@poorpaws what an alternative dogwalk. Jealous. We’ve already been for our walk. We let him off lead and he came back every time we called. Well done on the weight loss. 4 lbs in 2 weeks is fantastic.

poorpaws · 26/06/2023 08:51

@Zebracat the dog walk is not as good as it might sound. We go onto the dog friendly beach where the dogs can be off lead but I imagine it's going to be quite busy if the tide is out. If the tide is in there is nowhere to go (apart from the park) as in summer months the dogs aren't allowed on the other beach even on lead. Also the toilet situation is dire and since I drink a lot of Diet Coke it's a problem.

We'll see how it goes, how busy it is and if the dogs enjoy it. I am very aware it's my old dogs last summer so I want to make her happy.

It sounds like you've got a lovely dog, so handsome and well behaved, I suspect the previous owners are distraught.

Well done @Zebracat , what a great loss!

@poorpaws your goal sounds achievable, and you’ve got it in the bag I reckon. Well done

poorpaws · 26/06/2023 11:36

@Zebracat We had an amazing time, the dogs loved it. I didn't think the greyhound would like the sea but she loved it.

@poorpaws He is lovely, although not quite as perfect as described by them! I dont know if they will be distraught. I hope not, cos I said we would give him back if they couldn’t bear it, but I don’t want to. I think they might be relieved. He spent a lot of time on his own in the kitchen and he didn’t get as much exercise or stimulation as he needs, so they may feel relieved.

Oh those happy doggies. Gorgeous. I would have been in with them!

poorpaws · 26/06/2023 11:40

@thenewaveragebear1983 Thank you, I wish I had as much faith in me as you have but I'm going to try. We nearly had ice cream at the beach but I thought of the next weigh-in.

Thanks for letting me join, everyone. This is a really lovely supportive thread so I'm glad I've found you.

Sleep deprivation is real here and I know it affects weight loss but with a 4m old and a 3.5yr old I don't see that changing soon.

I've decided that I'm going to focus on consistency for two weeks: drinking water, using my spin bike every couple of days, a weights video, taking my supplements, using MyFitnessPal. I think if I could do that all consistently for two weeks that would be an achievement in itself.

Congrats on the losses this morning. Hoping I can post something similar next Monday.

poorpaws · 26/06/2023 14:24

@Ledochas I'm sure if you keep to that plan you'll be a loser next week.

I understand sleep depravation because I suffered from it for years due to work stress. I go to bed very early now (mainly due to my excessive snacking during the evening). It felt strange at first but now I wouldn't like to be up late and I have far more energy in the mornings.

I've just finished my workout so I'm going to relax in the garden for a little while now because I think I've earned it 😁

Sounds like some great successes this week well done!

@Zebracat under 15 st is where I want to be too! I weighed in at 15st 1.5 today which is down and genuinely reflects my boost week loss now thankfully.

2lbs more off will get me under 15 which is a huge milestone for me that I've been looking forward to for ages. Its my birthday in 4 weeks so I'm going to aim for 14.10 for my birthday with will be a full 4 stone off in two years.

Great work everyone. We can do this.

poorpaws · 26/06/2023 17:36

@effiesgoldwig well done you 👏🏻

You are doing so well and 4 st is massive, I am in ore of your progress.
I'm sure you'll get to your mini goal for your birthday, you are such an amazing example to us all.

Speaking of mini goals, it's getting near to the end of June so we need to declare a mini goal for the end of July.

OP posts:
Zebracat · 26/06/2023 19:03

@effiesgoldwig I honestly thought I would never get here, once I didn't make it in March! It’s given me such a lift. I never want to be 15 something again, although I remember the buzz when I got there too. You are doing brilliantly, I hope it comes to you soon, but even if it doesn’t, it will come eventually.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/06/2023 19:29

Well done 👏 @effiesgoldwig , awesome weight loss. You’ll absolutely get under 15 by your birthday!

@Ledochas oh I remember those sleep deprived days. You’re doing amazingly well to even be thinking about a spin class!

I had a much better 2 days. Yesterday I managed 1300 calories and 48g carbs, and today I have ended up on 1600 cals and 52g carbs so I’m very pleased with both. Today a little more calories as I ate a bit of chicken after my run. My run was tough, probably as a result of v low carbs yesterday, it is instantly noticeable but it does settle down.

i’ve made a massive chilli with beans and half mushrooms/half mince which I’ve carefully totalled up and weighed into portions for lunches for the next few days.

Tomorrow is my gym class in the morning and it’s my office day so I find it generally a very tiring tricky day and I often end up crashing out on whatever I can find when I get home. I’ve prepped my breakfast already, and I will take my chilli, some cheese, and some salad with mayo to work and hopefully that will curb my hunger. My biggest thing on office days is remembering to drink, so I have packed a 2l water. I have some berries and peaches to take with me as well. The kids will be having sausages for dinner which I won’t have, so I’ll probably have a salad with avocado and tuna.

TalkToTheHand123 · 26/06/2023 20:14

Hi all, I started swimming instead of going to the gym (second session since first last week) and quite enjoying it, hopefully I will notice a difference in a few weeks. (20 mins slow breast stroke and shattered 🤭). Hopefully find my goggles soon too as can't find them.

Icandothis1970 · 27/06/2023 09:52

Hello everyone 👋I'm new to this thread.

I'm desperately struggling with 4 stone weight gain over last 13 years from packing in the fags, sedentary job, no time to formulate consistent exercise into my day (kids are now pretty much independent though), relying on UPF snack foods and generally too big portions (I seem to think I need to match my husbands plates; he's 6'4" and I'm 5'5"!!) . Now 53, menopausal and a fat lump. 😕

So I need some accountability. I need to face the fear and say 'yes I can do this' (this time), have belief in myself and start on the road of a much more healthier lifestyle to the one I currently have.

So I've downloaded Nutracheck app to count calories and am on week 9 of the Slimpod programme (doesn't seem to be doing much tbh but who knows?!)

Zebracat · 27/06/2023 11:13

Welcome @Icandothis1970 . Is Slimpod a meal replacement programme?

Zebracat · 27/06/2023 11:23

Sorry, matching husbands meals size is familiar, mine is 2.5 stone lighter than me. I have trained myself to put a lot less on my plate so it can be done.
We try and be supportive of each other ,and ourselves, odd kick up the bum notwithstanding. I would not call myself a fat lump, because self loathing is quite unnecessary, plenty of people out there in real life will do that for us. Also, I think it kind of denies responsibility, and the possibility of change. That’s not a criticism, just food for thought , maybe?

Zebracat · 27/06/2023 11:34

I was trying to think about a kick up the bum, as an example, and I hope @poorpaws won’t mind if I tell you that some of us challenged her perception that chocolate falls into her body every night and she is powerless to prevent it!

Icandothis1970 · 27/06/2023 12:53

@Zebracat
Slimpod is an online program; they provide podcasts to listen to on repeat that 'talk' to your unconscious mind about reducing sugar, weightloss, feeling more inclined to exercise - that kind of thing. Kind of similar to hypnotherapy if you like.

Oh I know. Negative talk is so bad; I do try and catch myself on and try and turn the comment into a positive but I'm only human and don't manage it 100% of the time.

"Also, I think it kind of denies responsibility, and the possibility of change." and absolutely agree with this statement. It's kind of "If I don't own up to it then I can't/won't/don't need to do anything about it." and "4 stone?! You'll never manage to do that so why bother starting?!" These are the kind of messages I hear my brain saying to me; and I need to turn these around.

🙂

poorpaws · 27/06/2023 13:33

@Zebracat and @Icandothis1970
I don't mind you using me as a bad example 😁, it's true. Chocolate was my main weight gain problem, I could eat a lot every night (the amount that would make most people sick). I've always eaten healthily but mindless chocolate eating at night was making me bigger and bigger. I absolutely knew what my problem was but couldn't (wasn't willing) to fix it.

I'm an all or nothing person so atm I've given the dreaded chocolate up. It's early days but I'm not going near it and a granola bar three nights a week is my only treat.

In other news 🙈 after being sooo good for two weeks I was starving last night. I am furious with myself because I had a big bowl of Shreddies and two granola bars! Very bad but nothing like my earlier binges and I'm going to try to make it up. I'm worried I might do it again tonight so kick up the bum desperately needed and an alternative desperation snack advice needed.

Anyway @Icandothis1970 welcome. Please stick with us even if you have a bad week, we are all in this together and none of us are perfect (especially me obviously).

@poorpaws and @Zebracat well done in getting into the next stone down brackets 👌

I'm still flipping 14st1. I think I'm doomed to stay at this weight 😬
Not really, I know why I haven't lost this week - lack of willpower on the weekend.

We have a party on Friday night so that will be difficult but I dont want to drink too much anyway and will stick to gin and tonic rather than wine.

@effiesgoldwig we can get the 2lb to take us into the next bracket! It's doable. 4st in 2 years though is brilliant, well done.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I find it easier when I'm in the office as I can't constantly eat food from my own kitchen. I do struggle with water though - does 7 cups of tea count?

@TalkToTheHand123 I went swimming last night too, first time in around 20 years proper swimming! I really enjoyed it, not least because I used to swim 3 or 4 times a week and I miss it, but also I could not face the treadmill yesterday.

I'm on holiday at the end of July for 2 weeks (camper vanning around north of England) - if weather is good we will bbq most nights so hopefully won't find it too difficult.
A mini goal for end July is therefore a great idea for me to tie in with hols. Im going to aim for 4lb off which will be 13st11.

What are everyone else's mini goals?

poorpaws · 27/06/2023 15:02

Hi @MrJollyLivesNextDoor you are doing well ,you will get there. There may be one or two disappointing gains on the way but one day you will do it and it will be so worth it.

I stated my mini goal for July earlier but I think it's a bit of a dream, it's 5.5 lbs <gulp> that's a large amount for me in one month but I'll do as well as I can (discounting last evening ☺️).

Don't ruin your holiday by trying too hard, just cut down on what you can and have a lovely time. We will all support you to lose more weight when you return. I envy your camper van, I'd love one.

Zebracat · 27/06/2023 16:01

@poorpaws , stick your maths book down your knickers cos there’s another kick up the bum coming. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having supper if you feel hungry. We need to teach ourselves to respond to our body signals, not ignore them, a bit of protein might have helped last night, maybe a boiled egg or some nuts? , but it’s good to eat when you are hungry, nothing to feel bad about.
my mini goal for July is to be at or about 94 kilos, by the end, but I’m having surgery and they gave me supplements and told me to carb load beforehand because it aids recovery! So I won’t stress too much, I’ll just try not to use it as an excuse to sit on my bum mindlessly munching.

Zebracat · 27/06/2023 16:03

@Icandothis1970 . Thanks for explaining Slimpod, I thought it was like Slimfast! That sounds very helpful.
