food focus - anyone else using this fab free site?

I love food, hate diets and would sooner chew my arm off to lose weight than pay someone to weigh me in public.

Food Focus allows you to input your height/weight and it calculates your daily calorie intake to loose a sensible weekly target.

I want to use 1.5 stone by October. I've been using it for just over a week and I lost 2lbs (target was only a 1lb!)

I'm just no nonsense lower calorie, healthy eating. Weighing what I eat and logging it all on my food log. It allows you to log exercise too and calculates your calorie quota accordingly. But, to my shame, I do no formal exercise at all so I'm choosing not to do that bit.

I'm finding it very helpful - and couldn't find a current thread about it so thought I'd share.

Awww treacletart, sorry to hear that, but please stick with us!
Welcome, thathsnotmyfruitshoot...glad you found it worked for you last year.
I had lost 4lbs in 2 weeks, then went away at the wknd and put on 2lb again. Struggling this week as AF is here Haven't even bothered entering anything in my food log since Monday night. I really should...but I can think of a million other things I'd rather do....

thehairybabysmum · 04/08/2010 13:33

Stick with it treacle, maybe have a couple of low carb days or can you walk to work or suchlike to get it moving again? If you are eating right then it will show up eventually im sure.

I need to weigh tonight, have eaten a bit more the last couple of days but i did run a 10k on sunday. I also do Tae kwondo but hadnt been for a few weeks but went back last night so that burns off lots of calories...am hoping to see the benefit soon!! I am going to a wedding the weekend after next and my dress is a bit snug....could do with losing a few lbs beforehand!

Iwill....enter todays....never mind the weeeknd, damage limitation, if yo start again today you wont put any more on...you have still lost 2lb!! AF will have had an effect too, i always weigh more during mine so it might not be a real 2 lb gain either IYSWIM.

iwilldothis · 05/08/2010 14:24

damage limitation..... I like that!

I'm slowly getting back on track. Did some baking today, buns with buttercream icing....and I haven't even eaten any myself yet Going to a party this evening, so will bring some there, going out to friends for dinner tomorrow night, so another batch for there. Put some aside for MIL and DH can scoff the rest
They're full of sugar and butter and really really bad stuff...who likes buns anyway?!?

thehairybabysmum · 06/08/2010 21:47

In case you didnt know, 10 afer eight mints ae only 88 cals....can you tell it's fri night?!!! That seems quite low though, im impressed!

So not having the strictest evening, wine and chocs but hey ho! There's always tmw!

Impressive you've not any any cakes!

MNTotoro · 07/08/2010 10:32

Just re-joined.....nearly obese. eek. back later.

iwilldothis · 09/08/2010 15:16

2lb lost last week Grin

(even though I had 2 of the buns in the end Blush )

amigababy · 09/08/2010 22:38

Hello

I've been inspired to join Food Focus after reading about it here - was on fatsecret but it is very american and I got a bit distracted with all the challenges/diaries/forums etc. I like the simplicity of FF.
Only trying to lose 9 lbs, as have already lost 2 stone just by lifestyle change and taking up exercise. I like seeing how many extra calories the exercise buys me.
been to an aged aunt's today though and she did lasagne and many other things I won't mention (it's not fair to) which were hard to refuse when I've not seen her in months.
So todays number went pear-shaped.
I discovered you can copy.paste the food history summary to a spreadsheet and then calculate the % of calories from fat/carb/protein to see if its close to the 30/40/30 supposed optimum ratio. (sorry, I'm an accountant, I like numbers :) )
Anyway, off away soon, going to hand-write it all an key it in when I'm back so the averages make sense. plus I always gain weight on holiday so hopefully this'll keep me on track.

treacletart · 09/08/2010 23:02

Last weighed myself Sunday and I was STILL 10st 9! I'm not slacking off at all though, promise. Off on holiday soon and not expecting to lose any there, but will try a little zig zagging and some formal exercise (powerplates anyone?) on my return. Still logging everything properly though - I've really got the hang of all the logging methods now and all the graphs too. Does the top right fat/protein/carb chart not push your buttons Amigababy? Does it not work to your ratio? I really like the graphs. Mine don't look quite so great with my recent plateau, but they do help.

Oh dear 10 after eights WEIGH 88g, they are 330ish calories...oops!!

Im stuck on a weight plateau too treacle, tis v. depressing. Im religously logging everything and have been under the target cals for over 2 weeks and lost nothing...not sure what is going on there but i'm hoping that if i stick with it i will see a result soon for my efforts!

Ran 6 miles on sunday am which was a good job as i had an ice cream at the cinema which was basically the same calories as the run!

amigababy · 10/08/2010 09:58

Smile at running 6 miles - fantastic; can't get my head round running at all

Gill79 · 10/08/2010 15:28

Hello everyone just joined FF after seeing it here. Looks great! I've lost 4lbs in the last month or so but want to lose 3 more (or more....) target 8st7lbs, am 5'2". Have been running lots for ages but then got a sore knee two weeks before a wedding with a very tight satin dress.. eek, started doing the calorie counting properly and cutting out snacks and sugar in the day time.... guess what, it only blooming well works better than anything.

Love anything with stats and charts :) Is so illuminating being able to see everything
you eat - really makes you think twice!

Treacletart - keep going! How frustrating...

THBM LOL at the after 8s. Almost ran out to get some!

iwilldothis · 10/08/2010 19:12

hbm you ran 6 miles?! Good for you! I'd collapse in a heap if I ran 6 yards!
Welcome, newcomers, keep us all motivated! :)

thehairybabysmum · 11/08/2010 13:49

Thanks, good job i did mind after my After Eights mistake!!

treacletart · 12/08/2010 15:15

Yahoo!!! plateau over! I am no longer 10 stone 9.....

I am now .... ... 10 stone 6!

Now, let's see what 2 weeks of my Mum and Dad in France does to my charts Grin

OP posts:
iwilldothis · 12/08/2010 20:06

Well done, treacletart! :) Good for you! You and I are now about the same weight. I was just 1lb lighter on Mon but today I was at a friend's house and pigged out for lunch and am pigging out again now. Blush And I haven't recorded my food since, ummm.... Saturday I think. You see, I eat at other people's houses quite a lot and don't want to make a fuss and weigh my food at their houses and then I get out of the habit at home and just forget..... Blush I'm wondering if I should just be careful about what I eat and weigh myself weekly and fill that in on FF....dunno, dunno.... I'm getting lazy...also trying to start my own wee business at the mo, so that's taking up a lot of my time...and DD is only 1yr old, so I'm busy, busy, busy.... ok, now I'm just making up excuses :(

MNTotoro · 12/08/2010 20:25

I've been guestimating my food quantities tbh. I have lost 3lb since last Friday though so I'm happy.

Gill79 · 12/08/2010 22:33

Well done Treacle! Worth the wait....

Annner · 13/08/2010 00:01

Well done, Treacle! I am just back from holiday, and read the ongoing plateau posts with bated breath. So fab to see so many others on here, too.

I'm due to jump on the scales tomorrow after my 17 nights in France. Oh, the bread Blush

On verra.

I may be logging in again for a few weeks to get myself back once more...

Keep that loss slow and steady, ladies: no mad dashes here.

thehairybabysmum · 16/08/2010 22:43

Well done treacle!!!

I darent get on my scales, big family wedding = lots of profiteroles (and plenty else!) so darent.

treacletart · 27/08/2010 17:36

oh ...

So a 12 day french holiday has left me with an unwelcome souvenir of, get this, 5 lbShock!

Blimey I was expecting a couple of pounds because I wasn't using FF at all when I was away. Admittedly, I didn't stint on the cheese - but you know I wasn't very carb heavy at all, I had no more than a glass of wine a day and I did loads of walking. Oh well I'm back with a vengeance now!

OP posts:
iwilldothis · 27/08/2010 19:55

oh, treacle, it doesn't seem fair if you did so much walking, does it?
I've been bad, bad, bad. A bit stressed out and haven't been logging anything, nor do I know my weight :( Time to start again methinks....

Annner · 31/08/2010 16:59

Bummer, bummer, bummer, Treacle. Doesn't seem fair!

I'm back to plotting FF again, after a weekend in Somerset in the land of Clotted Cream did more damage than two weeks in France. Eeek.

Target is to be around 58 kg by half term. Currently 62. Not mahoosively above my nice weight of normal BMI of 25 (which is 61.8 kg for me) but enough with the hide-it-all-under-tops-and-thermals season approaching.

treacletart · 02/09/2010 13:01

Hi all! So we're back on board!

My weigh in day today and I'm 10 stone 9 again - so that's 2lbs down and back to my plateau weight. Hope I won't be stuck as long as last time though!

OP posts:
Annner · 02/09/2010 20:51

Good to see that at least some of those lbs didn't get too comfy.

LizinFrance · 06/09/2010 21:12

Hi everyone,

Can I join you all? Registered with Food Focus 2 days ago and its fab!!! Quite an eye opener!! I need to lose 4 stone, but giving myself target of 2 stone by Christmas. Live in France, and going back to UK for Christmas. Lots of family have lost weight and I dont want to go back 'the big one' again!

Does food focus show you anywhere what percentage of your daily intake should be carbs/fat/protein?. I know it shows me what i have eaten, but would be good to know what it should be.

Cheers
Liz
