Lifestyle makeover blog thread

Well it's not so much a diet as a being healthier thing i'm after. I would benefit from losing a stone but it's not a big deal to me - more I want to be healthier, have more energy and feel good about myself.

Currently I eat OK, few too many sweets/biscuits/hoovering kids leftovers maybe. I drink too much - half a bottle of wine most nights and more at the weekend. It's more a habit than a problem i think. Some weeks I run three times some not at all. I don't spend much time doing anything just for me - pedicure, read a book, hobbies etc. I just think I can do better...be better.

So from today i'm going to set myself some challenges for the coming week, and next sunday i'll add in more until I build up to the lifestyle I want to be having!

So in the next 7 days I will:
Drink no alcohol
Go for at least one run
Make time to do a proper pedicure and sort out my scaly feet!

I'll be updating this thread most days I expect - helps to keep me focused, feel free to join me if you like

Hi . . will join you in lifestyle makeover. Like you I want to be healthier, fitter and definitely need to start on the road of feeling good about myself.

So in next week I will:
Get my hair cut and coloured (way way overdue!!)
Walk a minimum of 3 evenings
Cut out alcohol

Will keep you posted!

JustBeachy · 06/06/2010 18:23

Hi Desire nice to have you with me!

I've been out most of the day - lots of chips and ice-cream but i'll tackle that another week!! I've given my feet a bit of a go with a ped-egg but i think it will take a few sessions this week to get them nice

Usually I would be thinking about cracking open a bottle of wine around now but i'm not going to tonight. Going to do a bit of housework, have a shower and write a shopping list for the supermarket tomorrow then get an earlyish night. I think one of my problems is I don't get enough sleep - last Thurs I was up til 2.30 ironing and watching a film and DS woke me up at 4.45am not drinking alcohol will prob give me better quality sleep too i'm hoping.

Good luck with your resolutions today

No wine last night which is good and i was asleep by 11pm (up at 5 to put DS back in bed then properly up at 6ish).

After a stressful day of harassment by DD and the ironing looming I would be reaching for the wine again tonight unless I had started this blog I will not though. Been shopping today and didn't buy any - got some beer for DH instead as I don't like that and won't be tempted. Sparkly water for me!

Raining here today and a new project just came in (I freelance) so must get on with that as soon as kids back to school tomorrow (thank god!). Am going to try to run one morning this week after school drop off if it's not raining.

Tonight am going to get all the school stuff ready for the morning and tackle the ironing. Joy.

Delaying my start date to tomorrow as I was out for a meal last night and lunch today! Not a normal occurence for me! Anyway had two glasses of red wine with meal last night and 1 glass of red wine with lunch today. Back to work tomorrow so will put resolutions in place then.

desiretochange · 08/06/2010 12:38

Booked hair appointment for Saturday morning . . Only about 6 weeks overdue for cut and colour!!

JustBeachy · 08/06/2010 20:47

Well done on the haircut - hope you look and feel fab after!

I have to confess to drinking wine last night - DH turned up with a bottle and cooked dinner which was lovely but I was that I didn't just decline the booze!

Tonight am back on the wagon - off for a shower in a min then some work to get on with.

desiretochange · 08/06/2010 22:04

Declined friends offer of calling up for a bottle of wine which is a habit we have fallen into over last few years (sometimes a couple of nights a week and one night at weekend. Instead washed kitchen cupboards (exciting stuff) and went for a walk.

desiretochange · 10/06/2010 11:14

Morning justbeachy how are your resolutions going? No wine again for me last night. Cleaned out fridge and started new book. Was too wet to go for a walk but weather better here today so hopefully will get a walk in!

JustBeachy · 10/06/2010 12:24

Having a bit of a stressful/hectic week actually...got a big meeting about my son's education next week and i'm getting all worked up about it...Daughter off school ill today so can't get any work done...I feel a bit unhinged tbh!! I think I am going to start this resolution thing in 10 days time when this is all over!

Well done though desire sounds like you are doing really well

Hi justbeachy you certainly sound stressed and with good reason! Don't stress yourself further by trying to keep resolutions. Wait till things have calmed down. Will check thread daily and see how things are going with you. Look after yourself!

JustBeachy · 11/06/2010 11:04

I went for a run this morning...twas lovely...good to clear my head

Morning JustBeachy well today is the day for the long overdue haircut (they will probably charge me double for the amount of hair they will have to cut off). Didn't get any more walking in but going to compensate today by tackling my jungle of a garden. Will post new resolutions later. Had some wine Thursday evening.

melbournevictoriaaustralia · 12/06/2010 08:39

Don't quit. Hang in there if you can! I have been lurking since this thread started and at the same time trying to gear myself up to join you.

I want to lose a bit of weight, cut back on alcohol, get back to regular exercise, take better care of me so I have the energy to be nicer to the family and have a bit more of a positive attitude.

Like you, I have a lot on at the moment and understand how hard it is to do this under pressure. That's the reason I haven't yet started!

If you can't do it now, just don't disappear altogether! You have got me motivated and I am going to start moving myself in the direction I know I need to go in. If you want to maintain a partial commitment to this thread, I'm watching and possibly so are others!

darkandstormy · 12/06/2010 11:32

melbourne All that you have said applies to me also, mainly the booze issue I want to lose about a stone and generally, get it togethet a bit more lifestyle wise.So I am on board.Am going to a wedding tonight but panning on not drinking.Sadly had a bottle last night, not going to beat myself up about it just try alittle harder today.Good luck to you all, we may need it this week what with the world cup booze and crisps sessions readily available

JustBeachy · 13/06/2010 08:37

Hope your haircut was a success desire

Hi dark and melbourne - good to know i'm not alone in feeling like this!

Well it's Sunday and i'm ready to make some challenges/resolutions for the coming week:

I will try to:
Only drink alcohol on two nights this week
Go for 2 runs
Get on top of a work project that's bothering me

Am hoping to get time to do a chunk of the work thing today so I can start Monday with less on my plate iyswim?

Might try and run today too - weather is beautiful

diamondsandtiaras · 13/06/2010 21:12

Can I join you? I need to loose a good few stone and want to generally start taking better care of myself......my fitness levels are horrendous and I want to be able to stop wearing maternity trousers

Resolutions for the week;
No alcohol
No bingeing on biscuits and cakes
Cleanse, tone and moisturise before bed
Get on top of my cleaning rota

MABS · 13/06/2010 22:01

am lurking too, will join after my bday tmro, know that will be messy

melbournevictoriaaustralia · 13/06/2010 22:18

Thanks for the great ideas. I am going to just jump in and start making some changes, instead of waiting for the perfect moment.

This week my goals are to

  1. Not drink alcohol (Had way too much on the weekend,
  2. Clean face before bed 3)To live in the moment and not let my mind runaway with worries (am hoping this will help me develop the habit of positive thinking) 4)Eat x2fruits p.day a morning and afternoon tea 5)To give self a manicure and pedicure today

I really need to add in exercise but at this stage it feels ambitious, but ok, time to stop putting it off....

  1. Will go to gym on Thursday (which I know will make me feel good afterwards but is going to take a lot of effort to get there as I haven't been in ages.)

Good luck everyone, even if we manage some of our goals at least we are getting our lives back on the path we know we should be on.

JustBeachy · 14/06/2010 09:12

I went for a run yesterday and did a couple of hours on that work project virtuous emoticon I did however also drink wine so that's one of my two drinking nights used already!!

Going to supermarket today to stock up on healthy yummy food, also got to get to grips with the laundry and do a few hours work at some point - busy busy so I better go and get on with it!!

Well done to everyone joining here - one step at a time ladies!

Hi I would like to join too! I really want to get fit, I'm starting a new job in september as a weight management facilitator. I know all about healthy eating and my weight isn't really an issue but I am not very active. I used to run but I have bad knees now so have given that up, would really like to find a new "hobby" that will get me fit.

Aims this week:

  • Do at least 3 20min workouts
  • Been thinking of trying a dancercise class so I think i will give that a go.
  • Give myself a manicure, really need it.
melbournevictoriaaustralia · 14/06/2010 22:25

Well, I managed to achieve a few goals yesterday. I gave myself the long awaited manicure and pedicure and my nails look so much better for it! I also kept away from the alcohol and cleansed face before bed.

JustBeachy I also need to add stocking up on healthy food to my list. We are eating too many ready made meals in this house and too much take-away!

darkandstormy Did you manage to get through the wedding alcohol free?

JustBeachy · 16/06/2010 07:00

How is everyone doing? I'm pretty good all things considered! No wine last night and I broke the back of the niggly work project - another couple of hours and it will be done

Scary meeting this morning so what happens after that depends on the meeting I guess! And how long it goes on for...might try to go for a nice de-stressing run after kids go to bed this eve if i feel like it. Ideally I want to finish the work thing tonight...we'll see!

Hope you are all OK

melbournevictoriaaustralia · 16/06/2010 10:17

JustBeachy Good luck today. I hope the meeting goes well

MAB Enjoy the birthday celebrations!

After getting off to a good start, I am losing motivation today! Went to bed last night without removing make-up!

Now after a couple of days back at work, I am feeling tired and its after 7pm this side of the world, so I must admit am thinking of the wine in the fridge!

Must refocus and remember why I am on this thread and go and face a mountain of iron instead!

melbournevictoriaaustralia · 16/06/2010 10:20

That should have said a mountain of ironing! Not taking mountains of vitamin supplements!
