HALF A STONE TO LOSE-aaaaaargh

FreakGeek · 03/04/2009 14:50

So DS is 8 mths old and they say it takes 9 months to gain the weight and 9mths to lose it- am the same weight since when he was 8 weeks and cannot shift the last half a stone. Am 5 ft 3 so weighing 60kg is alot for me- just want to be able to get back into my Size 10-12 jeans (Marks and Spencers' generous sizing) and lovely pre-preg dresses. Admittedly, finish off all his avocado mush etc.

Anyone want to join me- weigh in on monday and motivation, tips etc ? Have yo-yo dieted since 12 years old so know calorie content inside out, but now just ignore it and basically eat whatever i want, whilst thinking that i really shouldnt and believeing that "tomorrow I'll start"

FfreckleFface · 03/04/2009 14:52

I'm in! I'm looking to get rid of at least a stone though.

2bayumimum · 03/04/2009 15:33

Count me in too. Im back at my pre-preg weight, but that wasnt my ideal weight, so plan on loosing another 18lbs to be at my optimum ! And want to do that my end of May...

Nam10 · 03/04/2009 15:56

This seems to be working for me. My DS is 6m old (ish). I pigged out seriously while preggo.

  1. Power walk with pram for 2 hrs a day
  2. Pump EVEN IF also breastfeeding...burns hell of a lot of calories
  3. Get a new hair do...the confidence i got was instant and makes me wanna eat well.
  4. Start/continue having crazy sex with hubby

I'm losing a pound a week easy.
Wanna be a sexy summer bunny....

FreakGeek · 03/04/2009 18:04

NAM 10- i did the haircut and went from "down to my bum hair" to bob- and now i look like every other hassled mum ! As for sex with hubby-it happpens but it aint energetic- cant tell if you're being serious or taking the p*
I keep forgetting to drink water and eat slowly

OP posts:
Nam10 · 04/04/2009 13:04

Totally serious. Good effort FGeek. Now try No 1 and No 2 ( no pun intended ).

ducdo · 05/04/2009 14:21

I'm in please ) My youngest turned 2 last week and I would love to be back to pre-pregnancy size but I just can't see it happening. Wearing size 14 and weigh 10 stone 8 and only 5ft 2 so need to get under 10stone, that would be brill. Hopefully with your help I will get there x

ducdo · 06/04/2009 19:00

So, first weigh in. I am 10 stone 8 this morning and not had a great day. Off work looking after kids on 1st day of school hols so had a few of their leftovers (know I shouldn't) and bag of popcorn. Will do better tomorrow as in the office so less chance to snack and be naughty. Also plan a run tomorrow night (if hubby home on time) so watch this space. Good luck all.

Dilettante · 07/04/2009 11:56

FreakGeek - are you BF? If so, don't be too hard on yourself...I didn't manage to lose the last bit until I stopped BF, then it dropped off naturally in a few weeks. It was like my body was stubbornly holding onto it just in case it was needed.

ducdo · 09/04/2009 19:29

All going OK so far, had a busy day today playing with the kids so hopefully that's burned a few calories. Went for a 3 mile run Tuesday night and plan another one in the morning before I eat loads of easter eggs over the weekend!
Looks like I'm alone in this one as no one else has written on here in a while, but it may still work!

ducdo · 11/04/2009 21:25

Really getting into my running, did another run Friday morning and up again this morning - in the rain - for another 3 mile run. Will have a rest tomorrow for Easter Sunday lay in (well if thats possible with 3 kids) then plan another run Bank Hol Monday.
If anyone else has started trying to lose weight, hope you doing OK, although wondering why no one has been adding notes to say how they're getting on ....

ducdo · 14/04/2009 12:15

Still the only one on this posting then... very strange.... forgot to weigh myself yesterday and was shocked to do so today and found I haven't lost one single pound. Oh well, must have gained some muscle with all the running I've been doing.
Better luck next week

FreakGeek · 14/04/2009 15:37

Hallo- was away for a week of sinful eating and plenty of plonk...so no weight loss yet. Starting "properly" now. Run today, power walk tomorrow and most importantly eat slowly and drink more- had energetic sex last night (twice !!- gotta be a record) but maybe its cos we had watched the Bond on DVD a few hrs earlier and its like soft-porn for men- the girls and cars ...Hair looks DREADFUL- wish i'd never cut it- was looking like (a fatter) Penelope Cruz previously, but minus the hair-entourage- Now I look like a triangle-head. My Gwyneth Paltrow bob does NOT suit me...oh well, never mind. Any sucesses anyone ? - this thread itself is giving new meaning to my existence

can i join you? i'd like to lose half a stone and need to get motivated. i've had three miscarriages since last summer and all the ups and downs of the failed pregnancies, plus all the comfort eating each time it's all gone wrong, has really messed about with my weight. it's not a disaster by any means but i do feel flabby and i've never seen my bum look so big Plus easter has really not helped - the amount of chocolate lying around the house is ridiculous and i keep picking at it.
shall we set ourselves a target date by which to have lost 7lb or is that too hard?
really sympathise with the hair disaster, by the way. i hate my hair most of the time and there's nothing worse than a cut you don't like..im trying to grow out some layers and it's taking forever, and is not at a good stage at the moment. the mega humidity in London just now is totally not helping as my hair just frizzes right up. mostly hair looks much better two or three weeks after a cut so don't lose heart.

ducdo · 16/04/2009 18:28

yeh, glad you're still here freakgeek .. thought everyone had disappeared and great to have kissmummy join too .. more the merrier.
not the easiest to try and shed some weight with house full of chocolate I agree. wondering whether the kids will notice if their supply reduces slowly as I bin in as if it stays in the cupboard I do not have the willpower to keep away from it and will eat the lot!
I think a weight loss of 1-2 lbs per week is good starting point so could aim for that. Now I know there is definitely others on this link I will try harder and hope for atleast 1 pound off by Monday. Good luck all x

lilianfox · 16/04/2009 23:31

Hi

I would love to join you all. I have just been reading your posts as I am looking for inspiration. Freakgeek i also want to lose about 1/2 stone. I am about 5.4 and weigh 9.8 at the moment (well I did before I went on hols about a week ago) approx 62 kg i think. I really must get down to about 9 stone in the first instance and maybe a few more pounds etc.

Ducdo I want to do some exercise too. Went to gym this eve for first time in ages. I have a prob with my left knee while doing x trainer etc and am thinking of swimming but not sure how good that it for cardio. How are you finding your running? HOw long do you run for at a time? my dd is 2 years and a few months and i'm trying to find time which fits in with dh schedule so i can exercise too.

kissmummy are you still thinking about setting a target date? I have been trying to get rid of this last 1/2 stone for such a long time that maybe that could help?

lilianfox · 16/04/2009 23:33

BTW my habit is snacking in the eve. So I am going to cut that out starting tomorrow so hopefully i can join weigh in monday and maybe lose a little bit by then?!

ducdo · 17/04/2009 09:40

lilianfox you will def be inspiration for me as if I can get anywhere near your current weight I will be a happy bunny.

If you have a bad knee I would guess running would aggravate it but swimming is great if you can go regularly.

I love the running as I can go anytime and it's free and a great de-stress. Have the ipod on low volume (safety reasons more than anything) and off I go .. Warm up and cool for 5 mins and running for atleast 25-30 mins and I can cover about 3-4 miles in that time. I am not a fast runner by any means and look like a completely sweaty tomato face 10 mins in but I don't care and I feel great by the end so its definitely worth it.

I am OK sticking to the exercise .. its the food that my problem as I don't have any willpower when home .. finish off kids meals, snack on crisps, the odd biscuit and wine in the evenings. Even as I'm writing it down it's sounding really bad.

Joined W/W and Slimming World in the past and found writing down everythng I eat a real help as made me question everything before I ate it to see was I really hungry and as I was having to write it down it was stopping me from eating the next snack.

Will try to get atleast 2 runs in between now and weigh in on Monday and maybe lay off the wine?!

lilianfox · 17/04/2009 17:51

Hi there

Oh dear ducdo i actually weighed myself this am and I am 9.11 stone so I put on 3 lbs over the easter.Although some of that could conceivably be water etc but it's made me more determined than ever!

I hope you're having a good day. How's it going? Sounds like you do really well with the exercise 25-30 mins is great. I am exactly the same with snacking and often eat my dd left overs. Today I have had a good day so far with no snacking. I also joined ww on line and had some initial success but found I lacked motivation to stick to it. But I agree that it definately helps to write things down to keep track of it etc

today i've been to gym this am and knee isn't hurting so hopefully i will be able to build this into the week.

wish me luck this eve as i am going to go cold turkey on the snacking and not eat anything after my evening meal.

Hope weekend goes well.

ducdo · 17/04/2009 20:20

sounds like you've had a good day, well done you.

I have had no snacks today, no bikkies with my tea and more importantly did not tuck into kids leftovers and just sniffed it instead!!

Just finished a skinny cow mint choc lolly which is my pudding after evening meal and went down a treat.

I've decided to do slimming world as worked for me before and I like the fact you can eat as much as you want - within reason and as long as its the right foods ) - which should suit me. However, not joining a local group or online .. managed to get all the literature emailed to me for the costly sum of £1.80 from someone on ebay. It's in pdf and word format but that's fine so will print it all off and get started.

Enjoy your weekend and keep up the good start ... roll on Monday weigh in!

lilianfox · 18/04/2009 09:08

Hi there

good on you for having no snacks yesterday!! The skinny cow lolly sounds lovely. Do you know how many cals in one? May get some for a treat after meal etc

no snacking for me either last night. It was actually ok. But I had really made up my mind but I didn't feel starving or anything as I usually do. Perhaps it was because I was determined? How about you? Did you find you felt hungry in between?

I tried a different breakfast: I had baked beans (weightwatchers) and wholemeal toast)instead of cereal and ss milk. I read that it makes you feel fuller longer and not as hungry.

I found brilliant website: don't know whether you know it already but I saw a link on a mumsnet post: it's

www.foodfocus.co.uk/home.php

you can record all food you eat and your weight loss and it also has loads of diff food stuffs on there and it breaks down the fat, protein and carbs content so you can see what you're eating and works out how many cals you need each day.

ducdo · 18/04/2009 14:16

I think there is around 90 cals in a skinny cow lolly so not too bad. Today is going well so far. No snacking on biscuits or leftover easter eggs .. even though they are everywhere I turn.

Didn't manage a run this morning as had to take my daughter to a 6th birthday party at Wacky Warehouse at 9am so up bright and early for that. Will def go tomorrow morning though. Been up a ladder painting for past couple of hours although that doesn't burn off many cals atleast it keeps me busy and out the kitchen.

Will check out that link you sent later. I'm not too great at reading up on how many cals are in foods as find it all gets a bit too detailed.

I have the oatso simple porridge for breakfast which always fill me up til lunch and don't think they're too bad on the calorie content.

Hope the sun is shining where you are .. enjoy rest of your saturday x

ducdo · 20/04/2009 12:07

Monday weigh in .... lost 2 pounds so now weighing in at 10 stone 6 lbs .. was very pleased and feeling very motivated for another good week.

Had porridge for breakfast this morning, morning snack of apple and thinking jacket potato for lunch from staff restaurant as working today.

Bought Slimming World mag this morning so will read that on the tube for some inspiration and maybe some good recipes .. if I get any will put them on here.

Good luck to whoever else gets on the scales today )

lilianfox · 20/04/2009 15:41

hi there

congrats on weight loss! just quick post back to 9.8 this am so glad i've cut out snacking and still exercising. looking forward to weigh in next week if i can keep this up.

skinny cow hot choc drink lovely for snack 2 sometimes

good to hear any recipes or tips you have
x

lilianfox · 20/04/2009 15:45

ducdo you still running? gonna try and get to gym again this eve maybe exercise bike not too hard on knee. you feeling hungry?

ducdo · 20/04/2009 16:13

firstly WELL DONE on getting back to 9 8, that is great news, bet you're pleased.

yes I am sometimes feeling hungry, but when I think about it I'm not REALLY hungry, just in the habit of having a biscuits or a snack (that I shouldn't be eating) just for the sake of it. When I stop and think about it before I open the biscuit jar, or grab the unhealthy snack and ask myself 'am I really hungry?' 9 times out of 10 I'm not so I'm saying no! or if I'm hungry I'll have a healthy snack instead .. fruit or a glass of water.

Still running, had a great run yesterday morning for 45 mins and covered about 4 miles which was good. May not go out tonight but if not will def go for run tomorrow night when I get home from work. Aim to get 2 runs in by the weekend.
