Going back about 10 years i was an exercise addict! I used to go to the gym at least 5 times a week and would feel incredibly guilty if i missed a day! I used to go at lunchtimes and would do the classes all the time. I prefer the classes because it keeps you focussed and makes you work hard because you just have to keep up with the rest of the class or else you'd look a twat! i agree that spending money on the membership would help to keep me committed (hopefully!). My local leisure centre is about £35 a month so there's not much in it! Plus i feel that the classes and facilities in a leisure centre never quite match up to those of a london club. Obviously you get what you pay for but there's always something second rate about local gyms lol. sorry if i sound snobby.

They do have a monthly membership but it's £60 for the month. yikes!!

oh i dont know what to doooooo!!!!

RiallyEeRiaee · 26/10/2008 21:50

I don't think that's overly snobby, probably private gyms pay their staff more than local authority ones, and have more income for new equipment and stuff. Could you try 1 month at £60 and if it's working for you then sign up? If your enthusiasm is going to go won't it go within a month (mine would). I'm no good at decisions either.

I have been to a gym 3 times. I went to an induction and a gym n swim session at the local authory one (but that was 14 years ago when I used to get a lift into town with my BF who swam. He was a twat. Town is 20-25 mins drive away). We now have a gym where I live (same village as then)but it's alittle bit cliquey TBH. and I got a bad back. My DS plays tennis there (when we can afford the lessons, ie not now), but I always feel we don't fit in (poor relations, even when we can afford the lessons). Don't have the tshirt, literally. Funny thing is it's up a really steep hill outside the village, and someone I know goes there silly-times a week first thing for a massice (IMO) amount of money. But she can't walk home from work, which is free and half the distance. As you can tell it's not for me, but if it works for anyone else then go for it! There was a brilliant salsa class in the village hall but the teacher moved away

RGPargy · 26/10/2008 22:03

hmmm i think the try it for a month option is obviously the most sensible one. i will speak to DP and see what he says about it. It could be that i go for it hell for leather during that month but then relax once i've joined up properly, if you know what i mean?! I suppose it'd give me a chance to really get to see what the facilities are like. Even better, i might get a free one day pass and go for a day. i think you get the feel of a place even on your first visit so that's the cheapest option i suppose!

What a shame it's cliquey. I hate it when that happens. I do try and be thick skinned at these places tho. As you can imagine, i'm normally always the biggest girl there and people are probably looking at me thinking "christ, size of that!". At the end of the day tho, i'm not there for them to look at, i'm there to have a work out and better myself and if they want to stare at me doing it then they must have literally nothing else to look at!!

Shame you cant afford the lessons right now. it's so annoying isn't it and i always feel that when i start exercisign and then dont go, i start to feel down pretty quickly.

jaz236 · 27/10/2008 07:50

Morning Girls

Glad to hear you havent been making any short sharp exits Ria..i would say that,, that means you are doing well!, as everyone ive spoken to has said they go 'straight away' with those!, so you muct be doing it right chick!..did you get weighed yourself before you started?, can you get weighed again to keep a check yourself???

Did you deceide on a gym RG?
our most local private one was expensive but did a 1 month trial and only 6 month contract, however the guy told us that we could cancel ANYTIME as long as we gave a months notice! (it was a jjb gym)facilities were excellent..APART from pool..we would want to take dd on weekend mornings and it was very deep

Well we had night out sat for 2 friends birthdays and school reunion! and contrary to my normal self ...i got drunk!!..yesterday we had maccydees brekky, no lunch and delicious (healthy) carvery for dinner..forgot to weigh myself this morn before brekky, but i 'had' lost some 'before' night out/maccydees..will see!..got sil and niece coming later this morn so have been excersizing my cleaning/tidying/washing this morn..does that count??..hopefully the weather forcast will be wrong and we will get to go to park this afternoon for play/runaround!

have a good day everyone.xx

RiallyEeRiaee · 27/10/2008 09:06

RGPargy · 27/10/2008 09:23

morning everyone.

Think i will deffo get a one day trial before i join up to the gym.

Not going to WW today as DD is asleep and i'm trying to get through to the doctors to see if they can see her today but they're permanently engaged! Poor little thing's had severe diarrohea (sp?!) since Friday night so i really need to get her sorted as her little bum is getting so sore too

jaz236 · 27/10/2008 12:14

RG you poor thing hope ella gets better x

jaz236 · 27/10/2008 19:51

ooooooooooooooops i mean ellie, gawd why have i got it in my head your little ones called ella?

RiallyEeRiaee · 27/10/2008 20:08

poor DD RG, how old is she?

starving tonight. and cold. and miserable.

bran · 27/10/2008 20:24

Hi, I've just come to slink in and see how everyone is doing. You all sound cheerful which is great. I hope you feel warmer and less hungry soon Ria, good news about the lack of side-effects, do let us know what happens in detail if you give in and eat a Mars Bar or something. I'm not loosing any much weight at the moment, but I think there's some muscle going on and fat coming off as my clothes are getting looser.

It was DS's half term last week so we were staying with DH in Amsterdam from Fri evening to Weds and then we went from there to my parents in Dublin and came home last night. I really haven't been eating well, especially when staying with my parents as I don't have that much control over the food there. They both have quite small appetites and tend to eat small amounts of high calorie food and loads of protein. So not only was I hungrier than usual but I was putting on weight too. I have been having lots of stir-fry veg and salad since we came back and my intestines are feeling much happier now.

You might surprise yourself with gym usage RG. Could you have a training pal? You're much more likely to go along if you know someone is waiting for you, plus it's just much less boring if you can have a natter before and after class. I have been really surprised at myself that I've been going twice a week since April, it doesn't even really seem like an effort now it's just part of my routine. It helps that I really like my trainer I suppose, since I gave up work I don't get as much adult conversation and he chats away for the whole hour which I look forward to.

RGPargy · 27/10/2008 20:24

lol Jaz. I have no idea why you keep calling her Ella!!

Ria - Ellie is 10.5 months old. her bum today is sooooo sore and red. I was cleaning her with just cotton wool and cool water and even that was making her sob her poor little heart out.

Got the docs at 9.10am tomorrow - they said that as she was eating ok and was ok in herself that she wouldn't be classed an emergency for appointment today. I hope they sort it soon, i'm dreading the next time she had a poo. I think i'll have to just plonk her in the bath at every poo, so that could mean she has about 4 or 5 baths a day! She'll love that lol!

It's treat day today and so this afternoon i went to the local little country park with my friend we both had a nice hot chocolate with cream on top. I've since then had a crunchie, spanish omelette and chips for dinner and have now just polished off about 5 or 6 Lindor chocs and a big glass of wine!!

i feel i need it today tho coz DS is just really stressing me out, ggrrr!

RGPargy · 27/10/2008 20:31

Hi bran (wasn't that a high fibre drink back in the day?!)

I think i've got to the point now where i WOULD go to the gym and more than anything i would probably surprise DP!

Staying at parents' houses can be a pain cant it! They have all the best intentions but they either underfeed you, overfeed you or just feed you food you dont like/eat anymore! Well done on going twice a week since April. That's as long as i've been doing WW so you've deffo got the habit now!! I dont think i could have a gym buddy as most of the people at my work would go to the gym next door. I haven't asked about their prices yet but even if they're as cheap as LA Fitness, there's not a club locally for me to use at the weekends! Think i will enquire tho, although i've walked through the gym on my way to the waxing place in the basement and it doesn't look as big as LA fitness.

RiallyEeRiaee · 29/10/2008 09:12

pink, but in a way.

Things not too bad, was up in the night to go to the loo, but it's not as sudden or violent as I was expecting, sorry if TMI. My tummy was a bit uncomfortable, but nothing major. TBH I feel just as uncomfortable when I haven't eaten any fat because the opposite seems to happen IYSWIM. I didn't have a tab with my tea pizza) because I forgot. Haven't had breakfast yet because I'm not hungry.

Have a lovely day. The weather is better here. We have to deliver decorated pumpkins to the shop today for the comp, and we will have to walk as DH is out catering a wedding. I think the boys are out with their GPs later, lots of laundry and tidying here then.
