as I can,

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/06/2023 19:53

Another really good day for me today. I did a bit of switching around as our food stocks are running pretty low and we’re trying very hard not to do top up shops unless absolutely necessary. I’ve closed the kitchen on 1525 cals and 66g carbs. I reckon I have drunk 4l of water today, I’ve been really thirsty.
food was:
B- yoghurt, chia and berries,
L- portion of chilli, (quite a lot of) Red Leicester cheese, fruit
snack- Turkey meatballs left from last nights dinner
D- tin of tuna mashed with avocado, mayo and pesto, in a cucumber boat. Grapes.

I have no idea what I will eat tomorrow, I have no breakfast food left and no salad and nothing in the freezer. I have a PTA event starting as soon as I finish work so I’m not even sure how I will get to a supermarket unless I can get a click and collect for the morning.

I’m feeling quite on a roll this week, I almost don’t want the weekend to come along yet to spoil my streak but I am determined to stick to both my calories and carbs. I’m not going to weigh in for a few days now, after my good loss yesterday - I’m due on in a few days so I don’t want to get disheartened.

how’s everyone else getting on?

effiesgoldwig · 29/06/2023 20:33

Aaargh! I'm off the wagon! Crisps chocolate and pastries at work today! I'm just so tired this week I can't meal plan and it's gone tits up.

poorpaws · 29/06/2023 20:45

@effiesgoldwig You'll get back on it soon. It's always disappointing when we fall off the wagon but it's a lot worse if we stay off it, so jump back on as soon as you can. I happens to all of us.🤷‍♀️

I absolutely hate calorie counting, hate it! But I've had no idea how many calories I consume on a regular basis. Yesterday I decided to do a days counting but if I'm not sure how much of something I've eaten, I way over-estimate so my total yesterday was something like 1,850 calories 😱 not far off 2,000 (which of course it actually wasn't).

Today I've weighed everything, absolutely everything and spent nearly all evening researching the true calorific values. I'm reporting in at 1,554 exactly which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper with no snacks and no calories in any drinks. I've also done over 16,000 steps, am shattered and about ready for bed. Good day? It is as far as I'm concerned but how it compares with everyone else I have no idea. Oh and I won't be counting calories any more, did I say I hate it.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 29/06/2023 20:50

@thenewaveragebear1983 I see I've had just a few more calories than you so I'm seeing that as a result.

I've got a bit better idea now and I've found out I had far too much low cal salad dressing, too much cottage cheese and yogurt coleslaw and my jacket potatoes are too big but the rest is good.

OP posts:
Gigi789 · 29/06/2023 21:33

I’m with @effiesgoldwig im afraid - although not crisps but I haven’t been very careful and I bought full fat coke 😱madness… I blame the heat. So that’s my calories used up in 2 glasses ☹️…. Well done to this weeks losers - I’ll start on Monday promise 😚

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/06/2023 21:35

I hate counting calories too, but once I get into the groove it’s easier. It’s so easy to have just a bit more of everything, and because it’s always close to the wire for me, I have no wiggle room so I need to weigh and track for it to work.

one tip if you are using digital scales- instead of trying to weigh stuff scooping out a spoonful and weighing it or weighing the packet before and after, if you put the full pack on the digital scales and reset it to zero, then whatever you take out will show as a minus in grams. Makes it much easier for eg, peanut butter, mayo, sauces etc.

@effiesgoldwig I feel your pain, I think just remind yourself that it doesn’t make you feel good and plan for tomorrow.

poorpaws · 30/06/2023 08:50

Good morning all, how are you doing?

It's quite slow going here, I'm trying so hard but finding it so difficult at the moment. I'm living on fruit and salad mainly and it is lovely, I'm enjoying every meal but Im craving ice cream, bacon sandwiches, ooh loads of things. Strangely enough I'm not particularly craving chocolate which is my biggest downfall and the main reason I'm fat.

I think I'm in the right frame of mind to lose but I'm getting very impatient at how slowly it's coming off. How about making July a "we'll all lose more this month"? I'm not really sure what else I can do but I'm bored with this snails pace so I suppose I need some oomph support. I think I'll have to take it one week at a time, try a little harder and get this weight gone.

Im rambling, just thinking to myself really, I just feel it's taking for ever.

OP posts:
Icandothis1970 · 30/06/2023 09:03

I agree @poorpaws . It's all so boring when the weight doesn't come off quick enough. I KNOW that 1lb a week is what I should be aiming for but I want 7lbs off!!! 😂and when that doesn't happen, I have a little strop about it.

I think because I have 'watched my weight' for about 35 years now with various diets, I'm just bored of the whole thing! Finding the oomph that I had when I lost 4 stone in my teens, the extra 2 stone that went back on in my 30's is so hard!

oo bacon sarnie....yum...and I'm a vegetarian!! 😂

Gigi789 · 30/06/2023 14:08

Oooh, I’d give a boost month a go. I was rubbish at the boost week but didn’t see the post until it had already started. Still 14.01 st… no surprise as I’ve not tried very hard to be good.

poorpaws · 30/06/2023 14:24

@Gigi789 The problem is a boost month would be so difficult if it's done properly and I'm not sure it isn't just too difficult.

When this thread was started, quite a long time ago now, boost week was LAW, no-one cheated, we chose a week when none of us had meals out/days out/holidays planned and all of us lost 4 to 5 lbs during that week, it was hell though, pure hell.

Now boost week seems not that much different to a normal week with just a little push. I think if we did boost week properly, really knuckle down, we'd all lose a decent amount but it's hard to do.

I'm just tired and bored with this and want it done (which it would easily have been now if I hadn't faffed about losing and gaining). I think I'm just sick of failing or not doing in properly all the time. I need a good shake.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 30/06/2023 14:27

@Icandothis1970 I feel exactly the same as you, I want it all done in about two weeks with little effort. I've also been dieting all my adult life (I was a skinny kid) and I've had enough (but not really as I want this weight off),

OP posts:
poorpaws · 30/06/2023 14:28

I think I'm just tired, deflated and grumpy today.
