Oh dear Ria, never mind. Back on the wagon again, eh? Although i've wanted to eat crap i have to say that i've resisted ...... so far!! Not sure how much long i can hold out for tho!

RiallyEeRiaee · 04/10/2008 17:56

I aren't quite as bad as I am when not trying, but I just find I lose all interest in food if I get stressed and would rather just eat whats easy than spend ages making something. No excuse I know. Will just Keep Trying. I'll get there one day.

RGPargy · 04/10/2008 22:57

You and me both, Ria. Chin up luv.

FairyMel · 05/10/2008 13:32

Hi all... can I join you?

I'm Mel and I need to lose alot of weight. I've always been overweight ever since I can remember but I am bigger now than I have ever been and it depresses me.

My DH has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes this week and has just started on metformin as well as BP & cholesterol meds. It seems an ideal time for the both of us to get fit and change our eating habits.

We have 2 dd's (5 & almost 2) and we are ttc#3. I know if I can lose weight this will be much easier and will make pregnancy much easier too.

So thats me... weighed in on Wednesday at 19st 6lbs. My very 1st goal is to be under 19st. I'll be taking it a stone at a time but in the end I'd like to be around 12st so a total of 7st to lose. Seems like a long road ahead!

FairyMel · 05/10/2008 13:34

Oh... meant to say that I am trying to follow a Low Gi diet after researching it thats the one that makes the most sense to me! I'd be grateful for any tips!

RiallyEeRiaee · 05/10/2008 14:02

Hi Mel. welcome to the thread.

I did Rosemary Conleys low GI the other week, I like nearly all of it apart from I can't stand new potatoes! So am currently on SW as I've lost a stone on that before and also am clearing out cupboards and freezer and the food is best suited to SW. (But I slipped)

This week will be a bit difficult til after Weds - DH has his hospital appt to get his scan results. But will try to keep up the extra activity and not overeat.

RGPargy · 05/10/2008 15:21

Hi Mel, and welcome!

i also have a huge amount to lose and started off at 19st 8lbs in April this year. I am now 18st - it's taking it's time coming off but i suppose it's coming off slowly and surely. My own fault tho as i like to drink the odd glass of wine or two during the week, which doesn't do me any favours!

I have a DD of 10 months so i'd like to lose weight to be more healthy to play with her and to make sure i'm around for a while yet!

I'm following WW points plan.

Ria - i LOVE new potatoes!! Especially with loads of butter.... mmmmm.....

RiallyEeRiaee · 05/10/2008 16:23

the butter would make them more edible, just not allowed.

have just made cottage pie and lasagne (one for tonight and one for in the week) as our tiny piece of beef hadn't defrosted. I HATE food and I HATE cooking,.

FairyMel · 05/10/2008 16:58

Ahh see this is my downfall... I love food and I love cooking lol. DH is a chef which really doesnt help! We have got stuck in a rut of over indulging and eating very nice food at home. Sometimes I think if we werent so good at cooking this losing weight lark would be so much easier lol!!

RiallyEeRiaee · 05/10/2008 20:09

My DH is a chef too Mel (he doesn't approve of SW tbh). Our problem is the late night eating and drinking when he gets in from work (OK so he hasn't worked for a year because of his shoulder operation, but we haven't stopped...). I think I would find it easier if I did like cooking. I find it all too tedious and would rather be reading or walking or anything but bloody food prep!

RiallyEeRiaee · 06/10/2008 09:41

no loss, no gain. NEW WEEK!

RGPargy · 06/10/2008 22:03

Ria - well done on staying the same! New week, new start, eh?!

With all these chefs around it's no wonder you have weight problems! I love eating and i have recently started to actually enjoy cooking, but i dont really get the time for it these days!

Still, a good flick through nigella soon sorts me out with something fast and simple!

Didn't weigh in today as i have been too busy to attend. i think it would have been bad tho so i'm glad i didn't go. [oops]

RiallyEeRiaee · 07/10/2008 20:24

funny thing is DH doesn't often bother with fancy cheffy things at home as he knows its wasted on a heathen like me

I love reading cookbooks though.

which camp is your DH in Mel - Jamie or Gordon?

crap week so far

FairyMel · 08/10/2008 08:11

DH is a Gordon fan... he hates Jamie with a passion lol.

Weighed in this morning and have lost 4lbs this week! I'm feeling pretty chuffed with that!!

RGPargy · 08/10/2008 12:11

I'm a fan of Nige!!! Prefer Gordon for his ruggedness () but Jamie for his recipes and easy to follow stuff (what i've seen on the telly anyway!).

Well done on the loss Fairy! that's fabulous!!

RiallyEeRiaee · 08/10/2008 20:54

well done Mel. Sounds like we suffer the same. DH DESPISES Jamie (DS1 is really into Sam Stern and Dh is a bit as JO has commented on the book). TBH Gordons auto biography is just like DHs story (without the truly awful homelife). Now, whats that phrase men use? I would kick JO out of bed for Gordon

Back to it for me tomorrow. No joy at DHs hospital appt, so more weeks of waiting.

RiallyEeRiaee · 08/10/2008 20:56

as a child obviously nothing wrong with Gordons homelife now (or DHs)

isn't it funny how you can't like both? (If I had to choose any sleb chef it would most likely be James Martin anyway, but that's regional loyalty and his bum)

FairyMel · 09/10/2008 09:17

I loved reading Gordons autobiography. I love Gordon, especially in his nice crisp whites lol.

DH isnt working at the moment... he was made redundant 3 times in less than a year so has decided to retrain as a plumber! Our dream is still to run our own foody pub but hopefully plumbing should bring home the bacon in the meantime.

We are cooking for 80 people on Saturday night at a church medieval banquet... the things we offer to do!!

FairyMel · 09/10/2008 09:18

Oooh where are you from then Rially?? You a Yorkshire bird? We live on the West Yorks/Lancs border

RiallyEeRiaee · 09/10/2008 09:49

Your post made me LOL Mel (in a good way) we have a chef friend who retrained as a plumber - he is now a chef again! (and DH is thinking...) your banquet sounds good. I think DH is going to make an xmas cake for the PTFA. we live on the East Coast.

RiallyEeRiaee · 09/10/2008 14:14

Am ROFL at JOs ill-advised comment

RGPargy · 10/10/2008 17:19

Hi everyone.

How's it going today? It's been very quiet!

FairyMel · 10/10/2008 20:39

All good here. We've been busy cooking for this banquet today and tomorrow promises to be even more manic! I just have to resist picking while I cook lol.

RiallyEeRiaee · 11/10/2008 09:40

good luck with your banquet Mel & DH

RGPargy · 11/10/2008 17:40

oooo good luck!!
