food focus - anyone else using this fab free site?

I love food, hate diets and would sooner chew my arm off to lose weight than pay someone to weigh me in public.

Food Focus allows you to input your height/weight and it calculates your daily calorie intake to loose a sensible weekly target.

I want to use 1.5 stone by October. I've been using it for just over a week and I lost 2lbs (target was only a 1lb!)

I'm just no nonsense lower calorie, healthy eating. Weighing what I eat and logging it all on my food log. It allows you to log exercise too and calculates your calorie quota accordingly. But, to my shame, I do no formal exercise at all so I'm choosing not to do that bit.

I'm finding it very helpful - and couldn't find a current thread about it so thought I'd share.

Oooh I'm loving this.

Started monday and weighed myself on the wii last night, either lost two or three pounds (depending on which program I had on lol). Going to weigh myself again Monday and use that figure.

I have snacked and eaten junk every day - one day I had a bag of my favourite sweets, I've eaten crisps most days (grab bags!) ice lollies everything... but by eating three sensible meals I can still easily keep my calories and fat intake down (It claims I burn 2300, my target it set was 1600 but I've personally set my limit at 1200-1400).

desertgirl · 02/07/2010 08:44

was using for about a month, lost 4kg and 3.5cm off waist/3cm off hips. Having a week off (too much eating things I have no idea what to write down for!) but being careful, then will try again - I really have found it helpful.

treacletart · 05/07/2010 19:24

Booooooo! My first plateau week! Still I've been expecting one for ages although I haven't been cheating at all - will have to see what happens next weigh-in. If I haven't lost any more next Monday, I might have to consider doing some proper exercise

Can i join you folk?

I have just started using this today! I was using the Spark which is similar but American so it doesnt have some English foods in the database.

I am currently 74kg but only 5.1ft (eep)

I am just trying to excersise 20 mins a day, wether it be a short jog round the block or Wii Fit and eat reasonably, i used to live off fast food, wine and junk (which is shocking for someone who was a chef!) but i have had to change my ways, my darling Mum died in April during a Heart operation and we were going to loose wieght together so im doing it for her and myself.

I also have severe Hyper mobility syndrome so carrying excess wieght does not help.

I have a q though... i can never meet my calorie goal and i eat a fair amount, anyone else find this?
Like today after a 5 min jog and an hours walking my Calorie intake is showing 1000cals but accoring to this site im supposed to be eating about 200 more?

treacletart · 05/07/2010 22:47

Hi Titsalina. Welcome aboard! Hope it's as helpful for you as it has been for me. I started at a similar weight to you and I've lost 12lb since mid May.

I don't log any exercise myself because (as yet) I don't do any formal exercise at all - but from what I've read the Food Focus calorie allowance for exercise might be on the generous side. My daily target, to lose a pound a week calculated as "sedentary" (although I'm probably more accurately described as "
moderately active" is 1228kcal - To be honest, I don't find it too onerous to stick to and I'm quite often a bit under.

OP posts:
TitsalinaBumSquash · 06/07/2010 07:13

I do a reasonable amount fo formal excersise, i go to the GYm once a week for an hour with my Sister, i either jog or box on the Wiifit for 20-30 mins per day, i have also inherited my Nans day to day care so im forever running round shopping or cleaning for her!

I set my thingy at moderatley active so i might change it to one of the lower ones.

treacletart · 06/07/2010 08:18

You sound WAY more active than me
Titsalina - I'd wait to see if it works at the moderate level first and enjoy the extra allowance!

Only another 6 pounds and I think I'll no longer be officially overweight...

Have just found this thread and food focus. You have all inspired me and am going to start as soon as I'm over my nasty cold. Thanks Ladies!

treacletart · 19/07/2010 19:05

no change this week - but it included my birthday (with 2 birthday cakes) and a fancy meal out, so I'm considering that pretty good - here's to a 2lb loss next week!...

OP posts:
BertieBasset · 21/07/2010 18:14

I've lost 9lbs so far now!! Thanks guys for pointing me in the direction of the site, got DH on it and he's lost 5lbs too.

Only 12lbs and I'm back to my wedding day weight. And it is so easy to do!

buttonmoon78 · 21/07/2010 21:40

Just joined it due to this thread - we'll see how it goes.

Titsalina - I too have hyper mobile joints. It's a bugger! And mild scoliosis and disc wear. So, like you, I really need to lose weight for my health. Also (yawn) I had a varicose vein done nearly 2 years ago and I feel like the other ones in that leg are really taking the strain.

So, goodbye fattie. The slim me will emerge!

Annner · 23/07/2010 20:54

[bows] you ladies are all doing soooo well! Treacle, you'll be there in no time.
TBS, you are well on the way. Keep on in there, and you'll be in mini knickers in no time.

I still look at the size 12 labels in my newish knickers and

treacletart · 24/07/2010 10:33

backatacha Annner!

Hi ladies,
is it ok if I join you all please? I started using FF on Monday

iwilldothis · 24/07/2010 13:39

oops, posted that by accident before I'd finished typing!
I am 28, 5ft 2 and weigh 10 and a half stone. I want to lose at least 1 stone. Due to illness I have not been able to exercise and therefore have been gaining weight rapidly and comfort eating. Want to get rid of baby belly too.
Your stories and "stickability" are truly inspiring, thank you

treacletart · 25/07/2010 16:55

welcome and good luck iwilldothis!

I am 5 ft 4 and fairly active, but i eat waaay too much!

The site is fab and im hoping that by posting here too itm will help me stay focused and lose the weight!

treacletart · 27/07/2010 17:57

Boo! a proper plateau... I've been 10stone 9 for more than 2 weeks! Gah! Not too disheartened yet, but DH was really moaning this evening about having to weigh pasta. Our digi scales have gone missing

OP posts:
iwilldothis · 27/07/2010 18:55

hello thehairybabysmum... come on and keep us motivated!
awww treacletart... that's bound to happen and must be tough..but keep going! I'm aready getting tired of weighing everything, and I'm only into week 2!
I've a big bad confession to make. I've been very naughty yesterday and today. Had friends over for a bbq last night and even had chocolate mousse dessert and then today I ate the leftovers for lunch . Was meant to be going for a swim tonight but can't. Confession over.

treacletart · 27/07/2010 20:37

Cheers iwdt and welcome hairybabysmum. one of the best things about this malarkey though, is that you can eat whatever foods and foodgroup mixtures you like, yes even chocolate mousse, as long as you log it and aim to keep under your target. So you can allow for having friends over and eating cakes guilt free if you make up for it elsewhere. You don't have to give up at the first impromptu carbfest. The dashboard really encourages a big picture view.

treacletart · 03/08/2010 23:21

GGGGAHHHH!!! so I'm 10 stone bleedin 9 pounds for my 4th weigh in on the trot! I'm in a proper plateau, tumbleweeds and all. Pretty fed up with it, but not giving in. Will probably start another thread for suggestions, but figure I probably can't avoid joining a gym for much longer. It will have to wait until next month after my holiday though. How's everyone else getting on?

ThatVikRinA22 · 03/08/2010 23:25

why why why

do i keep reading this thread title as

FORD FOCUS

im after a new car. it may be on my mind!

thatsnotmyfruitshoot · 04/08/2010 10:39

vicar

Please may I join? I used FF last year and it was fab - couldn't believe how many calories I was eating in things like baguette!

I've slowly regained some weight, plus a short spell on the Mirena coil added a whopping 10lbs in 6 weeks so I probably have about 20lbs to lose to get back to my ideal weight of about 10st. Will face the scales tomorrow morning for a proper weigh in and report back..
