Course you can (she says, speaking for everyone!) don't know about others but is really good to talk to others who understand when you aren't just a 'few pounds' overweight!

FunkyLaura · 14/08/2008 22:46

Hiya Chirpy How are you? I started the WW points last week, but im goin at it alone, I cant afford the joining or weekly fee lol also i suffer from bad agrophobia and find it hard to get out that much im roughly about 15st, god I gotta buy scales lol, I would love to lose at least 3 stone. Im doing the claire sweeney perfect fit DVD too which im finding really good

I stumbled on this site late last night but couldnt be bothered registering at the time (wanted to go to bed so I could get up and eat breakfast quicker) LOL

ChirpyGirl · 14/08/2008 22:57

Ugh, don't mention ww, online is ridiculously expensive and unless they have a creche I can't get to meetings at 10am, or 6-7pm when I still have to bf dd2 to sleep, arseholes!
Am staying at my mum at the moment so am on my brothers pc, he is on the phone so I have nicked it! it should be good this week as it is my week off, I just play with dd's and mum does all cooking and cleaning for me, its awesome, but means I only get healthy food...and no snacking cos she doesn't buy it, so hoping to drop a bit more this week!

i need to get a dvd or something, exerciing out of the home is not an option! gotta run, db hanging up, will want pc back! talk soon!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/08/2008 07:55

Morning all and have managed to lose 1ib which I am very pleased about as was not good this week. Right breakfast to cook and then meeting a fellow MNer while leaving DH to clean rooms.

Hi Funky and welcome! Hope you get on well with WW. If you need any points info, i.e. how many points something is, please feel free to ask as i have access to the foods database at my fingertips lol!

Chirpy - Shame that you cant make the WW meetings. I do attend the meetings weekly and also have the "monthly pass" which means i get to pay up front per month for unlimited meetings, get online access to their database and tracking tools, and it's cheaper than paying weekly too! Could you not try and manipulate DD2's feed/nap time to earlier or later in the morning? I know it's hard - i used to dread going to WW when i was BF because i would will DD to NOT get hungry or to NOT wake up etc because i used to hate BF in public!

I do find attending the meetings is invaluable and really gives me the support i need, as does having this thread to chat on in between meetings!!

Five - well done on your loss!!

FunkyLaura · 15/08/2008 13:22

Thanks RG, no doubt you'll get sick of me asking 'how much is this, how much is that' LOL. Or does anyone know of a site where I can download a points calculator free, without joining WW god I must seem like a tight biatch LOL.

Im deffo gonna buy some scales next week so I can see how much im loosing. I dont expect to lose much next week cause my friends are coming to stay for a few days EEEK and the booze will be flowing. Then im off on holiday for 5 days on the 1st sept so not alot will get lost then im thinking

Have a nice day everyone

So would I be able ot take DD2 to meetings? I am lookin at getting a nursery place for DD1 some mornings so might have a look to see if I can get them to conincide. I assumed no kids were 'allowed' IYSWIM!

Having good day here, mum is currently making roast duck with roast veg and there are still no snacks here apart from fruit so I am doing well!

bran · 15/08/2008 18:37

Friday seems a popular day so I'll add myself today too. This week is more than a week's loss as I was away this time last week. It'll be more accurate next week.

I would also like to say that I am almost exactly half way between what I weighed at Christmas and the weight that will move me from an 'obese' BMI to an 'overweight' BMI. Just under 13kg to go. I'll think about how far it is from 'overweight' to 'normal' when I get a bit closer to this target.

PinkChick · 15/08/2008 20:28

Hi Girls, well done on the losses every one.. inkow this thread keeps me going some days when i find it hard and ive normally given up by now!

dont shout at me, but i havent yet had a thing to eat today!, was busy ringing travel agents before i started work this morn, then when i got lunch ready for mindees and dd the builder was in, so could only get their pre made meals out, tea time me and dd go shopping and she gets sandwhich pack in there..just before i walked out to go shopping i said to dp i had a really bad headache and felt sick again, it was only when he said maybe its something you've eaten i realised!..ooops, was so tempted at shops for choc, but i felt that sickly choc would have made me worse so have just put dd to bed and will go make something nice now

we're about to change our hol booking to nicer hotel with huuuuuuuge swimming pool wrapping around the whole complex!, so desperatly NEED to lose that extra stone before we go, am off to start going on sunbeds too so hopefully a bit of a tan will give the illusion of slimness

night everyone have a good weekend.x

OP posts:
bran · 15/08/2008 20:50

PinkChick, you must eat breakfast. I was always a rubbish breakfast eater myself, but now I have to because I need to eat to take my diabetes medication. You get do get used to having breakfast after a couple of months. Quaker Oat Crunch is my favourite because it's very low sugar but nice and crunchy, and hollow in the middle so it doesn't that claggy in the mouth feeling of musli or porridge. I always find even a small bowl of musli takes forever to eat as you have to chew and chew, but a big bowl of Oat Crunch goes down really easily, like Rice Crispies only better for you. I have it with a small banana sliced on the top.

Hope you have a good weekend too.

RGPargy · 15/08/2008 22:29

Funky - WW is expensive really, but i'm lucky enough to have a DP that lets me spend £17.95 on "losing" stuff!! I dont know of a site that has the points calculator for free, but as i said, i'm happy to look them up for you.

Chirpy - yes, you can bring DCs with you!! It didn't even enter my head NOT to take DD to be honest. Other people in my group also take their DCs so i'm not the only one. The leader even brings her DS during school holidays!

Bran - I always eat breakfast. I just HAVE to! Having said that, I've been back at work for 3 weeks (just 2 days a week) but for those 2 days i just dont have time to eat breakfast before i get to work!

bran · 16/08/2008 10:03

Funky, I was tidying the kitchen the other day and found a cardboard WW points calculator. I can post it to you if you want, CAT me your address.

It's quite old as I did WW before ds came along, so it's probably about 4 years old but I think their points system is fairly consistent.

I found WW really hard work and a little dauting because I used to do it to the letter and do lots of exercise but not use the points I gained and then every week when I went to get weighed I would have lost half a pound, sometimes a pound. It used to piss me off a little that so many others seemed to be losing 3 or 4 lbs most weeks and even lots of people coming in worried because they had been naughty who had still lost a pound.

I've since found that WW isn't the best diet for people with PCOS, a low GI one works much better. I think the diabetes drug helps a lot too. I have been losing just over 2kg a month, so about twice as fast as WW, but it hasn't been anything like as hard work as it was with WW. Obviously the diabetes drugs are helping a lot, it makes my metabolism behave more normally.

Clairex · 16/08/2008 10:25

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been on all week - to be honest I've had a bit of a bad week diet wise. Don't know what went wrong with me.

Well, we went away last weekend, didn't eat a lot although what I did eat wasn't perhaps the right type of food. Nevertheless we were on holiday.

Anyway, since we've got back I have not been taking my reductil tablets - no idea why, well I did think I was awake more at night with them and just haven't got into the swing of things.

Started WW and left WW - woman leader was awful, worst I've seen. A real horrible lady.

Bought a wii fit yesterday and started new regime today. Anyway I'm weiging in at 16 stone 8lbs so nearly lost about 7lbs in 2 weeks.

Back on the regime today, tablets and working out WW points. 15 mins on wii fit everyday plus extra walking and swimming.

I'm going to read all of your news now over the last week see how you've all been doing!

Have a great week-end everyone

FunkyLaura · 16/08/2008 11:55

Thanks bran that would be great!!! Im deffo going to buy scales next week LOL

Ive been on the WW 2 weeks this tuesday coming so hopefully ive lost some weight, maybe this is wishful thinking but I deffo feel alot fitter (i excercise for 30-45mins each day, apart from a monday where I have a day off!!!) lol Ive also been eating salad and a no point carrot and corriander soup, If anyone wants the recipe let me know, the soup is lovely

Have a good day everyone

FunkyLaura · 16/08/2008 11:57

Bran...sorry to be a complete doofus...but what is CAT LOL, sorry im new to this site and not sure of the lingo yet lol

bran · 16/08/2008 13:46

That's OK. CAT means contact another mumsnetter (I'm not sure what the actual letters mean). You pay £5 for a year to use it, and your profile has to be set to allow you to receive it.

I've already paid for CAT so I'll CAT you and then you can reply to the email address in the CAT and give me your postal address.

I also have the Switch handbook (again from years ago) from when they introduced the core eating plan alongside the points plan. If you want it I can send that too.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/08/2008 13:49

Well done all and keep up the good work.

Bran I am doing a Low GI and really enjoying the meals which are too big sometimes.

Well another wekkend another beer festival, but as its raining will not be spending a lot of time there.

bran · 16/08/2008 13:58

FL your profile doesn't allow you to receive CATs. If you click on "My Mumsnet" near the top of the page and log into your profile you can change it to allow you to receive CATs.

FGMID it's really good isn't it. I had been doing it for ages to help the symptoms of my PCOS although I wasn't strict enough with it and had treats on top. But at least it meant that when I was diagnosed with diabetes my meals didn't have to change at all, I just cut out the extras like fruit, fruit juice, yoghurts, biscuits. I was reading a thread recently where my heart went out to another poster because she had been diagnosed with diabetes and her normal diet was extremely refined carbohydrate and pre-made food, and she was clearly struggling with the idea of the changes she would have to make.

PinkChick · 16/08/2008 20:10

HI

Bran, i know i must eat breakfast (and every other meal) i just forgot yesterday being so busy but have made sure it wont happen again, i felt so ill yesterday not eating till almost 9pm, so wont be doing that again in hurry, have had head ache again all day so dont know if thats related?..i did drink plenty though, so not dehydrated.

had nice day today, went into town with dp and dd, and got a lovely fresh fruit smoothy for breakfast (cherry, banana, orange and low fat frozen yogurt..mmm), for lunch had a small bun with ham and cherry tomato's in and pinched some of dd's monster much (took me back to my school days having monster munch!)

then mam took us out for tea, but i was still full from lunch, so wanted something picky, so i ordered chicken combo, which was grilled skewerd chicken (4 plain 4 piri piri) with greek yogurt and cucumber dip, salad and tortilla..i managed 2 plain chicken skewers (piri piri were too spicy for me), one tortilla and the salad before i was stuffed, but was pleased as it was prob the healthiest thing i could chose and was lvoely, no dressing or sauces and am stressed as washer/cryer broke down just before we left, but i kept on straight and narrow, am hoping for a good loss next time and i got my first comment on my weight loss today from old school friend, so was really pleased

off to watch XFACTOR now..enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.x

RGPargy · 16/08/2008 22:50

Hi everyone.

Bran - sorry you found WW hard work. I used to be an avid low-carber and as much as it was great to be able to eat cheese, eggs, lots of meat etc without having to worry about it, i did find it pretty hard work, especially when it got a bit "technical". I think that the low GI is similar to low carb isn't it? I did lose alot of weight on it tho, but i just dont think i could maintain that way of eating for the foreseeable. Hope you get on with it well tho!

Claire - sorry your WW leader was pants. I think you're lucky if you get someone that you can relate to and who you like too. Let us know how you get on with the Wii Fit. I've been semi-interested in it but we dont really have the spare cash to warrant buying it just yet. Guess i'll have to stick to my DVDs/Videos and my Step (when i actually get round to doing some exercise!!).

Five - Enjoy the festival!

Pink - well done on the healthy eating choice! i love chicken skewers!!

not sure how my weight loss will be this week. We had fish and chips on Thursday, home made curry last night and small pizza and chips tonight for tea. I really must get out of the habit of eating crap!!

SummatAnNowt · 17/08/2008 09:04

Big Brother has been helping me lose weight! When it's on at 9 I get my rebounder out (which has a weight limit of 300lbs unlike a lot of exercise equipment) and I just move on it. I've started running on it for about 5 mins at a time now (after a couple of months), but I used to gently bounce, without lifting my feet up, or walk a bit. I figured any kind of moving is better than sitting on the sofa!

We've been out walking for a few miles the past couple of days, I never could've done it 2 months ago!! The best thing is no back ache!! I am on a roll!!! Especially as dh took some photos when we were out and I CAN TELL I'VE LOST WEIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

RGPargy · 17/08/2008 10:04

Well done summat!! That's a good idea!

Seems like i'm the only lazy cow not doing any exercise. DP said that i should exercise and i would lose weight more quickly but when he said that i confessed to him that i just couldn't be bothered! It's not that i dont want to exercise - i do! - it's just that i dont have the energy. I know with exercise tho that you have to do it to get more energy but it's making the first move to do some that's the hardest isn't it. DP has now told me not to come to him and moan any more about being fat as he says that it's my own fault if i cant be arsed to exercise. Suppose he's right.

Have a nice sunday everyone.

SummatAnNowt · 17/08/2008 12:38

RGPargy - Awwww. Yes it's ultimately up to all of us, but it's also not so simple. I think it's so necessary to be in mentally the right place to be able to do it, and not just once, but over and over again.

I try not to call it exercise, but just my get moving. Even that little mental manipulation works much better. Moving I can do. Exercising can be a chore, can not show results quickly enough etc.

Look at me... some kind of guru cos I lost a few pounds! LOL!

RGPargy · 17/08/2008 21:40

Summat - that's a good way of looking at it tho! It's deffo true about being in the right place mentally to deal with "getting moving". I know i'm getting there because i'm actually wanting to do it, but it's just physically getting up and doing it that's the problem!

PinkChick · 18/08/2008 08:27

morning all

had such a crappy day yesterday ..not food wise, but we went swimming on morning..i DONT swim, but i did a little bit (think it cos of my size i dont want to look like a whale drowing[blush})..anyway, dp took dd out so i could finish getting ready and he'd saw the leisure centre scales and got weighed..hmm...on sat morn(the day before) id got onto ours to show i had gone down to 14 st5 1/2lbs and was over joyed..so i said ooh, let me get on....14st 11lbs ..was very confused, very annoyed..got home and scales were showing 14st 6 one minute then 14 st 9 the next???.so dp took them down stairs to kitchen were floor isnt wooden(tiled concrete floor) and got on there and it showed 14st 9lb..so actually i hadnt lost another 4-5 lbs, i must have not put them in my 'normal' space on floor..so now i havent actually done as well as i thought and am gutted, its all in the mind for me and seeing the lower numbers made me felt better/slimmer, but now even though its not that much more i feel pants..i did so well over weekend AND last week, but hasnt shown, nor has totm last week
