Anybody tried the Hypnoband?

We're looking into the Hyponband (virtual gastric band done via hypnotherapy and cbt) as a last ditch alternative to gastric surgery. Anybody had it done or contemplating it?
We've masses of weight to lose - 10stone plus each...

How is it going ladies?

I am really interested in how you feel it is working. I have a consultation with a Hypno-Band therapist on Friday.

Was it worth the money? Are you still feeling as positive?

Anyone else tried it?

thanks,
k

Just as an update - I am 6-weeks into the Hypnoband program, and 12lbs down. Very impressed...I'm totally not interested in snacking or picking, can't eat huge meals.

It is not effortless (ie, I am trying to be good)...but I am eating whatever I want (within reason, I have cut out the biscuits, crisps, and chips), but I am still eating chocolate and if I really want something I 'choose' to have it and don't beat myself up.

I'm being happy and realistic about how fast and much I am going to loose (I have 5 stone to loose - aiming for 5lbs a month).

Like the program - would recommend it if you are willing to make an effort.

:)

Wow where are you all from? £200 and £290 BARGAIN!!! lol I've been looking into it and it costs £375 minimum in the birmingham area.

scottie1974 · 22/06/2011 11:17

wow - you guys are so inspiring I contacted clinic today to book my free consultation so looking forward and hope this helps get to the root of why eventhough i can loose 5st+ i cant maintain it;) keep you posted

This all makes very interesting reading......

I had a Hypno Gastric Band fitted 3 weels ago. I don't know how much weight I have lost as I am allergic to scales.
BUT
the shorts I was trying on weekly were mega snug week 1 and now go on and off without being unzipped.
I am in Wiltshire and my guy charges £155.
From Day 1 I struggled to eat even a baby bowl of food with NO snacking :)
I am due to have a tightening session this weekend.
Just out of interest I 'felt' the surgery, smelled the hospital environment and could tell you the colour of my 'surgeon's' eyes.....
I am a definite convert

julie24 · 24/06/2011 06:28

That should have read ' 3 weeks ago'
Obviously

Hi, I have just joined Mumsnet and want to post a message regarding the Hypnoband. I am going for my first consultation on Monday - is anyone else considering this procedure? Would love to hear about anyone else who has had this done recently? Many thanks. Jacqui

Hi, A friend and I have been discussing the possibility of hypnotherapy to help with our weight loss. Last year I lost 3 stone + on sw but put it all back on in the 6months that followed! When I'm good, I'm v good but a switch flips in my brain and I turn into a pig again! I think hypnotherapy- altering the way I feel mentally about food- may help. does anyone in the know recommend hypno-band, has anyone had good, prolonged results? I know how to lose weight- I just can't keep it off :(

laynee82 · 05/01/2012 19:57

Hi,
Can u update on your experience and how you're getting on etc please? I am considering some form of hypnotherapy, just not Aurelius if this is for me.

Thanks in advance,
Laynee82

Bucksfizzy · 07/02/2012 10:54

Hi Leelou

I've had 2 sessions so far and I can definitely that it seems to be working. I started on Jan 21st and so far have lost 8lbs, and I haven't even had the 'op' yet! I can't really explain how or why, but I'm definitely finding that its changed the way I think about food - my portion sizes have shrunk considerably but I haven't had to restrict myself on what I am eating like you would with a normal diet. I no longer have the voice in my head encouraging me to eat between meals, I just eat when I'm hungry. With my groupon voucher deal the courses are actually in groups rather than 1-2-1. I was a bit unsure about this, but I think its actually a good idea, because you get feedback and questions asked by the others which you may not have though of so it helps, and its almost like a little support group! Everyone in my group (9 of us) have seen an improvement, some have lost a considerable amount of weight already (12lbs) just after the first session - and others have been finding it a little more difficult, and so require a little bit more reinforcement, so that benefits all of us. I'm very intrigued in the overall process, especially the 'operation' - I'm interested to see whether it physically prevents you from eating larger portions as some have reported. Will have to wait and see... am quite excited really, have already met my surgeon and anesthetist in the last session ... all sounds a bit daft but I does seem to be working..... Go for it you really haven't got anything to lose, apart from the weight! Have you also managed to get yours with a Groupon voucher?

Cheers and good luck

Leelou75 · 08/02/2012 18:14

I'm jst really really hoping its going to work for me as my weight is getting me down now!!!

hellyf28 · 08/02/2012 20:07

Hi Bucksfizzy & Leelou75
I am very interested in your posts. I am looking into this therapy as other weight loss plans have only worked partially in the past. Have lost 2.5 stones on ww but have hit a brick wall. Once on a diet I can't help but think about food (more than when not counting intake). With the sessions you have done so far has your therapist looked at exercise? If so has this made a difference? Good luck.

Bucksfizzy · 09/02/2012 11:41

Hi LeeLou and Helly

Yes I was eating large portions - didn't eat breakfast, had 2 rounds of sandwiches at lunch, but in the evenings I would always eat the leftovers, so effectively having 2 meals!! Then sometimes if the voice in my head got the better of me then I would even have a snack later which got me to over 20st ? I suppose I was also drinking quite a lot (half a bottle of wine a night). My appetite was rampaging and I always felt hungry, even after eating. However 2 years ago I diagnosed myself with PCOS (had multiple symptoms) and thankfully my female doctor totally agreed with my diagnosis and put me on metformin. One of the side effects of the metformin was that it killed my appetite initially (which helped to stop the voice) and I lost 3 stone in the year.... initially for the first few months I was getting a bit obsessive about weighing everything and calculating the calories which wasn't much fun. Unfortunately due to laziness (after a holiday I couldn't be bothered to do the food weighing/calorie counting bit again) and a recent family bereavement I managed to put 1.5st back on which really annoyed me - so I asked my Doc to increase my metformin medication which she has done. I had heard about the mind band people in Spain years ago but it was expensive and then recently I researched it again to see if they were doing in the uk and found the Hypno-band brand. I started the increased metformin a month ago (went for my checkup today) it helped a little, but wasn't as significant an effect as when I first when on it. Strange thing is as soon as I started the Hypno-band course I started losing weight - the doc is really pleased at my loss so far. Even a month ago I was eating quite large portions in the evening, but only 1 though, but since the course I have been eating much smaller quantities and no seconds. My rational/factual mind tells me it?s ridiculous and shouldn?t work, but I?m certain it is, and the scales seem to be backing it up! They have really reprogrammed me as to the way I think about food ? it is no longer a challenge, or a battle ? it?s just fuel ? so I just don?t think about it. I?m not on a diet, if I want chocolate I?ll have it, I?m just eating much smaller portions. The therapist makes a huge thing out of us NOT being on a diet ? you?re just programmed to eat sensibly which is why the effects presumably last much longer than a diet would, as you are not reverting to normal eating. If I?m honest I?m a little sceptical as to whether the operation bit will really work ? I hope it does - I want it to, so I suppose that?s the main thing! Will have to wait and see. Exercise does come into the therapy ? they don?t make a huge thing out of it - but I have found that I have been more active since, without thinking about it?. All of a sudden I have found the impetus to do things I would have preferred not to before!! That?s what is so strange about it ? you do these things subconsciously without thinking about them?.. it just seems to happens, which makes it all so easy??..so far!! So far into the process I would definitely recommend it ? it?s certainly worth a try.

By the way Leelou, good for you getting the therapy for free ? it must be a no brainer then in that case!!

All the best xx

hellyf28 · 09/02/2012 22:40

Hi Bucksfizzy
Thanks for your message. Well done on your weight loss. Let me know how you get on. I've booked my 1st appointment for next week. I'm hoping it will help with the longer term issues with healthy attitude to food etc. I'm as interested in the CBT aspect of it as the hypnosis. Good luck xxx :)

Leelou75 · 10/02/2012 18:15

To bucksfizzy n Helly

Thank you for replying to my message "Bucksfizzy" it's makes me more to want to go through this treatment even more so now..
Iv had hypnonsis before for weightloss nd it did work as i lost 12lb but then i started to feel ill the back end of 2010 nd it might sound silly but I didn't have the energy to keep going to my sessions!!!
I was diagnosed with hashimotos diease in March of last year but like u I told my doctor what was wrong with me nd he finally agreed to do an antibody test nd my results came back positive ..
Since having this iv put 30lb on but the more I diet the more n more i eat Grrrr ... I know that i do eat far to much but I jst can't seem to help myself so I'm hoping that this new journey is going to work for me :0)
@ Helly good luck on ur journey
Keep me posted girls Leelou xx

Leelou75 · 15/02/2012 21:26

Hi there Bucksfizzy
How's it all going & have u had the op stage done as yet :0) x

Bucksfizzy · 17/02/2012 13:19

Hi Leelou,

no, not yet, its tomorrow.... I'll let you know how I get on. I hope it works, I really want it to, as the last couple of weeks have been a bit disappointing on the weight loss front. I've still been eating much smaller meals but I don't appear to have lost anything...not too concerned though, as I know I am still eating probably a quarter of what I would have so I suppose the loss will have to show somewhere!

Cheers
Bucksfizzy x
