I need to do this, bad timing with christmas a few weeks away (I'm a sucker for a mince oie & cream) but I was in the bath a few days ago just lazing about and putting somebodywash on a sponge when I looked to the door, which was ajar, to see DH peeping in (NOT in a pervy way! just checking in on me) I was mortified, I burst into tears and sobbed for about 10 minutes.

My husband seeing me naked should not provoke such a reaction should it?

Time to slim down I think I also found a lovely pic of me when I was a size 12 and look so happy.

So what did it for you?

Oh gawd, I don't have a moment as such just a constant realisation that all my clothes are too tight and muffin top could dislodge and set up own branch to rival starbucks. Tis very depressing. Really wouldn't advise starting diet now - too many opportunities to fail before you even begin. Just try to be sensible now and not put on any more before Christmas. I have friend lined up and we are starting together after Christmas - bet there will be loads of supportive mumsnet threads too. Good luck!

StrawberriesandCherries · 29/11/2009 20:09

When two friends saw dh in the street and said they had heard our good news -that i was pregnant, a mutual friend had seen us recently and told them - sadly I am not, it's just fat

Started Slimming World the next week!!

RainDropsPlop · 29/11/2009 20:15

One day, I realised just how much time I spent thinking about my weight and how much I hate my body. I then thought if I put that much thought and effort into actually losing weight I would be a lot happier.

So I joined slimming world, which has been a revelation to me. I am not dieting, I am eating healthy normal food with no calorie counting. I really would recommend it.

We also had to sell our car so I'm walking everywhere and that is really helping to improve my fitness.

I have lost 2 stone in 12 weeks, dropped two jean sizes and feel so much better. Only a third of a way there, but in a much better position than I was 12 weeks ago.

I agree that Christmas is not the best time to start though

Good Luck!

addictedtolatte · 29/11/2009 20:25

when my friend nudged me when she was drunk and asked when i was going to let her know about my pregnancy, only i wasnt pregnant just overwieght .i was mortified and so was she.

wickedwitchofwaterloo · 29/11/2009 22:06

Valentines Day this year, I wanted to buy a little sweater dress for dinner with my DP, so I took myself off to Dorothy Perkins to try one on that I'd seen online, biggest size they had was an 18 which I assumed would fit me... it didn't, in the most spectacular way possible, I looked in the mirror, burst into tears and realised, with disgust, just how huge I had become, it was almost like I didn't know before - I ended up having to buy a size 24 dress and at this point, I squeezed into size 28 jeans

I joined weight watchers on March 20th and to date, I've lost 5st and am sitting here in my size 16 skinny jeans

I have another 2st 5lb to goal x

Wow these are fantastically encouraging stories!

well done!!

WWOW wow, that must have been a hard moment. I hate clothes shopping I like youdiddn't really realise my size, when I saw an item online I would picture myself looking like the model in it obviously when it gets her its a huge dissapointment and a big blow!

DH is going to help me after Christmas to sort this out.

I lost weight pretty easily after DS2 was born, well he was quite old, but once I decided to do it it just fell off.

I remember buying a size 1 dress and it felt great

When I got pegnant with DD I actually had a few 'oh no... and after you lost all that weight too!' comments!

I don't have one moment but I think just generally when I see pictures of myself and also trying on new clothes and kidding myself that I can wear smaller sizes than I really can.

wickedwitchofwaterloo - that weight loss is brilliant.

ConstantlyWritingThankYouCards · 30/11/2009 23:10

Realising only one pair of trousers fit me and even they were a strain over my considerable arse. Rang Cam Diet Counsellor that eve and lost just under 2 stone in 6 weeks. Amazing - feel fab and so pleased I did it.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 30/11/2009 23:17

Some twat asked me how many weeks pregnant I was when I was 8 and a half stone and a size 8

I occasionally think about losing weight but don't really want to enough to do it - so i guess I'm just waiting for that magic moment when I shift it to the top of the priority list

mummymels · 01/12/2009 22:45

That's brilliant ConstantlyWritingThankYouCards.

Lauriefairyonthefreeeatscake - there are some funny people out there asking you that.

Last0rders · 01/12/2009 22:49

When my bum created a mini flood defence barrier when I let the plug out the bath

I had to get out to empty the rest of the water!

Still haven't done anything about it though

mummymels · 01/12/2009 22:50

Sorry LastOrders but that did make me laugh.

Last0rders · 01/12/2009 22:54

It makes me laugh too!

And I'm the one with the arse!

mummymels · 01/12/2009 22:55

Lol it's good to be able to laugh about it. I have to laugh at myself too.

displayuntilbestbefore · 01/12/2009 22:55

not as amusing as some of the other posts, but what kicked my backside into doing something was when I woke in the early hours one morning with crushing chest pain and thought I was having a heart attack, As it happens, it was gallstones, but it frightened the hell out of me! Now 2 stone lighter and regardless of the fact that I thought I was happy enough before I lost the weight, I can definitely say I am a lot happier now I am lighter and have probably added a couple of years to my life with reducing cholesterol etc.
Definitely something worth doing for the sake of my kids if nothing else!
The health aspects were my incentive (but the sex is better now I'm lighter too! )

Last0rders · 01/12/2009 22:58

If I was that bothered about it I'd do something, but I'm happy enough.

Anyway, it straightens out once I stand upright!

MissMoopy · 01/12/2009 22:58

I have about 5 stone to lose and am hugely - and huge! - daunted by it! Joining Slimming World AFTER Xmas and really going to go for it this time. Thanks for encouraging stories x

MedusaHead · 01/12/2009 23:01

I realised I had to lose weight when my I looked in the mirror and realised that my stomach stuck out further than my boobs .

It made me realise it.....now I've just got to do something about it. That's the hard part but well done to all you that have lost weight. I am hoping for inspiration come the new year.

mummymels · 01/12/2009 23:09

You are funny last orders.

displayuntilbestbefore - that must have been really scary but great news you have ended up healthier for it. Out of bad comes good sometimes.

missmoopy - that is exactly how I felt. I still have a long way to go but it is really satisfying when the weight starts coming off. Good luck with slimming world after xmas.

Good luck medusahead with whichever diet you decide it best for you.

spookycharlotte121 · 02/12/2009 22:26

I feel horrible when i look at pics of myself so I have decided Im going to start slimming world next wednesday.
Im 22 next month and my friends and I are supposed to be going out and I want to look good for the night.... admittedly I will have only lost a bit of weight by then but Im adiment that I am going to lose weight.

the way i look really depresses me..... like someone else yesterday when i was with my personal trainer I realised my tummy sagged down further than my boobs.

Im gross but Im trying to stay positive.

I have 3 stone to lose.

rockcakebottom · 03/12/2009 09:48

Last night DH tried and failed to have sex with me. It happened last week too. Seems I am too fat for him to find attractive

I'm 12st 3, but only 5'4. Had c-section 2 years ago, lost a stone and a half low-carbing but have put it all back on again. Now when I jump my tummy is a beat behind. I am fatter than I've ever been and disgust myself when I look in the mirror or at photos.

We are TTC and have been for over a year. But I'm never going to get pg if my husband doesn't fancy me.

So, as I type this through my tears and with my self-esteem in the toilet, I realise I have to lose some weight - at least 2 stone, preferably 2.5.

(PS am a regular but have name-changed for this post)
