I really want to get fit! I can't afford a gym membership and dont have any childcare either. So I am goning to start exercising at home, maybe a few dvd's some weights etc. Anyone want to join me and give each other some support?

I know I will find it hard as I get bored of things really quickly, so I may need the occasional kick up the arse!

Plus want more ideas of fun exercising I can do that wont break the bank, cant afford any specialist equipment.

Idealy I would like to lose half a stone and just to feel more toned, any takers?

I'll join you, my exercising over the years has always come in spurts... loads at once and then nothing for months! This year I have aimed to find a sustainable fitness regime. I started the year doing the 30 Day Shred dvd and then switched to a weight training programme about 5 weeks ago. I had to buy the weights but it still worked out cheaper than 3 months gym membership and the programme I'm using lasts 6 months and changes every 4 weeks or so, so I'm hoping it will keep me interested. The results are very motivating in themselves though! Do you have any weights or equipment at home already?

twinkle183 · 06/04/2010 15:01

Me... me!! I'll join you! I don't have lots of money either as I am a full time mum and a student!!!

Although I am lucky to have a treadmill that is dh, but he doesn't like me using it... so it's dvd's for me!!

You can lots of cheap one off ebay and I try and change the dvd I'm doing everyday not sure if that helps....

I could do with the support also.. what time of day do you plan to do your exercise?

mrswill · 06/04/2010 16:24

Hello all!

Can I join. Ive been exercising regularly for the past few months so Im reasonably fit ish, but have just purchased the 30 day shred which Im psyching myself up to start tonight. How did you find it LostGirl? Did it make a difference inchwise and with strength?

Ive only got 9lb to goal weight, so the weight is coming off slow, but as long as Im getting more toned I feel ok about it. Am seriously starting to think about a treadmill though!

livvylouis · 06/04/2010 17:49

Hi all, thanks for joining me!

LostGirl have heard about the 30 day shred, may have a look on amazon for that. I do have a Davina dvd and have got hold of an old Pilates video, gonna try that tonight. I have a small selection of weights and a skipping rope, I may buy a hula hoop if I can remember how to do it .

twinkle i'm gonna exercise when I can fit it in really, may have to get up extra early?? I have 2 dc's and my ds works shifts so I will have to try and fit around that. If i'm not to knackered I may do it in the evening, usually pooped by then tho!

mrswill I would love a treadmill too, but they are a bit pricy plus rather large. I used to be fit, pre motherhood, but nowadays the only exercise I do is running about after the kids.

Well gonna give the Pilates ago tonight, will let you all know how I get on .

Hello!!

I'd love to join you too. My main exercise now is at home, I used to do the gym, but I just find it too time consuming to get my gear on, get there, do the exercise then get home again.

I have 2 exercise dvds, Clare Richards from Steps and Davina 2009. Just bought myself a set of dumbbells as well.

Sometimes I manage to motivate myself to go out for a run. Atm finding even my dvds tricky to fit in as it's the easter hols, but planning to do Davina tomorrow.

livvylouis · 07/04/2010 10:16

Hi all.

Well I put the pilates video on last night, I was really ready to work out hard, only to find out that it is only a starter kit which I have got that shows u only a few moves, it was no longer than 10 mins! Oh well I must have burnt a few calories just pumping up the damn exercise ball!

Went for a 30 min walk with the dog instead, at a very fast pace. Gonna have a look on amazon now for that 30 day shred that everyone is going on about, bit bored of Davina!

xx

That's so annoying about the dvd, I did the same thing with the exercise ball thing I got, thought I was getting a full workout dvd and instead it was a really bad quality 15 minutes showing about 2 exercises, including one which was just sitting on the ball! Found an hour long programme on The Fit Channel on sky which had a really good workout on it instead.

I am weight training tonight, have to wait until the kids are in bed so I have enough space to do it.

30 Day Shred is highly recommended livvy and is gloriously short!

Joby1970 · 07/04/2010 13:29

I've just joined a gym (10 days ago) but I stil also do the 30 Day Shred & absolutely love it - in a love hate sort of way lol. Also bought a kettle bell. Plus Wii fit/ EA Sports Active / More workouts & Biggest Loser game for the Wii.

LostGirl · 07/04/2010 13:31

Are the kettlebell dvds out there?? I would have thought it was quite difficult to get the correct technique without someone showing you. What are the wii fit games like?

Joby1970 · 07/04/2010 13:43

you can look on you tube for kb stuff. there are DVDs but they are quite dear. the wii fit stuff is good. espec EA Sports

livvylouis · 07/04/2010 14:55

Oh I have a Wii, although not the wii fit board. I have the personal trainer game but not so keen on that, like the sound of the biggest loser game tho! I love that show!

OP posts:
Joby1970 · 08/04/2010 08:22

Biggest loser is good - quite a lot of different level to work to - plus has Bob & Jillian's voices from the American show.

GoldenSnitch · 08/04/2010 08:38

Can I join?

I've recently had DC2 and started doing Davina's Post Natal DVD once DD was 3 months old so I've been doing it for about 3 weeks now. She was born by ELCS so I had to be careful with myself for a little while. Was doing really well but have certainly fallen off the wagon the past week. I could do with someone to kick me up the butt and make me do it

Have got Davina's 2009 DVD on the way so I should be able to start something a little more challenging soon. Have looked at the 30 day shred. Is it really that good?

Also like running but am finding it hard to find the time to get out with a 3 year old and a 15 week old who refuses to take a bottle! Meant to run over the Easter weekend but then me and DH got ill

I really need to loose about 2 stone but anything would be a start. We're going on a family holiday at the end of July with DH's super slim sister and I really don't want to look like a beach ball!!

twinkle183 · 08/04/2010 09:06

Whats the biggest loser wii game like...??? I am completely addicted to it...

Am planning on doing Hannah Waterman tonight... she is a bull buster but am loving it...!

Have lost 2lbs already... really chuffed with that result! Only 40lbs to go but at least I am on my way...

Keep up all the good work girlies!

livvylouis · 08/04/2010 09:44

Welcome GoldenSnitch, we would love u to join us the more the merrier.

Looks like everyone is really motivated, lets hope we keep it up.

Did a little work out with the dc's this morning, boogie beebies dvd, I really want them to get involved too. My dd loved it think we may do that every morning just to wake us up.

I found out last night that I have about 3 fitness channels on my sky tv package, had no idea they exsisted! I am goning to set the box to record the programmes that look good and then give them a go when I have time.

Twinkle I hope to lose around 1lb - 2lb a week, we are going away in about 5 weeks so this has given me motivation. If I can lose half a stone by then I will be chuffed, but I need to lose about 1 and half in total so i'm in this for the long run.

Will keep u all posted about the fitness channels and how I get on .

xx

Livvylouis - I love the fact you had no idea the channels existed - really made me laugh out loud.

Twinkle - BL game for the Wii is good. you can do yoga (& its not easy either), core, cardio & there are numerous levels to work at - mostly going thro a number of exercises & then repeating. Some of the harder levels last for 72 mins!

twinkle183 · 08/04/2010 13:51

72 mins... ! not to be a wimp or anything but I struggle with a walk up the stairs at the moment.. but am not determined to get fit and get back to way things were before the babies ruined me!!! lol

Am looking foward to HW dvd tonight am really in the mood to get fit and healthy and to be able to be happy with the way I am! And to undo all the weight gain that I have done to myself...

I know its going to be hard... But I have to keep telling myself I can do it...

where did you get the boogie beebies dvd from and what do they do on it as I have 2 yr that could do with a bit more exercise according to health visitor....!!

livvylouis · 08/04/2010 14:59

Had the boogie beebies for ages think from woolies? I'm sure I have seen some on amazon tho! Or have a look on the cbeebies website, may have something on there.

Joby I made myself laugh, I really do live in my own little world .

Joby1970 · 08/04/2010 16:55

livvylouis · 08/04/2010 21:04

I have been and got the biggest loser game, it's fab!!! Only done the beginers work out 24 mins long but it was good I feel like I have done a good work out.

OP posts:
GoldenSnitch · 09/04/2010 11:38

Ooh, saw something about Zumba near me twinkle. If you think its good, I might join too.

No Wii here so i can't try the biggest loser game.

Might have to try and get a copy of the 30 minute shred DVD though

Joby1970 · 09/04/2010 12:44

Golden - deff get thee 30 day shred - if you want to check it out first I think there is stuff on YouTube

GoldenSnitch · 09/04/2010 21:04

Have ordered it.

mamasunshine · 09/04/2010 23:11

Hi everyone Can I join in please? I bought a Davina box set, power of 3 I think? a few weeks ago, but have only managed to do it once Well, I had a good excuse with lots going on in my family. But now it's all over I can get back to it! I've also ordered the 30min shred. Used my new pedometer today and I've done 12233 steps today v pleased!

I've been thinking about starting running all year. Doing the Buppa training, beginner to 5 km in 8 weeks. So what the hell I'm going to do it next week!! Will go and buy a sports bra and trainers tomorrow!

Will get Davina back on tomorrow, and will even try and fit it in on Sunday!

Is anyone doing an exercise programme, as in making sure you do so much each day etc. Or are you just trying to fit it in as you go?
