Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

let them eat cake, i feel your pain. huge wine intake with friend last night - feel bloody rough this morning. i think thejuicing has ruinned alcohol for me - my intoxication line has moved backwards a little - or forwards depending on your view.

blaaaargh though. i certainly don't fancy drinking juice today.

At the weekend, I went to a free pamper event for women and had my first ever manicure (shape and nail varnish only). The lady doing my nails kept commenting on that my nails were strong and in excellent condition. Of course, I then went on to wax lyrical about juicing and that the good condition of my nails, hair skin, mood (lol) was down to the intense concentration of vitamins and minerals that I have been ingesting.

She is now a convert and is planning to give the regime a go because of the obvious health benefits!

Ive got my juicer, havbe read the book and am going shopping later for the fruit and veg. I cant get into town as DP has the car so its going to be a trip to Sainsburys or Tesco.

Does anyone know if ill be able to get the following from there:

Wheatgrass
Kale (what does it look llike )
Alfalfa sprouts
Fennel (again, what does it look like )
Cinnamon

If i wont be able to get them from either of the supermarkets is there anything else that i can use instead?

Im really looking forward to starting the plan. Reading the book has given me more of an initative.

Hope everyone is doing well

LetThemEatCake · 17/11/2008 15:07

hi there missnatalie

I used wheatgrass powder (from health food shop)
Prob easiest to get alfalfa from health food shop too, not convinced S or T will have.

cinnamon - definitely - in herbs and spices section

kale - dark leaf, curly edges, comes in a bag - "Curly Kale" just use extra spinach if you can't fid it

Fennel - bulby looking with feathery edges - it's only for the teas though, not the juices, so just get fennel tea if you can't find fennel.

poshtottie · 17/11/2008 15:59

missnatalie I have wheatgrass powder. Its revolting and expensive. I like wheatgrass juice which is mixed with apple juice, from holland and barrett and is much cheaper.

I found I threw away a lot of kale, watercress, parsley so I tend to use just spinach and it seems easier to juice.

As for fennel, just buy fennel tea bags.

bouncingblueberries · 18/11/2008 07:46

Re: fennel - it depends which book you have. In Juice Yourself slim there's a lovely recipe for Fennel Fuel smoothie. Really yummy and refreshing.

I feel like I'm getting a cold today

Lizzylou · 18/11/2008 07:54

I haven't had any of the supplements, have had fennel tea (like it anyway!).
Tell me about the wheatgrass juice, Poshtottie, is it like a fruit juice/cordial? Might be near a H&B this week, will have a try.
After a weekend of naughtiness juiced all day yesterday and feel good again. At the moment am not losing any more but am maintaining rather than gaining and haven't really done much exercise for a while (can't get running at all at the moment). I do feel better and healthier and my stomac is less bloated and flatter.
Well done all those who are losing and doing well!

poshtottie · 18/11/2008 08:03

lizzy, yes it is just like a juice. I just add a small amount to my juices if it asks for wheatgrass. I also use spirulina but it is in tablet form and makes me gag.

Lizzylou · 18/11/2008 09:04

Great, thanks will look for it (might just pass on the Spirulina tablets though!).

bouncingblueberries · 18/11/2008 12:54

Wow! Aldi's avocados are infinitely superior to Tesco's!

All the avocado's looked a bit manky in Tesco this week so I popped up to Aldi's yesterday to stock up on some veg. Bought 4 avocado's for something like 49p each - they're at least double the size of the Tesco ones and much tastier!

missnatalie · 18/11/2008 15:00

Have started the juicing diet today. Had the lemon with hot water and 2 x super juice. I should have had the super chute on too but im not hungry. I really do hope that i can stick to this plan. Gave DS some of the super juice in his beaker and he loved it . So even if i feel like i cant be arsed doing the juice, im still gong to have to make them for DS .

The only problem(s) ive got are having a pounding headache, feel dizzy and im very tired. Is this normal? Its probably because my body is getting rid of the crap

bouncingblueberries · 18/11/2008 15:06

Missnatalie - totally normal! You'll feel like a new woman in a couple of days though if you just stick with it! Just remember - the hardcore bit is ONLY for 7 days, that's all.

PersephoneSnape · 18/11/2008 16:47

I feel absolutely bloody great today! it's easy to stick to - I'm having juice while at work, small handful of nuts when i get in and am making kids tea, so i don't pick at their stuff. last night io had a huge chicken salad. tonight I'm planning salmon and veg.

missnatalie · 18/11/2008 19:02

Thanks bouncingblueberries. I was begining to think that i was feeling dizzy because i wasnt getting enought food but im probably getting more from the juices than i do from solids.

I tried the Super Chute Juice earlier. Uuuurrrggghh is was absolutly discusting. Although DS thought it was lovely . He drank half a beaker full . Think ill skip that one from now on.

Im on my 3rd juice of the day. The Turbo Express. Its so yummy. I'll probably have the Hot n Spicy before bed too.

Well only 6 more days to go until i get my samon and veggies

PersephoneSnape · 18/11/2008 21:52

wasn't that hungry - had a piece of mackeral and nuts earlier to graze while DCs ate. had plate of saute mushrooms, tomatoes and frozen veg with black pepper and garlic. nom, nom, nom. have 1/2 litre of carrot apple ad beetroot for work tomorrow stick at it miss nat - the first few days can be rough, when you're through the other side it feels great!

nappyaddict · 18/11/2008 22:36

missnatalie - i like the super chute one but then i do miss out the beetroot and the sprouts.
did you have the hot and spicy one before bed. that's one of my faves and so simple aswell.

missnatalie · 19/11/2008 12:30

nappyaddict yes i had the Hot N Spicy before bed. It was lovely.

Got up this morning and my face is covered in spots . Probably another side efect . Ive had the hot water and lemon but no juice so far. Im not hungry just feeling a bit sicky. Going to make myselfa glass of the super uice though as i dont want to sdenly get hungry and grab a biscuit.

Only 5 days to go. Im already craving Franki & Bennys cheesy galic bead. Yummy

PersephoneSnape · 19/11/2008 12:51

missnat - before you jump into your garlic bread make sure you weigh yourself and see how much you've lost by 'eating' healthily all week. might change your mind about the garlic bread (although i fantasize about buckets of KFC, so i can hardly talk.)

i don't think i have the hot n spicy recipe? whats in it?

missnatalie · 19/11/2008 14:40

PersephoneSnape the hot and spicy is:

Juice 3 apples and pour juice into a saucepan. Slowly heat but DO NOT BOIL. When nice and hot, pour into mug, add a good pince of cinnamon and get cosy.

Its really nice although i found that i had to keep stiring it when it was in the cup as it was getting quite thick.

Mmmm KFC. I live just over the road from KFC, McDonalds, Chiquitos and Pizza Hut. The smell coming from over there is lovely.

Im just looking forward to next Tuesday when i can have some solid food. Fish and veggies

DivaSkyChick · 19/11/2008 16:38

MissNatalie, my dd loves the juice, too! I found out the hard way that it doesn't love her, though. She got the worst ever diaper rash after one of them and it's been really really hard to get rid of. I think it might have been the ginger in the super chute juice?

Shame because I was all excited about finding a way to get more veggies into her.

missnatalie · 19/11/2008 17:22

Thanks for the tip DivaSkyChick. I wont be lerring DS haveany of the juices with ginger in. Have you tried Bepanthan for the nappy rash? DS had terrible nappy rash when he was anti-biotics and the Bepanthancleared it p straight away.

DivaSkyChick · 19/11/2008 17:36

No, thanks I'll try that!

missnatalie · 19/11/2008 20:33

I came so close to breaking the diet earlier. I was desperate to put some food in my mouth. The craving was probably made worse by the fact that i was cooking DP & DS's tea. I got so angry that i even started crying and begged DP to let me eat something (not that he's stopping me). Think ive hit a brick wall with the green glop i just cant put anymore of it into my body. DP knew that i was close to cheating so he made me a Passion 4 Juice Master and it was luuurrrvvvllleey . Im hoping i feel better tomorrow. I really want to stick to this. PLEASE somebody help

PersephoneSnape · 20/11/2008 07:00

missnat - a satsuma won't kill you. if you really Really HAVE to eat have some fruit. rather that than inhaling garlic bread and KFC

bouncingblueberries · 20/11/2008 08:11

missnatalie you CAN do this! I bet you feel a whole lot better this morning. Stick with it, the results are amazing.

Something I read in the Juice Yourself Slim book really helped me in the early days - Jason Vale talks about it being a plan NOT a diet. You can eat whatever you want, but why would you want to stuff crap like KFC into your body when your feeding it with the finest liquid nutrition? The juices you take the time and effort to make every day are doing amazing things to your insides. You're drinking a wonderful mixture of vitamins and minerals.

Remember, when you start having a mini tantrum for crap food, you're having a tantrum for something that you don't really want - if you really wanted it, you wouldn't have embarked on this amazing juice plan. If you do have it, it'll just end up making you feel crap about yourself. So the choice is yours. Eat crap and feel crap or take a deep breath and make yourself a Passion for Juicemaster or a hot and spicy - which would your body truly thank you for?

Stick with it! You'll feel and look amazing!
