Hi madamearcadi,
Well done! You must be chuffed.

OP posts:
havoc · 01/01/2010 12:56

Wow madamearcati, well done! I was going to try lowcarb/diabetic diet, but maybe WI is the way to go, I just don't fancy getting weighed in front of people.
I'm still building up the courage to weigh myself, but will do it my the end of the day. I'm trying to round up my lot for a family walk, but no-one seems keen!

PrivetDancer · 01/01/2010 14:38

OMG. I put on 2lbs since yesterday!!! In my defence though, I was still eating and drinking at 4am and weighed myself about 8.30 so reckon it's a slightly false high, but I guess that should mean a big loss this week, hopefully.

so...

starting weight 13 stone 6lbs
initial target 12 stone 7lb (pre preg weight)
ultimate target 10 stone 7lb (wedding weight)

I'm quite cross with myself - had got to 12 7 in the summer but it seems to have dramatically reappeared recently.

So I have started WW today, with just 18 points for the first week as a kick start then will work out how many I should have after that.

havoc - don't worry about the public weigh ins at weight watchers - they are very discreet and the only person who'll know your weight is you and the person weighing you, people don't stand around listening to how much you've lost or anything. It's all done before the meeting itself starts. I'd recommend trying one out, there are heaps of offers around for free joining at the moment.

well done madamearcati!

mummymels · 01/01/2010 16:53

Welcome moodlum.

Dixia - I hope you don?t mind if I post my stats on Monday. I have been weighing on Monday the last few weeks and didn?t weigh last week so will post my stats when I weigh on Monday. I hope this is ok.

Well done madamearcati ? that?s brilliant

PrivetDancer- don?t beat yourself up over it. It happens to us all and before you know it, it will all be off again.

jo1958 · 01/01/2010 17:16

can i join this thread? I've put on so much weight lately, my jeans are so tight i think they might stop my blood flow! I've braved the scales: 11stone 13 1/2 lbs (that half pound under 12 stone means alot to me...) at 5' 7". I want to be 10 1/2 stone so i'm goin back to WW (again) next week but counting my points now. I figure it's cheaper than an entire new wardrobe as have really limited selection of (previously) loose things which fit.

SpikySauce · 01/01/2010 17:17

OK, here I go -

Starting Point as Today

1st Weigh-In: 15 stone (gulp)

Goal Weight: 10 stone

I shall break this down into 7 pound targets though, so my first is to get down to 14.5 stone

My plan is to cut out snacks and sweeks during the week. And go to the gym 3x.

I started a thread the other day about this. I'm worried about going long periods between meals without snacks

havoc · 01/01/2010 19:42

I've plucked up the courage to weigh myself, so here goes:

1st Weigh-In: 13st (I've gained a stone in less than a year)

Goal Weight: 10st7

Like SpikySauce, I think I'll stand more chance if I break it down a bit, so my first target is 12.5 st.

PrivetDancer - Its good to hear that the WW weigh-in is discreet, I was imagining 'Havoc has gained 3 pound' in flashing neon lights!

madamearcati · 01/01/2010 20:10

I do WW online so the weekly weigh in takes place in my bathroom and is very discrete !

Stylelostinlabour · 01/01/2010 21:07

Hi All

OK gulp here goes that's get this diet started:

1st Weight In: 14st 9lbs

Goal Weight: 11st 9lbs

1st Target: 13st 9lbs by end of January

I'm going for cutting out carbs I think and following a low GI diet with lots of walks

The diet plate is a plate the breaks down portion size here's the link:

www.amazon.co.uk/Diet-Plate-Female-Bowl/dp/B000H1LQ0U/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=drugstore &qid=1262379812&sr=8-4

Going to download a couple of apps for my iphone as well tonight one that takes you from walking to running 5K in 9 weeks and one for doing squats etc

Good Luck Everyone

Lotkinsgonecurly · 02/01/2010 07:46

Hi All

Right, now I've stood on scales with no clothes on can now tell you am 17st 12 (dear god), Goal weight 12 stone. First target end of Jan 16 stone.

We'll see how it goes.

Am going to try low carb / gi diet and portion control. Not eating like large lard arse, rather slim girly I used to be.....

Have bike and am going to take dog for long daily walk as soon as kids back at school. What is the Harecombe diet?

Just joined the 2010 weight loss thread but would like to come here too if thats ok. Hello everyone . Right then, first weigh in this morning is 13 stone 13 lbs!!! aaaargghhh. Goal weight 11 stone 7 to 12 stone max. I've eaten so much during December I now am finding it difficult to bend!!

dixia · 02/01/2010 09:27

Hi Stylelostinlabour, thanks for the link to the plate.

Did you know you can also download a pedometer app for the Iphone? It is useful if you are off out for walks or if you carry it in your pocket anyway.

thanks to all for weighing in. If you haven't done so yet, please add your stats when you can. Lets see try to make a good start.

I think that planning it all properly is the key for me. I did a mammoth shopping trek yesterday with a really good list. The sweet things are always my problem, so I made sure that I bought some good-bad things.

I got:

  • really good quality dark chocolate (which i split it up into small chunks and individually wrapped them for an easy and really good chocolate hit.)
  • Alpen light bars
  • lots of fruit
  • light (but sweet) yoghurts
  • reduced fat cheese and laughing cow cheese

I also got some nice teas. Alcohol is a problem for me - not that I am out of control - just that I really enjoy two or three glasses every night. So getting some good alternatives so that I can alternate winey and dry nights will help.

What are other peoples top tips for beating cravings?

OP posts:
Stylelostinlabour · 03/01/2010 11:58

Hi Dixia

My way of beating cravings is just not to have the stuff in the house, so if I fanced something then I'd have to go out and get it, which would mean walking 2.5 miles to the shop, and I figure if I did that then I could have the choc, not that I like choc really.

My main problem is I eat too much when I do eat and somedays I can go all day with no food because of just being really busy with the baby, school runs etc and just run out of time, which isn't good as then I pick at the kids tea and eat anything in sight.

Also my other problem is I dont think I eat much but I have selectiv memory of what goes in my mouth I think! So I'm going to keep a food diary on my Iphone of everything I eat. Two reasons for this, if I dont lose anything and I'm writing it all down then I can go to the doctors with a true list and say look I can't shift it what I'm I doing wrong and secondly I reacon when I do start writing it down I'll reduce what I eat so will lose what if that makes sense?

Regarding the wine I find it harder as DH will come in from work and pour himself one and then me one when I dont want it, but then will drink it anyway so need to have a complete alchol free January I think for both of us.

How's it all going?

havoc · 03/01/2010 16:39

Hi everyone, I hope its going ok!

I've been keeping away from the kitchen - I practically lived in there over Christmas, and was constantly eating. I've also made an effort not to eat the children's left-overs, too. That should help me lose a few pounds, judging by the amount I've had to throw out the last couple of days!

I second a food diary, when I lost weigh before, I kept one on the fridge door, that way I was shamed into eating the right things!

todays dilemma:- I have a quarter of the christmas cake left, and I'm the only one in the house that will eat it. I will have to bin it won't I?

dixia · 03/01/2010 18:35

Hi Havoc - christmas cake keeps for years - so why dont you keep it as a special treat for when you are slim and as a reminder of when you started to take control?

style, have you tried Slimming World? I am doing it and eating loads and loads. There are several things which are lovely which are free (not like weight watchers where only greens are free) - there is really not an excuse to be hungry at all, so very little will power is needed. I have always found that I am quite good up until the evening when I lose my resolve. So SW works well for me as I keep all my syns until the evening, when I use them all on wine and chocolate. I have been doing this for nearly a week now and it is the easiest first week on a new diet I have ever done, and I know I have lost weight too (havent weighed myself in 3 days, but lost 2lb in the first 2 days.)

I guess everyone has to find something that works for them, but this, I think, will be good for me. BTW, I can't get to meetings, so I am doing it online and the website is really good. With the support of people on forums, it is better for me than meetings.

OP posts:
Stylelostinlabour · 03/01/2010 19:02

Hi Dixia

I must be the only person to put weight on with SW! I gained 6lbs in the first week and followed it to the letter, then 2lbs the week after and so on until I'd nearly put on a stone - at which point me and the leader decided it wasn't the diet for me.

Actually I just need to find the opposite of SW and it should drop off me!

Good Luck everyone for the start of the week.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 03/01/2010 19:54

Right, I've had a good day,was sensible with a roast dinner today only had meat and veg and last night had girls night out. But I drove so didn't have any alcohol, no starter no pudding. For me, I am showing some self control.

Also, saw a friend who hadn't seen for a few months, she rushed up to me and asked when I was due and how naughty was I for keeping quiet about the birth of DC3 etc. Had to interrupt her and say I wasn't pregnant...She said 'Are you sure!'

Am feeling motivated if emotionally battered!

dixia · 03/01/2010 21:22

Can't believe that Lotkinsgonecurly!
How rude of her. That happened to me once to - an almost complete stranger - very unnerving and made me feel rubbish for weeks and weeks. Mind you, I'm much bigger now that I was then

Don't worry, in a couple of months, you will be much slimmed down.

Style, can't believe that you put on weight on SW. Do you not eat many sweet things as a matter of course? it is helping me becuase I am not able to snack on chocs and cheese like normal.

OP posts:
PrivetDancer · 03/01/2010 21:23

Wellll, I haven't had the best start, but it could be worse. Was doing WW but got to teatime on new years day and only had about 3 points left and there was too much junk left over from party the night before, so i blew it a bit. Then started well on saturday but went to mils, got stuck in snow behind an accident, got there late starving and we all had chips

However, I'm not too down - on the way to mils I read the harcombe diet book and am starting the five day phase 1 tomorrow. Also been sensible today. So still hopeful for Friday!

The thing that I'm most chuffed with though is that I haven't had a drink since new year's eve and don't plan on having one anytime soon, so it's not all gone to pot.

Well done everyone else though, sounds like you're all doing better than me

lotkins - I hope you don't mind me saying, but your target of nearly 2 stone in a month sounds quite ambitious to me, hope you won't be too down on yourself if you don't hit it.

Right.. back to work tomorrow. sigh. but my brown rice and veg is in the fridge ready for lunch

Lotkinsgonecurly · 03/01/2010 22:23

Privetdancer - 2 stone in one month is a huge target and I really don't expect to reach it but my normal goal would be half a stone and I'll lose a few pounds think I'm nearly there and then just give up. So, thought would give myself and unreachable target which would be something bigger to aim towards rather than reach.

May revise targets tho...

PrivetDancer · 03/01/2010 22:33

you could aim for getting under the 17 barrier? you can't nearly do that - you have to keep going til you actually do

SpikySauce · 04/01/2010 01:11

agree that your current target is a bit loopy, Lotkins

I think you should make it hard, but not ridiculously ambitious!

spookycharlotte121 · 04/01/2010 01:49

heya can I join?

Im starting SW on wednesday.

My current weight is 12st 11!!! Im 5ft 4 so this isnt very good.
I would like to get down to about 10st so need to lose about 3st.

so my first target will be to lose 7lbs which means to get down to 12st 4..... which still seems huge!

Im off on holiday to centre parcs at the end of feb and would really like to have lose 1st by then which is 2lbs a week.

Im going to give this my all. Im tired of being fat and frumpy. I want to be sexy again.

dinkystinky · 04/01/2010 08:58

Hi - I'd like to join too if that's ok. Am 11 stone 4 lbs and target is 10 stone 4lbs. Am going to make a concerted effort with exercise this month to start getting the weight shifted as I got down to 10 stone 7lbs last September (at end of maternity leave) then put all the bloody weight back on again when I started back at work and stopped walking everywhere all day...
