HALF A STONE TO LOSE-aaaaaargh

FreakGeek · 03/04/2009 14:50

So DS is 8 mths old and they say it takes 9 months to gain the weight and 9mths to lose it- am the same weight since when he was 8 weeks and cannot shift the last half a stone. Am 5 ft 3 so weighing 60kg is alot for me- just want to be able to get back into my Size 10-12 jeans (Marks and Spencers' generous sizing) and lovely pre-preg dresses. Admittedly, finish off all his avocado mush etc.

Anyone want to join me- weigh in on monday and motivation, tips etc ? Have yo-yo dieted since 12 years old so know calorie content inside out, but now just ignore it and basically eat whatever i want, whilst thinking that i really shouldnt and believeing that "tomorrow I'll start"

Hi there

I am not sure if there is anyone else on the thread ducdo? Although perhaps they might pop in again?

However things are still going well here. I am similar to you re the hunger. For some reason I am not feeling as hungry and when I am i'm able to have an apple or a low fat yoghurt. I still haven't done any snacking in the eve so that's great. I just have to keep up motivation which is good at the moment.

How many runs are you doing a week then? Is it 3 you try and do? do you enjoy it? I am still managing to go to gym each night and doing about 40 mins altogether on bike and last night on rowing machine as well.

Have you got a goal weight you are working towards? I want to lose about 1/2 stone in first instance but maybe a little more if I can to get back to pre preg weight. I am going on holiday in around May 16 and I want to try and get down as much as possible before then as I know that I may gain a little when I am on holiday.

How about you?

ducdo · 21/04/2009 13:56

yes, strange about that not sure where the others have disappeared to on the thread, but hopefully they will come back?!

aiming for atleast 2 runs a week, if not more. really difficult as I work 3 days a week in the City and my husband works shifts so need to do it when he's home so he can look after the kids. If I can get 3 runs in, that is good.

If you are managing to get to the gym each night that is great, well done. I would love to get under 10 stone and back into size 12s again.

As I have had 3 children, I seem to have the opinion 'I am now a size 14 as I've had 3 kids' but trying to convince myself that even though I've had children doesn't mean I cannot return to my pre-pregnancy size .. it must be possible?! I need to just make more effort .. I will be able to get back to a size 12, I will be able to look good again and still be a mum of 3. If I say it enough, hopefully it will work with a bit of effort from me and taking a bit more time for myself .. something which is not easy when you juggle kids, husband, work and home.

I have a friend's wedding in August and want to look and feel fab at that which gives me loads of time to loose atleast 8 lbs.. if not more. The summer makes me want to lose weight anyway as I want to be able to wear nice clothes and feel comfortable in them.

Just finished a lovely tuna salad for lunch and the apple on my desk is calling out to be eaten. Better get back to work now .. Have a good Tuesday

Hi Ducdo

How's it going? Have you been out running? I am impressed that you run 2-3 times a week as it sounds like a long term commitment you have to it. I am abit all or nothing. I go through stages where I will go to gym everyday (like at the moment) and then something will happen... dd may get ill or i hurt my knee and then I'll stop and not go for ages and ages(months). I sometimes wonder if I did say maybe 2-3 times per week it might be more likely that I would keep it up for a longer period of time. I just felt like I wanted to have a blitz and try and shift as many pounds as poss but long run I think i am more likely to get burn out etc.

I think you must be really motivated to fit in your exercise though because I only have one dd and I do find it hard to make time. I don't work either so you are doing fab.

I am also size 12-14 more 14 in skirts and trousers etc and actually although I want to lose abit of weight this size really is ok. I think that's part of the problem getting motivated sometimes is that actually most of the time I feel ok about my size with the pang in the background about getting back to size 12 etc. However... i think the sunny weather does help and also the fear of gaining weight rather than staying the same.
Some of my clothes are still rather tight etc etc

Anyway I am still going strong. I had a very hungry day yesterday and I still managed to snack on healthy stuff. I think it may start to get a little hard for me now not sure exactly why perhaps I feel a little hungrier than I did the first few days. I'd be interested to know how you're doing?

lilianfox · 23/04/2009 13:59

Hi there

ducdo...hope you're enjoying the lovely weather if it's also nice where you are.

I just thought I'd let you know that I have found a thread on mumsnet that is related to the food focus website that I mentioned the other day. I am finding that the website is really helpful and it seems others are too. I am not sure if it's your sort of thing but there is a thread i've joined with others who are also on it. All are welcome to come along so if you fancy it the title of the thread is below. I am not sure how to create a link maybe see what you think.

the food focus appreciation society-all wobbly bits welcome

i will continue to post here as well if you are still around etc as I am still pretty motivated at the mo.

ducdo · 23/04/2009 22:17

hi there, sorry not logged on since Tuesday, been manic at work and then no internet at home but back online today! All going really well. Went running Tuesday evening and again tonight, tried a couple of different routes too so I don't get bored of running past the same old houses! (like having a good old nose whilst I'm running of course!)

Maybe if you try to workout 3-4 times a week rather than every night you may find it easier to stick with it long term. See how you get one, atleast whilst its going well and you're enjoying it, then stick with it.

Know what you mean about feeling hungry. I do get hungry between meals so been putting the kettle on to distract me and keep me away from the biscuits! It's getting easier and hoping that Monday will be another pound off atleast which will keep my motivation going.

With the sun shining, definitely makes me want to lose more weight as I am not chucking on layers of clothes to cover up.
When I post this message, I will check out the other thread you mention and maybe join up.

ducdo · 23/04/2009 22:50

lilianfox, just had a look at the FF site .. my goodness me .. very interesting and think it could get quite addictive! Have registered and would like to give it a go (just hope I have the time to log all my food intake).
But think it could be just what I need to kick start the weight loss and lose the extra baby weight once and for all. Thank you!

Have joined the other thread you mentioned, so we may aswell just stick to that one .. no point doing two? unless you want to. Doesn't seem the others are still on this thread anyway...

Off to bed soon to dream about a new thinner me!!

lilianfox · 23/04/2009 22:56

hi

glad it's still going well for you & you are still out running. Do you still run when it's cold and raining? How long have you been running? In terms of months/years etc do you think it's part of your routine?

Thanks for reminding me about weigh in monday... i forgot it's not that far away and it's given me abit more incentive. I've been feeling quite hungry at times and not snacking or anything unhealthy etc i do drink alot of peppermint tea though and I've been drinking lots of sparking water as well.

My husband had an apple and blackberry pie for dessert this evening with devon icecream (I was feeling hungry and would have loved some and was tempted to pick abit of the pastry but I knew it would be a slippery slope)and then a few minutes ago he opened up a large bar of galaxy and starting 'crunching' away at it.

He can quite easily polish off the whole bar and I am quite hungry! Usually we might share it etc He doesn't have weight prob and trains and plays rugby each week. I did tell him how hard it was to watch him eat the choc and he did stop but it's still sitting on edge of chair! (but I wont eat it as still motivated at mo).

How are you finding eating with family etc? Do you eat the same thing as them? I am throwing left overs away at mo although usually i will eat them no probs.

lilianfox · 23/04/2009 23:01

i was going to say don't worry if you don't find time/can't post for some reason etc i know what it's like . It's good to hear how you're getting on though def help to keep me motivated x

lilianfox · 24/04/2009 00:59

Hi ducdo

glad you liked the ff site. I must have made the last post on this thread just as you were posting as well etc anyway yes lets join the other one. I will keep a look out to see how you're getting on. All the best x

ducdo · 24/04/2009 11:46

hi lilianfox, yup joined on the other site now and hopefully will get support there, keep the motivation up and also some recipe ideas which will be great.

before kids, I used to go to the gym 3 times a week but since children have arrived I don't go to the gym and don't have time to workout. I do the 5k Race For Life most years and a vain attempt to get some training in a month or two before the 'big run'. Doing another 5k run in July which is why I've started the running again

Main reason I want to lose weight is I just want to get back to feeling a bit better about myself and over the years with the children arriving, I do still look OK but I am bigger and wobbly than before and just want to feel better about myself.

Kids always have dinner around 5pm and me and hubby eat separately later. If he's on nights I will eat with the kids. I'm the same with leftovers and without even thinking put whatever they've left straight into my mouth! Last few days when making there dinner its been hard not to pop the odd mouthful in or even taste some! It's funny how you get so in the habit of eating stuff without thinking about it... but then realise why the weight is not shifting .. all those little mouthfuls add up to lots of calories.

Hubby is already moaning that i'm on a diet as we like to eat nice dinners, get takeaways sometimes so he thinks I'm going to live on carrots now (which I'm not :O)) but maybe if I show him the FF site he may decide to eat a bit more healthier too .. although he doesn't need to . Why is it blokes can eat what they like and not get the wobbles us women do?!

Anyway, better make up by little man's lunch. Off work today so being mum to my 2 yr old whilst the older ones at school. Will put together a salad for myself!

Have a good friday and lets keep in touch on the other link. Take care ;O)
