Here we are, thanks Cyteen for the excellent title although it's slightly false advertising on my part

I actually don't know Belfast that well, which is shocking as it's only 2 hours up the road, more or less, but I do know that the Fitzwilliam Hotel has just opened up there. They already have one in Dublin and I stayed there for a night with some friends in November. It was nice - not a special hotel though, if that's what you're looking for. I've never stayed in the Europa but I think it is the largest hotel in NI? Anyway the Fitzwilliam is here if you want to nosy about. The chef is Kevin Thornton of Thornton's in Dublin.

Now it's only 40 quid per person but in June I'm sure it's three times that.

Well done on swimming Sazz and NOW... da da da...

I have run 9K in 57mins. I installed my mum & ds1 in the cafe, ds2 in the creche, and hopped on the treadmill. At 2.5K ds1 hoved into view and I thought oh God something's happened and leapt off, heart pounding. He said "I am having a chocolate croissant" and I said I am very happy for you and hopped back on. Then at 8.5K he hoved again saying they were ready to go! So though I was a bit frustrated as I felt could have finished to 10, I ran the extra half to 9. Tis my personal best though still not as good as Sazz .

Sorry dd is problematic re lessons. If she really loathes them is it possible for her to give up? Or is it like ds1 and baths, hates the idea then adores the reality?

dizzydixies · 04/01/2010 18:03

VG I thought you knew everywhere being so wordly wise, windswept and interesting

well done on the running [impressed emoticon]

HotterTheRedNosedReindeer · 04/01/2010 18:09

Lovely to have you back VG, and very well done on the running

I am a fizzy water girl and can down many pints of it, cold or tepid, but most definitely not warm. Have been doing badly today though, a weird dizzy spell this morning encouraged me to eat 3 chocolates then the nicotine withdrawal after smoking one or two funny cigarettes nearly every day () has had me picking at allsorts

Oh well, tree down today so normal life begins again tomorrow

dizzydixies · 04/01/2010 18:09

looks very nice thank you shall hunt through the discount hotel websites and see what I can come up with - its midweek 2 nights not during school holidays so fingers crossed we'll get it at a reasonable rate

oopsandbabycoconut · 04/01/2010 18:35

Dizzy - Booking.com have the Fitzwilliam at about £85 a night for 2 in early June here We used them to book our night away and had no problems.

I saw that oops thank you, am also sniffing about the Merchant but its a touch pricer for the old credit card to cope with

we're still on holiday here tomorrow tomorrow

Sazz at the age DD1 is at the most important thing for them is to be confident in the water which sounds exactly what she has, it'll all fall into place soon enough, esp when you take her swimming as often as you do

VG Peterborough is not that far away from Leicester

TwilightSurfer · 04/01/2010 20:05

QUESTION: Treadmill...as good as a street run, not as good as a street run, no preference?

DH has requested one. Just wondering if it would get use.

Still haven't stepped foot outside in my new runners. Giving myself till this weekend since the girls aren't back at school yet (which means I have no one to watch them.)

Keeping Sazz's & VG's times in my head as goal markers.

Oh and I can't drink plain old warm water either but room temp is usually perfect for me, not too hot...not too cold.

TwilightSurfer · 04/01/2010 20:06

Can vouch for MidiSazzles water confidence. She has fish DNA!

Sazz - the best running shoes I ever bought were Brookes and I didn't have any knee or ankle pain with them. There is a very lovely running shoe shop in Bath who fits shoes according to how your feet move when you run on their magic plate and any previous injurys but I discovered that good shoes don't come cheap but are worth the investment if you are going to run alot.

Had maybe half an ExerSazz today - dragged DD round on the sledge for a bit then been hauling an overloaded trolley round Asda. Nicotine cravings still strong but managed to avoid the pastries at the supermarket so some progress

I prefer a treadmill because I am so dependent on knowing exactly where I am - if I can just keep going another 0.5K that'll be 6, or whatever. It's also more structured for me at the gym as I have to book ds2 in to the creche, etc, and am then committed, whereas if I was running from home it would be easier to say oh go on then I'll have a cup of tea instead. But the experience of running outside is nicer, and more refreshing.

I wouldn't use me as a marker for anything but I think 10K under an hour is generally considered respectable speedwise, and being able to keep going for an hour even if only covering 3K is pretty good cardiowise.

Must consult map as didn't realise Leicester was nr Peterborough but am delighted to hear it is and will deffo do utmost for a minimeet cyteenwards if our trip comes off.

Loving the water but preferring to mess about is infinitely preferable to fear / discomfort in water imo. Though clearly frustrating!

lwfhthevampireslayer · 05/01/2010 11:19

OK.

Hello everyone. Can I join, please?

10 1/4 stone before DS
11 stone before DD
now 11 3/4

167cm tall.

I would like to be back to 10 1/2 by July 2010 if this is possible as we have a trip back to the UK planned and I can go clothes shopping again (not many clothes at the moment, my shape has gone all funny over the past few years so it'll be nice to get some nice new clothes). We may have more children, but not just yet.

Opportunities for exercie:

Mainly limited to walking with the buggy.

Main issue:

Stopping at corner shops to buy chocolate and biscuits while walking with the buggy

Other issues which need addressing (not really relating to weight loss, but as I am writing a list):

Thank you letters need writing and something ought to be done about DS's sleep.

Any advice?

luckoftheirish · 05/01/2010 12:27

LWFM.. no advice on the sleep i'm afraid.. having massive issues with dd1 who is 4.. thankfully dd2 seems to have the knack of sleeping at night tho not in the day ...

went to body balance this am horray.. however was booked in for the next two classes but the feckin snow put a stopper on that.. so have had officially 1 1/2 hours of child free time since before xmas ...

still lugging away at the water (with a dash of juice).....

hopefully i will be back at the gym tom!!

TwilightSurfer · 05/01/2010 13:07

Thanks for the treadmill information. Sazzles DH would use the treadmill at our former gym fairly regularly. I do think it's my prodding that has him trying to find something/anything that will help. He was happy to show me a newer pair of pants were sliding off over the weekend. This is good. He says it must be from steering clear of heavy meals late. Our ideas of "heavy" are obviously different.

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 15:22

LWFH - you and I are the same height, I'm 168cm, and I'm AIMING for the weight you are now

dizzydixies · 05/01/2010 15:22

oh and welcome aboard Hots and Sazz are an inspiration and I'm tagging along
