And DH has promised to join me. But not until after our big night away without the kids next week. So lots of time to procrastinate plan ahead I've ordered India's book. And have an old copy of Atkins' upstairs.

I will need a sugar substitute I think. And, ahem, fibre. Are linseeds low carb? Can you eat them in induction? And I will need to plan my snackage.

And how to get through the first week or two weeks? What helped you not cave in at the first cravings or headaches? And did I read somewhere you can test your piss? Or is that not strictly necessary?

It's the fresh bread. If you look at the bread section they have 'fresh baked bread, despatched...' and it's that. It is better than I ever imagined. £2.50 per small loaf but worth it IMHO. I will be buying more for sure.

I did really well yesterday, ate low carb and salad all day ... lots of water ... went to my fitness class ... came home and ate:

3 prawn toasts
half a pack of seaweed
4 crispy duck in pancakes with hoi sin sauce.

I DREAD to think of the carbs in that lot! well over 30g anyway.

Quiet annoyed with myself. But, onwards and upwards I suppose ... this morning I've had a prawn and cheese omellete, cup of tea and water.

brimfull · 13/03/2010 20:08

ok girls
I am having a complete blowout this eveing
half pizza
red wine
popcorn

this is so my body will suddenly lose half a stone when I go low carb again
the golower nutritionist actually suggested this method !

gibbberish · 13/03/2010 20:29

Hello. Can I join you? You are all doing brilliantly and I want your determination to rub off!

I have 3st to lose and think low carb is the way to go (have failed miserably at virtually everything else). Am starting tomorrow morning.

I do know low carb works but I find I run out of ideas for meals around the two week mark. I especially struggle at lunchtimes - salad every day in the office becomes a bit boring after a few weeks. Any suggestions for packed lunches? I also found I craved fruit really badly, although I rarely eat it at the best of times! Any ideas on how I can deal with this?

WilfSell · 13/03/2010 20:45

Hi all

Been a bit absent but still doing it. Losing about a lb a week and still stuffing face with nuts and cream (and salad chicken etc). Must do more exercise to speed things up now I think but god knows where I will find the motivation time. Am considering having a day off tomorrow (lots of chocolate and cake and wine likely to be flying around for Mothers' Day) but worried about what impact it will have...

I'm worried about all the books which say it is much harder once you need to get in the zone the second or third time round. And worried if I get the taste for cake, I'll be back in addict central.

IPD says to plan your cheats. Perhaps I will allow myself a small bit of cake or chocolate and then plan to do a bit of power walking later...

Am just a few pounds now off my next stone threshold (IYSWIM - I'll be y stone something pounds, instead of x stone something) and have now lost a stone and a half since January, so doing OK but plodding along. My digestive system is terrible though - the opposite of the usual low carb problem though. No idea what to do about that. does anyone else have that problem (sorry TMI)

I'm another one who has had a bit of a relaxed weekend. Had more wine than I would normlly have and also a few chocs and spoonfulls of other peoples puddings!

The good news is I weigh the same as I did on Friday. The bad news is that the weight is just not coming off fast enough. In fact to be honest I've hardly lost a thing for almost two weeks. If I only had a stone or so to lose this would be fine. But I have at least 4 stone to get rid of.

So as of today I have to go hardcore. No nuts, cheese or cream. I have some of those Avidlite protien packs (similar to Cambridge) that I'm going to have in place of breakfast or lunch. I don't want to count calories but I must be eating far too much as my carbs are always under 20g.

However I'm not too downhearted as I feel much better, both physically and mentally, than I have for a long time.

Enchilada81 · 15/03/2010 09:39

I had a complete carb overload over the weekend. I'm only just back in ketosis so I'm hoping I too will suddenly drop a few lbs when I starve myself of carbs again

OrmRenewed · 15/03/2010 12:40

Well I bailed good and proper yesterday Mum's birthday and I started out with good intentions but ended up eating cake and scones. Then pasta And chocolate....

But I have shaved off my muffin top and can now wear my skinny jeans without having a motorcycle tyre round the top. So I guess job is done. Sorry folks.... Good luck!

Mitchell81 · 15/03/2010 14:09

Well done for the loses and welcome qibberish.

I think most of us must have been bad yesterday. I had a delicious lemon tart and chocolate cream eclairs (although eclairs aren't nearly as bad as the lemon tart.)

Still managed to lose 2lbs by my weigh in day which is a saturday. I am finding that I seem to just snack on low carb things that are in my fridge instead of eating 3 main meals. Although I always have vege and salad with my dinner. I want to do some baking so will go choose something from those websites, maybe bake tomorrow. DH is away for 2 nights this week and then 2 weeks from next week. Although he has started not eating potatoes, pasta etc with his evening meal. I am so looking forward to not cooking big meals as I am happy with just a piece of chicken and salad, so won't need to do veg etc every night.

Hope everyone continues to do well and that weight loss is kick started again for those who have stayed the same for 1 or 2 weeks. I think you are right to cut back on the nuts and extra things to see if you start losing again.

FrazzledBlob · 15/03/2010 14:39

Jacaqueen I came on to post the same. I am starting my fourth week and I am only 12lb down, 10lb lost the first week!

Like you I am trying to hold onto the positives but I also want to know why the weight is not shifting. I have around 4 stone to shift so I thought it would drop of me I still have not cheated once, DH & DD even got me some choc protein powder and a bar of 85% choc (having a square in the evening only)for mothers day!

Being veggie I am not sure about dropping the nuts and cheese. I have started making some flaxbread so hopefully that will help move things along

I also read somewhere over the weekend about making sure you are consuming enough fat and not just extra protein.

Orm at skinny jeans - i still have a monster truck tyre to shift round the middle!

WilfSell · 15/03/2010 19:42

I am now back on the wagon after my one major day off since Jan. I had cake, wine, mahoosive chinese takeaway (complete with crispy duck pancakes, noodles, prawn crackers...)

It was bloody lovely. And I am being very disciplined today. Have no idea when/whether I'm back in ketosis (don't have the sticks...)

I think I probably put a pound on over the weekend, but a pound down on last week.

Good morning all. Can I join you please?

I have 6 stone to lose and I have started and finished so many diets over the last few years that it is ridiculous. 6 years ago I did Atkins fro 3 months and lost almost 2 stone. I have started and stopped it again a few times since but want to give it another go. DH is also overweight and he is keen on Atkins so we start today. A bit of a pain in that we are out for dinner tonight but I am planning on sticking to it.

When I did it successfully before I was using the ediets website which is now Tesco Diets. I am a member there again - was doing low GI so am about to log my weight and change my plan to low-carb.

A few of the tips I remember from last time is to drink loads of water. And magnesium supplements can help with the constipation.

Have had ham and cream cheese roll ups for breakfast. Did have 2 cups of tea with milk as well though.

gibbberish · 16/03/2010 16:47

Thanks Mitchell and well done on the 2lb loss

Well done Orm. Very jealous but extremely pleased for you.

Hello Buda! Just started too so very glad you are joining in. Good tip about the magnesium supplements.

3rd day now and have lost 2lbs already. And forgot about one pleasant side effect of low carbing - my stomach is very much less bloated!

Really enjoying myself this time because am trying to vary my diet and proteins as much as poss. And drinking loads of water too. Also drinking green tea but dont like it much atm Have ordered the cook book that Custy spoke about and a carb counter book. So really mean business this time!

gibbberish · 16/03/2010 19:06

I see we are having our knuckles wrapped in another thread for daring to go low cal.

Sheesh. We get it in the neck for being unhealthy and overweight. Then when we try to do something about it we get it in the neck again (and from people who seem to know zilch about low carb dieting too).

I each MUCH healthier when I am low carbing. I eat tonnes of veg, eat small, regular sized portions, home cook everything and drink gallons of water. Yes, I must really be killing myself in order to lose a few pounds.

Just can't win.
