I just got the CD today - am hoping it will work!!

lilibet · 21/04/2005 08:57

I have done one week and lost 3lb - yes I know you shouldn't weigh yourself but it's dh's fault as he didn't take the batteries out of the scales

It's 12 weeks today off my holidays, but I am going to try to not do my ususal "if I loose 2lb a week for 12 weeks, I'll be wonderful" thing. I am going to try to take this one week at a time.

Kayleigh · 21/04/2005 10:46

lilibet well done . That's great. Am so pleased for you !

dinny, I prefer to do mine sitting in my home office chair. I put a cushion behind my back and close my eyes. This way I actually wake when he tells me. I have found when I do it in bed (before going to sleep) I end up waking at three in the morning tangled up in my headphones. And I'm wondering if I'm going into too deep a sleep as I am not waking when he tells me. This makes me think that maybe it won't work properly, as last few days have felt hungry again and found it harder to follow.
Will listen to my CD this evening in my office and see if that helps put me back on track.

Hello everyone. I have been reading mumsnet for weeks now (I just love it and am totally addicted )and was so pleased to read this thread. I bought the book in January and it has gone back and forth to work since then without being read! But last night on the tube I read it and listened to the cd in bed and it is all thanks to you lot!! Thank you all so much. x

Kayleigh · 21/04/2005 11:42

Hi sax7743, welcome to mumsnet. And good luck with the weight loss. Have you got much to lose ? Are you a serial dieter like me ? Tell us all !

OP posts:
Uhuru · 21/04/2005 11:53

I have been inspired by you all and have ordered from Amazon. Wish me luck!

sax7743 · 21/04/2005 12:04

Not a serial dieter at all, just really really FAT . I did do SW once but hated it. It has just creapt up since I had ds just over 4 years ago and now need to lose over 5 stone!! I have no willpower at all. I eat because I am bored, fed up, hungry (although PM suggests that I am not, try telling my tummy that). I so want to lose it and I know I can now as I have finally stood up and told mumsnet I AM FAT!!

lilibet · 21/04/2005 21:19

I had a MacDonalds

Woo Hoo!!!!

Didn't eat it all tho' - gave ds1 half my chips and left some of the quorn burger - I was full, but it was so lovely being able to have one wihtout stressing out about it

dinny · 21/04/2005 21:27

Have had a great day food-wise. Here's what I had.

Coffee for breakfast as not hungry.
Some of dd and ds's chicken with veggies and cheese sauce for lunch.
Half a muffin at 4pm.
Half a cheese toastie and a yoghurt at 5pm.
Chicken, sweetcorn, mayo pitta at 8pm.
Am currently on second glass white wine

Can someone remind me what the McKenna take on alcohol consumption is?

crunchie · 22/04/2005 10:04

lilibet that's great - its being able to eat withoutthe guilt

lilibet · 22/04/2005 10:37

Have a great time at your wedding Crunchie, we're off to ours in an hour or so.

Grommit · 22/04/2005 19:34

This seems to be working for me too. I read the book and thought it was actually quite badly written and would not have had much influence on my eating habits. The CD, however once I got past giggling at the Barry White/T.P Wilderbeast voice, is great. It not only seems to reprogram the mind against snacking but it is also a good relaxation technique. I do recommend this to any of you who want to lose weight and hopefully keep it off!

lilibet · 24/04/2005 17:02

Who was it further down t he thread who asked about drinking? I now have the answer! I did really well at the meal after the wedding on Friday, was starving as we had to hang about that long, but paced myself thru the courses, left a bit of each one and made it to the end without feeling stuffed. so far so good, but by the time the buffet was served at night I was on the wrong side of an awful lot of alcohol and I ate for Great Britain!

Since then, I have hardly been hungry - perhaps it's a balance thing? so am back on track and following my instincts now. How's everyone else?

crunchie · 25/04/2005 09:19

lilibet I know that feeling. I tried to be good at the wedding, I had a couple of canapes (I was hungry) and then the meal was at 8pm and I'm afraid the more I drank the more I ate. I even came home and had a snack!! I then had the hungover munchies and ate a breakfast (at 11 am) of pasta and veggies?? - it was what I fancied ) and a small lunch and a load of greek salad. I also ate my kids leftovers But I really WAS hungry and did eat them slowly

I also did loads of excerise - gardening for hours on Sunday.

Anyway I am trying really hard here but haven't managed to listen to the CD over the weekend. ust do that tonight.

I also want to know what happens if you are in a hurry for a mealtime? Some times I am in such a rush and cannot sit and slowy eat my food for 20 mins as I haven't actually got 20 mins. Do any of you have that problem?

I have tried by simply serving myself a lot less food and actually leaving the table almost hungry - usually my body does decide it is full a bit later.

lilibet · 26/04/2005 12:35

Kayleigh? ok ??

jasper · 26/04/2005 21:33

crunchie, very interesting your remark about having willpower 95% of the time but seriously undoing all the good work in the other 5%.

I have often said exactly this, quoting those same figures.

What's that all about?

It's as if a switch flicks in my brain and I go into unrestrained eating mode.

Kayleigh · 26/04/2005 21:42

still here, had a bad couple of days and am currently in my 5% phase
need to get back on track AGAIN

OP posts:
Kayleigh · 26/04/2005 21:44

crunchie - know exactly what you mean about not having time to eat slowly. Was thinking the same thing today as I sat at my desk with people coming up to me asking me questions every 2 minutes. Kept having to swallow what I was trying to slowly chew and savour. Aaaaaaaaaghhhhh.

Gave up and had a bar of chocolate

lilibet · 27/04/2005 09:10

Yesterday I ate my tea out of the pan while stood up and trying to get ds2 ready for football!

My apetite is very small at the moment which is really strange - I've never been one to loose my apetite but I'm not loosing weight. I know that I shouldn't be weighing myself but that is one habit that I can't break and the weight is not coming off other than the three pounds last week.

dinny · 27/04/2005 21:37

hi everyone, well, I have lost FIVE POUNDS since I started doing this. V pleased. Still have many moments where I lose it and forget to eat consciously and slowly and just ram it in (usually kids' tea-time and/or evening). Really hard to stay focused. Have also stopped drinking wine at home - saving it for a treat if I ever go out again socially! How's everyone else doing?

Kayleigh · 28/04/2005 12:30

dinny well done. That's brilliant. Is that after 1 week ?
Am interested to see how your second week goes - I started to lose my motivation 2nd week.
Am trying to stick to my 4 rules at the moment. One thing that has stuck with me is not eating when i'm not hungry.

OP posts:
lilibet · 28/04/2005 12:44

I didn't loose weight in my second week but am trying to work out if I'm heavier due to monthly bloating adn I think [hope] I may be.

We are away this weeknd on honeymoon so it may all go awry

Not eating when you're not hungry is really hard Kayleigh - think how long we have been stress/comfort/bored/ eating. This may take us time but I beleive it will work for us.

dinny · 28/04/2005 20:12

Kayleigh, you were doing very well - stay with it! Have been doing it properly (ish!) for about 9-10 days (I think!). However, am sitting here on second glass vino and have scoffed half a tube of Pringles (though I enjoyed every mouthful }. I weighed myself this morning and am actually 3 pounds lighter than I thought (had been weighing self in the evening before). Didn't realise the time of day made so much difference.

dot1 · 04/05/2005 22:05

I was just wondering how everyone's doing... I've been lurking on this thread and bought the book a while ago, but only just got round to reading it properly a couple of weeks ago.

I think I've lost weight, but am trying not to weigh myself for a while!! I'm finding it all surprisingly OK (I HATE diets and have found I'm not stressed at all with this way of thinking about food), but I can't seem to get the hang of eating slowly... Even if I remember to slow down, I just can't... And leaving something on the plate is another one I forget.

But only eating when I'm hungry is a revelation!!! And stopping when I'm full - can't believe I'm actually trying to do this!!!

Will get on the scales (they're not at my house - am deliberately using MIL's and we only go there every couple of weeks) in the next week or so - 3 stone to lose so fingers crossed I've shifted a few lbs!

kiera · 06/05/2005 11:21

Hi dot1 & everybody - this is my second day on Paul McKenna - I don't believe in diets and am very skeptical - lost my dream long ago that I would ever shift this weight (5 stone....) but I am giving it the 2 week challenge with no weighing inbetween - rarely weigh myself anyway as chucked out my scales years ago they just seemed to make things worse. I have been maintaining my weight for the last 6 years by simply not dieting and enjoying my food but never managed to shift any, and I am very active (sahm). Yesterday I ate less than I usually did and didn't feel hungry. So - we'll see...

What did you think of the hypnosis? I felt myself going under the first time and panicked it was a bit scary, had to consciously allow myself to let go. Last night was more relaxed. Wd not recommend you do it last thing at night though as I did - and was wideawake for the next hour...
