Doing OK today, trying to remember about only eating when you're hungry. I know the crunch will come in a couple of hours when 3 littlies are in bed, I'm knackered, DH has gone off for a game of cricket, I've got loads to do & will start grazing rather than sitting down and eating a proper meal. Usually eat with kids when I'm on my own but didn't manage to tonight so am going to try really really hard...watch this space!

Btw, Pilates is great because there's no sweaty stuff involved and there's no sense of embarressment at having to stop to catch your breath and wipe the rivers of sweat from your eyes while all around you are gently glowing and breathing normally like with aerobics!

I know it's necessary to do some out-of-breathy stuff too, but it's a good start and it does make you stand up straight and hold yourself properly so you look a bit thinner!

Shellseeker · 01/07/2009 21:00

Well now...am feeling QUITE pleased with myself! I didn't graze & I did cook myself a lovely bowl of pasta with some homemade sauce and a bit of cheese, & then I had some fruit. (and a Penguin biscuit, but hey! Just the one!) No grazing. No snacking. Hoorah!

What helped was writing a list of things I'd like to look good for (holiday, niece's christening etc) and sticking it on the fridge - it focussed my willpower a bit more than just generally thinking that I wanted to lose weight.

VelvetCushions · 01/07/2009 21:07

Well done Shellseeker! You should be very proud!
I am pleased with myself today too. I managed to stay within my calories even though I went to a friends and she had cakes and tea. I had 1 mini choc brownie which, I think, are around 100cals each

VelvetCushions · 01/07/2009 21:09

Thanks for the tips passionfruity and tatt. I will be putting them to use. Need all the help/support/tips/nags/kicks I can get.

Shellseeker · 01/07/2009 21:25

Fab, VC. We'll get into those size whatever you're aiming for jeans yet!

VelvetCushions · 02/07/2009 07:59

I feel very motivated at the moment.

I was brave enough to weigh myself this morning. The scales said I was 10.13. I think I'll weigh in every Thursday morning.

DidEinsteinsMum · 02/07/2009 10:58

Hello all....

Congrates to you all for all your progress.
I have made progess - that bottle of coke is still intact. its now sitting on the side so i have to have slightly more will power to keep walking past it. And amazingly i have so much more engery to do stuff since i kicked the diet coke habbit . Over the last two days i have painted my room, rearranged the bedroom furniture and made progress on the spring cleaning that has been defeating me. I wouldn't say i am sleeping better but i think that might be heat linked at mo. My moods are more stable and i am feeling much more positive.

Today i am having some down time to just be as it is too hot to do anything active. The heat has been good for my diet as well and have found the more veg i eat the more energy and less hungry i feel. Althought the icecream/ice lollies call is hard to resist at the moment . Need to get paddling pool out and go stand in instead, or arm ds with water pistols for a water fight later.

There really are some good tips in here now. And the inclusion of them seem to be increasing our ability to achieve our goals. I really like the thought change one - i really need to focus on making sure i get all the nutrients i need rather then concentrate on what i cant have. Maybe i will eventually stop scaring. Does anyone know if soya milk works in the same way as skimmed milk? Dairy dont live here anymore

VelvetCushions · 02/07/2009 11:45

Dideinsteinsmum I know I don't know you personally, but I feel really genuinely pleased that you've kicked the coke habit
Huge well done!
and also well done on all the cleaning etc.
I have so much stuff to do but have been particularly lethargic and lazy today.

I'm sure soya milk works in the same way as milk.

Niecie · 03/07/2009 14:10

DidEinsteinsmum - can I also echo what Velvetcushion said and say well done for kicking the coke habit. If not an ounce is lost as a result of this thread (and hopefully it has been/will be) your control of the coke consumption has been a success and really a big part of your original OP. I hope you are feeling much better for it - it sounds like you are.

How is everybody doing at the moment?

Personally I am glad that the weather has cooled down although I always feel, in hot weather, you can almost feel the weight dropping off, along with the sweat. I certainly don't have much of an appetite and have had a lot of salad in recent days.

Haven't tested this theory out by stepping on the scales recently though.

DidEinsteinsMum · 03/07/2009 18:02

The coke bottle is still there but i am struggling to find the will to live and be bothered to do anything this end of the week. It is currently calling me because i know exctly how much work i need to get done tonight and this weekend. And just discovered remembered that i have a eca due in 3 weeks and not looked at anything for 2 weeks . Going to have to discover the fan i think.

Turns computer off to get some tea cooked finally. its been i can't be ar... day

toomanystuffedbears · 03/07/2009 18:04

DidEinsteinsMom-congratulations on your significant victory! (TMSB now wondering if she should track how much diet soda she is actually consuming via 12oz cans. )

I am pruning trees and feel like I am getting adequate exercise, especially how tired my muscles have felt the past couple of days. I hope to be done by Sunday. Then get a fence estimate next week. More exercise: I am snipping the branches in pieces and bagging them for the city to cart away with the "lawn debris". DH made a pile and we called the city, they wanted $30 to pick it up; ok-so I paid; then it took 9 days for them to pick up (I had to call and fuss).

Back on track-doing well.

Niecie-I know what you mean about the sweat. I have never minded working up a sweat and it feels good-and the the follow up shower is an extra feel good bonus.

VelvetCushions · 03/07/2009 18:29

Is anybody else going to weigh themselves?

I have been ok today. I haven't gone over my cals but haven't had dinner yet. Dh is going to pick something up on his way home. Either waitrose or that M&S meal for 2 if they're still doing it.
I may end up going over my allowance but I'll just cut back tomorrow.

I want it to cool down too. I was really looking forward to that thunderstorm that never happened!

I prefer weather that I can wear jeans in as skirts are not a good look for me and I don't have any other trousers (that would mean trying to coordinate tops and spend money on a size that I know I'm not meant to be!)

Shellseeker · 03/07/2009 21:52

Scales? NOOOOOOO! I have a real scale-phobia, caused I think by the fact that we used to be weighed at school every term - why I don't know.
For some reason, the scales were at one end of the gym and the teacher with the pen & paper was at the other, resulting in your weight being shouted down the gym in front of everyone.
As a result, I HATE scales, so I go by the notches on my belt (am on last on in and need to punch another so am doing OK!

DidEinsteinsMum · 04/07/2009 00:53

the coke bottle has been opened.
its only missing one glass (smaller then half pint bigger then little about average size). And i finally got some work done before losing time in here again. maybe a self imposed computer ban will work?

VelvetCushions · 04/07/2009 13:13

DIdeinsteinsmum don't feel too bad. I think you're doing brilliantly. It would have been hard to just bin that bottle. At least you knownow you can function without it. Maybe you can try not buying any more? Or just a can for an urgent emergency?

Shellseeker thats awful about your school. I can't believe they would do that. I don't blame you for fearing the scales now.

I feel like I destroyed all the good work last week in one sitting last night.

Dh ended up buying a large pizza, garlic bread and crisps. Men. I was so starving by the time he got back (late) I just ate loads of it. Moral of the story - never trust dh to get anything decent for a weekday dinner. Grrr. Am so angry with myself. I swear I must have had about 3000 cals.

I'm trying to undo some of the damage today.

VelvetCushions · 04/07/2009 13:25

I bravely updated food focus for my cals yesterday and ended up eating about 1200 over. Its not as bad as I thought but its a whole days worth of food in one sitting

Niecie · 04/07/2009 20:32

Don't feel too bad Velvet.

We have been out at Legoland with friends all day - haven't been shopping, can't face cooking and have ended up with fish and chips from the chippie.

Still if my feet are anything to go by I got loads and loads of exercise. My feet are killing me!

DidEinsteinsMum · 04/07/2009 20:44

Yep don't worry velvet - i did the pizza thing yesterday and remaining coke with one chocolate bar today. Now is gone i can will have to survive without it as not buying anymore. Ds made tea today - he was so proud bless him. So should really go eat some but not really feeling hungry at mo Later at peak picking time .

I think that i am going to have to head over to a calorie calculator at some point. as i have no idea what i am eating calorie wise at mo. Actually i dread to think .

Niecie - its an S day you are allowed a little cheat like fish and chips

VelvetCushions · 04/07/2009 21:15

A cal counter definitely puts things into perspective. I can't believe how little I need to eat to lose weight. No wonder I was getting so fat.
When you log in after every meal, its good to see how many cals you have left for the day so you plan your meals better. You start making better choices and eating more salad, fruit and veg to save caolories. I would recommend it.

Niecie Legoland is on my 'to do' list for this summer. Did you have a good time?
And, yes, dideinsteinsmum is right, its an S day so no probs. I think I'll treat yesterday as an S day.

Niecie · 04/07/2009 23:38

Legoland was great. This our 3rd visit. It is really a kids place (I wouldn't go without them) but there is loads to do.

It is also a really bad place for queuing. Waiting 30mins plus for a 5 minute ride/attraction is normal. You have decided what you really want to do before you get there I suppose. There is a map on the website and it pays to plan a route as it is quite hilly - you don't want to be going up and down the hills all day.

I wouldn't have gone if it had been as hot as Thursday and I wouldn't go if it was rainy as it is mostly out doors - very little indoors stuff worth doing.

My boys are 5 and 8 (just - nearly 6 and 9) and liked the Pharoahs and Vikings (got soaked) activities best plus Miniland where all the model towns and villages are which is my favourite.

If you have little ones who like Duplo there are lots of water fountains and squirty things in Duploworld which warrant a swimming cossie.

Make sure you book on-line if you go as you get 10% off (would have been £120 for 4 of us at the gate). We used Nectar points and I think you can use Tesco vouchers too. There are other offers around - friends had a 2 for 1 voucher from somewhere. You shouldn't ever have to pay full gate price if you keep an eye open for a deal.

Food and drink also pricey - take a pack lunch! Queues are bad for food too.

Ankles are still aching - I don't think my sandals were sufficiently supportive for an all day trek.

Oh sorry - I seem to have gone on a bit! This probably not the place for a review but it can be a frustrating place if you pay a fortune and the can't see much as you have to spend most of the day queuing, so better to be forewarned I think!

Hope I haven't put you off - if is great fun.

VelvetCushions · 06/07/2009 21:11

Thanks Niecie. It sounds really good. Mine are nearly 2 and 4 so I think they'll enjoy it. Mind you, they would enjoy a trip to the dump, they love to be out
I'll def look out for deals. I think lastminute sometimes have deals too. I'll definitely be taking a packed lunch. Ds2 has multiple allergies so we always take food for him. The only thing he can eat out is chips, usually.

Not a bad food day today. How are you all doing?

toomanystuffedbears · 06/07/2009 21:58

OK, haven't lost anything but haven't gained either.

I am going to start wearing my pedometer again and do 10,000 steps a day. I am up to 4200 now so will take an evening walk.

Niecie · 07/07/2009 10:15

Velvet - I think 2 yr olds are free which saves you £20 straight off!

Doing OK this week.

Still not getting enough sleep though.

Why do I feel this compulsion to stay up so late? It is madness and I am sure I am completely sabotaging myself because then I need sugar/fat/carbs to get through the day.

VelvetCushions · 08/07/2009 07:52

I know what you mean Niecie.I stay up too late too.
By the time the kids go to bed and I've cleared up, its almost 9. I like to sit down and watch tv. I usually end up watcing a film and stay up til its finished!
I've got used to not eating at that time now, though! Thats a major achievemant for me as having some munchies was part of my wind down.

Niecie · 08/07/2009 09:36

Hi Velvet - Evenings are bad aren't they?!

I have good evenings and bad evenings now, whereas they were all bad a month ago which is an improvement. I had nothing last night but didn't have a great night as DS2 wet the bed and ended up in the spare bed with me (too lazy to change the bed in the middle of the night and anyway, he usually manages to soak the duvet too).

He then managed to wake me up 30 minutes early by coughing in my face - nice. I couldn't get him to wake up when the time came to get up. I could have done with those extra 30 minutes too!!

Never mind. Busy day today so will try and forget about sleep and food!
