Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

spokette · 01/09/2008 13:07

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

Right then. You lot have motivated me big time. I have 6 stone to lose . Am just about to order the book. Have a juicer. Book won't arrive for a week or so but will cut down on the caffine in the meantime to help make it easier.

Wish me luck!

DivaSkyChick · 27/10/2008 14:03

Jeep, where are you that the sun is just coming out?

spokette · 27/10/2008 14:12

Good luck Buda. See it as a lifestyle change and not just a diet. I guarantee that you will lose a stone in a three weeks if you follow the regime.

I was touching base with my cousin who started me on the road to juicing and she, like me, finds that even when she is not trying, she still loses weight. It is because

  1. Our appetites have reduced.
  2. As a result of 1 we are eating much smaller portions and in particular, have reduced the amount of refined carbs in our diet.
  3. We rarely snack.
  4. We can recognise the difference between true hunger and thirst. Most people mistake the latter for the former. Consequently, it is important to drink lots of water.
  5. We exercise more and that includes plain old walking!

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Will do spokette. Thanks for the encouragement!

DivaSkyChick · 27/10/2008 15:47

Hey Spokette or other successful juicers,

What do you use if you can't find fresh pineapple at the store? I haven't looked yet but is frozen pineapple normally available? Also, how much did you spend on your first shop for the 7 lbs in 7 days? Since my husband is not going to juice, I imagine the extra produce outlay is going to smash my budget this month.

God will that book ever arrive???

poshtottie · 27/10/2008 17:34

Hi diva, not sure if you can buy frozen pineapple. Most supermarkets stock them. I am finding Morrisons the best place for my fruit and veg and the cheapest. We have a market on a Wednesday and the fruit and veg are even cheaper but they tend not to last as long.

My dh is away so I am finding this way of eating a bit cheaper but I soppose if you are also buying for others it will work out expensive. Worth it though.

I have had two juices today and now had to eat as was very hungry, so had a bowl of porridge with soya milk and pumpkin seeds.

spokette · 27/10/2008 20:05

When I have had trouble getting pineapple, I have used so called pure pineapple juice from a carton. Better than nothing.

As for initial cost on fruit, I reckon I must have spent an extra £10-15 on fruit but that was from Somerfield which is expensive. Now buy from Aldi!

I'll do the 7 day plan next week when the children go back to school - can't wait
I've had colds & chest infections non-stop for 6 weeks now and had to stop exercising as a result - I was doing 3 5K runs per week before and now feel like a fat blob and have gone up a dress size. I really hope the detox will help to break this cycle of neverending colds and sort out my carbs cravings.

Got the juicer a few weeks ago and have been using it almost daily, and I've got all the supplements ready and waiting - now I just need to survive half term.

pumpkinscantdancethetango · 27/10/2008 21:10

geekgirl thats the best thing the juices have done for me - cut out my carb cravings I sound like I am making crap progress compared to everyone else, but if you know what I ate like before its huge progress, I just can't bring myself to admit the extent of my disordered eating on here yet. (willing to cat if anyone wants to chat/has had similar food issues though)

Today have had - 1 smoothie and 2 juices. One of them I froze lastnight and took in to work today. Have eaten some oatcakes, a banana and raisins at lunch. And this evening had an omlette with mushrooms. Not been hungry at all today.

nappyaddict · 27/10/2008 22:09

spokette how many meals are you on now?

Jeepney · 28/10/2008 03:14

Arfishy, I managed to find some avocados yesterday while shopping but they are not ripe yet so am just using a different day on the plan, do you think i'll still have the same effects if I mix it round a bit??

Diva, I'm in The Philippines the monsoon season is coming to a close and the sun should start to shine! Although saying that it started raining last night and so far hasn't stopped!

Well the little headache I had yesterday turned into a full blown migraine so I went to bed at 10 but couldn't sleep till about 2 as it was so bad. But it is gone now, I really hope it doesn't come back tonight.

For dinner last night I had the butternut squash and carrot soup and it was lovely, even DP liked it and asked if I would be making it again today!! I think it was a little thick though, it resembled babyfood more so than soup and I followed the instructions to the letter.

I am mainly missing the carbs, I did have a little chestnut sized piece of bread stolen from DP's plate. I think I need to stop doing that as it will only make the cravings come back.

Just on my breakfast smoothie (this time difference is a bitch, I am literally talking to myself!) the breakfast bio live one and again lovely.

I am quite looking forward to Thurs and Fri as thats when I can have salad for diiner instead of soup. I think my 7 days is different to everyone elses, I have the juice yourself slim one and I get to have salads and soup. And it still says 7lb in 7 days. If anyone wants the recipes for soups or salads let me know I have them all typed up

Flum · 28/10/2008 03:46

Can't sleep! Gah am 3 days overdue with 3rd kid now and this is the thread I needed to find! I have put on less weight with this baby than the other two but I started at a stone heavier. So I started at 11 stone and want to be 9 and half to 10 stone. So other than the 2 and half stone baby weight want to lose another stone or stone and half. So say a total of 3 stone - any more will be a bonus. I expect about 2 stone to come off of its own accord as before. So a stone or so.....

Baby due now am thinking of holding off for 6 weeks after baby born as will be breastfeeding baby or I could do saaaay one juice a day and 2 meals a day for a month or two and then move to 2 juices a day. I guess I should not do the 7 day only juice thing due to the feedig but will be feeding for at least 4 or 6 months and really can't wait that long.

Anyone bought the recommended Juicer on the website? Its £100 for two of the books and the Phillips Wide Chute Juicer.

Has anyone noticed a mention of breastfeeding in any of the books?

Flum · 28/10/2008 03:48

Spokette..... You are very pro this...... Are you actually Jason Vale or his missus????

arfishy · 28/10/2008 04:49

LOL Flum I'm fairly certain Spokette isn't Jason, not least because his writing style is quite different.

I have seen him mention breastfeeding, I think the gist is not to solely juice while breastfeeding and speak to your GP. I would think that a normal healthy diet with a juice or two thrown in would be good [disclaimer: am not a gp].

Jeepney - your version sounds interesting. Can you give me an idea of what he says with the soups and salads? In the 7lb in 7 days it says that you can swap out the juices on his daily plans with your favourite or additional recipes if you like, so I think you can be quite flexible overall.

poshtottie · 28/10/2008 07:30

jeepney, could you post the soup recipe please? Its getting cold here in the UK and I feel like something hot to eat.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 28/10/2008 07:56

I think I have turned all wierd and anorexic. Anyone else find that they can't be arsed to do a juice and so don't eat anything at all? Today I have had 2 juices at 8am and 10am then nothing much since apart from some fish at lunchtime - a small bit of salmon fillet. Then nowt (apart from some grapes) until teatime tonight - will have lamb and salad and veggies.

I fear I have gone wierd. I am hungry but lazy and lazyness is winning right now.

I am on the 21 day post 7 day next bit (can't remember the proper name).

Not sure that this is good or healthy. Am shouting at the kids a lot around 5pm so should make the effort to make a juice then I suppose, it would tide me over until dinner time.

poshtottie · 28/10/2008 08:42

claudia, I felt a bit high on day four and loved that skinny feeling I had. I couldn't be bothered to juice this morning so had a bowl of porridge instead with ds. Will try to juice the rest of the day but need to shop first.

bouncingblueberries · 28/10/2008 13:23

Wow - I sat and read this entire thread yesterday and I am so inspired!

Bought the Juice yourself Slim book and the Juice Master Keeping it Simple book this morning, then went to the market to stock up on some carrots and pineapples.

Will read the books properly before I go hardcore but had a ginger and lemon juice this morning for breakfast (apples, carrots, lemon and ginger) and the pineapple, celery, cucumber, avocado mix for lunch. Yum yum.

Could really have done with another juice mid morning, so have bought some tupperware beaker thingys so I can take my juice with me wherever I go! Had to make do with a scone instead

MaggsS · 28/10/2008 13:46

This has really inspired me too!!

Have bought and read the book and bought a juicer.

Hubby has agreed to join me so sent him out to get fruit and veg.

Any tips for a newbie?

Flum · 28/10/2008 15:57

My DH is poo pooing it. He is sports mad and when he is training he follows the Zone and swears by it. It strikes me as all cottage cheese and olives whihc I hate so I avoid it. He does lose weight very fast but he is used to it and very committed.

I have told him I am going to do this after baby born and he wishes me luck but thinks weight will go straight back on after a few weeks. That happened to anyone??

spokette · 28/10/2008 17:12

Just returned from the hairdresser. She wanted to know what I have been eating or putting in my hair because it is thicker and glossier than usual. I have been going to her for 2 years and she said that this is the best condition my hair has been in all that time! She also reckons my skin has vastly improved and that overall I look healthier as well as much trimmer!.

She is now going to start juicing, not to lose weight but to gain the healthy benefits to improve her skin and hair.

Nappyaddict, Mon-Fri I have one evening meal and juice throughout the day. Sometimes I have bran flakes for breakfast too. Weekends I sometimes join the family for lunch too.

For those who asked, I am not Jason Vale or his other half!!

I am just a simple soul who has found an eating regime that is compatible with my lifestyle and personality and that works personally for me.

OP posts:
spokette · 28/10/2008 17:15

Flum, my weight has not returned because I have not returned to my old eating habits such as snacking, I am eating smaller portions, drinking more water and I exercise more.

All diets are prone to failing if one returns to old eating habits without commiting to making a lifestyle change imho.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 28/10/2008 19:16

spokette - are you still doing the 14 day thing or have you finished that now? how much have you lost altogether?

ClaudiaSchiffer · 28/10/2008 22:01

Flum I have been pretty hard core about the whole thing and HORRORS am finding that since I did the 7 day thing and am now eating like spokette ie juice all day then 1 small meal at night the BSTARD* weight is going back on. I have so far gained 1.5 lbs (since losing 10lbs the first week).

I am exercising and being very controlled about what I eat so am pretty naffed off about it.

Will keep going for another week and see what happens. But it is rather irritating.

nappyaddict · 28/10/2008 22:02

CS - are you doin the turbo charge plan now?
