OP posts:
shirleyghostman · 05/07/2008 20:38

I am bad - don't follow my diet but

Most days nothing for breakfast, occassionally I have bran flakes, fresh fruit salad or porridge.

I then snack on a mars bar, biscuits, in fact anything sweet.

I eat nothing for lunch.

1 bag of crisps for afternoon snack or if I feel guilty, fruit.

I eat dinner and sometimes 3 eclairs or a massive slab of cake.

Drink alcohol every other night.

And I drink water & (freshly squeezed)lemon or lime juice all day.

I weigh just over 10 stone and am a size 10 to 12 depending on the shop.

Ineedsomesleep · 05/07/2008 20:39

Well today I've had 2 slices of toast with butter, a slice of melon and a cup of tea (half a sugar) for brekkie. Always have butter and full fat milk.

Beans on toast and a glass of milk for lunch.

Rice, carrots and pork steak for tea followed by chocolate icecream.

Snacked on Grapes but thats only because I feel too poorly to get to the shop and buy some mars bars or peanut M&Ms. Also had lots of tea.

Am absolutely starving after reading this though, it just doesn't sound like enough. Am off to find some chocolate.

oh am 5ft 6 9st 10 size 8-10 but with huge 30hh boobs grrrrrrrr so size 16 top

Jazminpoppy · 05/07/2008 20:47

I am 8 and half stone. Heaviest I have ever

been though! Pregnancy excepted.

People always assume that I dont eat because

im petite.

Not skinny as Im only 5ft 3. But petite

built.

My sisters find it funny coz I eat more than

both of them and they are both medium built

and slim but much taller than me!

Today:
4 cups of tea
Fruit juice
Bowl of crunchy nut Cornflakes
Two slices of toast and marmite
chicken and salad sandwich from m&s
two pears, bar of green and blacks that my best friend bought me. Bio yogurt with rasberries
half a thin based pizza with ham, cheese
and olives with a handfull of chips
and ill prob have some crackers before bed &
two hot choclates.

I am not particulaly active either.

I quite often eat same portions as my man

for dinner he is 5ft 8 and well built.

He finds it hilarious.

Does annoy me that people think I dont eat

coz im small though.

My mum is exactly the same , people are

often shocked by how much she eats when they first meet her.

I do not eat fast food though as I dont enjoy

it, also I dont buy biscuits, cakes, crisps

and hate fry ups.

I love jelly babies and liquorice allsorts

though , and drink a bottle of wine at

least at the weekend. I culd never ever go

without breakfast!! I feel sick if I dont

eat in the morning.

bluewolf · 05/07/2008 20:48

some fags. Then I get hammered on booze but luckily vomit it all back up. I think its my metabolism that really helps me look tired all the time though.

googgly · 05/07/2008 20:50

I'm thin and also tall. I always have cappuccino and a croissant for breakfast. Biscuits mid-morning usually, or whatever else is lurking in the office - birthday cakes or whatever. Nothing, if there's nothing around. Lunch is either a plate of pasta or a takeaway salad or sandwich from a cafe. Usually followed by an ice cream at this time of year. I might pick at dcs dinner when I get home. Dinner for me and dh is always salad, often with some fish or meat, followed by fruit. Average about one glass of wine a day.

I don't really eat big quantities of anything, but do eat exactly what I feel like. Lost all pregnancy weight within a month all 3 times (the third time I could put my pre-preg jeans on within a week). My dad is a glutton and very skinny, so I'm sure it's just a really lucky genetic accident. My brothers and mum are much more inclined to be porky.

Ineedsomesleep · 05/07/2008 20:58

Bluewolf, glad the Bernard Manning diet is working for you. DH always swears by the Roger Mellie's Sh£t Yourself Thin Diet. He seems to think Viz is a self help book though.

bluewolf · 05/07/2008 21:29

Perhaps I'm so thin because I'm dead? And perhaps I got dead by smug? I don't know. All I know is my newborn (3-6mths on a bad day) jeans got shrunk in the wash and they still fit, so I must be doing something right

Mercy · 05/07/2008 21:39

It's not just what and how much you eat as you know (not a criticism btw)

There's no point in me telling you what I eat tbh.

Portion size and some form of exercise is what counts I think

Judy1234 · 06/07/2008 06:59

The thin people tend not to eat fast food and most of us don't drink I think. Probably don't snack. I think the key is we don't sit down in the afternoon and open a packet of chocolate digestives and eat the lot and then miss dinner like classic dieters.

(Yes, I like brown rice which I know probably sounds very strange and also baked potato too. I did an allergy test, allergic to nothing, slightly intolerant to yeast so gave up sandwiches at lunch time and stopped feeling sleepy after lunch and my throat stopped swelling up which it does when I eat bread, sadly but it made no difference to my weight, giving up yeast).

Perhaps another difference is thin (or actually I'm not thin I'm normal healthy size for my height, never been thin) people stop eating when they're full.

googgly · 06/07/2008 07:41

That's true - I always stop eating when I'm full. I never finish the packet just for the sake of it.

SofiaAmes · 06/07/2008 07:57

I am 5'4" and 8.5 stone. I always have 2 pieces of toast with butter for breakfast and cup of tea with milk and 2 sugars. Usually eat a piece of fruit mid morning. Lunch is generally dinner leftovers and dinner is always home cooked meat/fish/chicken + 3 veg and starch (rice, potato or bread). Usually have a second piece of fruit after lunch. No afternoon snack. Dinner is as described above. Almost never have dessert. Usually have one drink (shot of spirits) with dinner. During the day I drink diet coke and/or green tea.
The key is portion control. I have noticed that my overweight friends might eat the same meal as me, but will eat twice as much, or even if they don't eat twice as much, it's definitely more. They also almost always skip breakfast and eat desserts with lunch and dinner. Also, I rarely eat pre-prepared foods. If you cook it, then you know what is in it and probably (hopefully) put less salt, sugar, butter in it. I also only cook with extra virgin olive oil and only add butter once in a blue moon.
AND I always stop eating when I am full. Even if it means wrapping up 3 tiny pieces of broccoli, I put it away for another day.

ShortandSweet · 06/07/2008 08:16

I am a fat person (size 16), and I have to say I don't eat more than the people who are a size 10.

I would normally eat 2 weetabix with skimmed milk and a banana, homemade soup and a bit of bread (no butter), fat free yogurt, and then dinner would be something like chicken/fish, veg and pots/rice.

I really don't get it. I have been eating like this for a yr now and have only lost 2 stone. I am very active, i cycle to and from work which is 30m each way, I do aqua areobics once a week and never sit when I am with my daughter. Grrrrrrrrr

ShortandSweet · 06/07/2008 08:18

Forgot to add I drink 2 bottles of wine a week. Drink lots of water, have about one coffee with 1/2 tsp sugar and 1 tea (no sugar) a day

Judy1234 · 06/07/2008 10:35

I am like SofiaA. Portions are interesting. When we went to the US we'd order one meal for the twins for one person and it would be the amounts three of us would eat at home. I say I often have brown rice with my meals ( cook it every few days and then just heat it up for 1 min so it's easy) and I pick up a handful in one hand and that's enough.

ShortandS might have some other medical reason not to lose more weight but 2 stone in a year isn't bad. Better than gaining 2 stone in a year. It's much better to have stable weight and eating healthily than keep losing it and putting it back on.

bigboobs · 06/07/2008 10:49

do any of you eat in the evening? after your main meal, I mean

OP posts:
Celery · 06/07/2008 10:52

When I was bigger, I used to snack at teatime when the kids had their main meal, and then eat a proper dinner at about 7.30. Now I have my main meal at tea time and then only have a small snack in the evening.

TrinityRhino · 06/07/2008 10:53

short and sweet
sounds to me you aren't eating enough for your activity level

eating less and less isn't the way to lose weight

HarrogateMum · 06/07/2008 10:55

I am 5 foot 11 and 10 stone 4 and a size 12. I would never say I am thin, but people think I am - its the height.

I rarely eat breakfast which is bad but cant seem to find the time with the kids! I will have something like a banana at about 10 to keep me going (or a sausage roll if I'm at work from the pie van...).

Lunch is usually a couple of rounds of sandwiches, or a salad (Greek or potato or something, but always with protein so ham or smoked salmon or chicken or something). Sometimes a bag of crisps....

Dinner is late as its once the kids are in bed so around 8.30pm - meat, veg, spuds, or pasta with a creamy sauce or takeaway curry, or stir fry - anything basically. I am then a sucker for a few cheese and biccies before I go to bed.....

If I'm trying to lose a bit of weight I tend to stop eating carbs and that works for me.

Oh and there are the 2-3 bottles of wine per week too.....

Ineedsomesleep · 06/07/2008 13:08

Xenia I visit the chip shop at least once a week and usually have a large glass of wine in the evening. I was brought up, not to view foods as good or bad but to have everything in moderation.

We usually have convenience food on the 2 days I work and cook properly the rest of the week.

S&S I think 2 stone in a year is fantastic. Have you read So You Want to Lose Weight for Good? Its excellent and has helped my DH loads.

Bigboobs, don't usually snack in the evening unless I'm PG or bfing, which seems to be most of the time just lately.

allgonebellyup · 06/07/2008 13:17

bigboobs - yes i have my tea with kids about 5.30 then i am hungry by 8 so usually snack on choccy bics plus bowl of cereal with loadsa milk..

BronzeNemesis · 06/07/2008 13:23

Too much to list. I'm not as thin as some on here (I have wide hips) but my bmi is at the very bottom end of the correct section and most of my mates accuse me of being skinny. Like fairy mum I am tall.
I dont eat breakfast
Lunch varies, latest fad is toast with cheeses and chutney.
Dinner again varies normally soemthing with veg. Lasagne etc
I snack in the evenings. Cup of milky coffee and some choclate or a bit of cake.
My goodness it sounds unhealthy but its actually pretty balanced just a lot of it. I have never dieted and I suspect that has helped my metabolism. the only time I have made an effort is post babies then I just cut down on the crap slightly.

SofiaAmes · 06/07/2008 16:15

ShortandSweet, you don't describe all your portions, but the one you do describe is twice what I would eat for the same meal. I would eat 1 wheatabix and 1/2 a banana. 2 bottles of wine a week is a lot if you are trying to lose weight (does that work out to about 1.5 glasses a night? )
I would try to reduce each portion you eat by 1/3. So if you normally serve yourself 6 potatoes, try 4 instead. If you normally eat a banana, try putting 1/3 in the fridge for the next day. 1 glass of wine instead of 1.5. etc. etc.

It's important to eat a well rounded diet, not just less food. Also, there seems to be some fairly good evidence that taking a multi-vitamin may help with weight loss....there are some theories that overeating is part of a subconscious quest to supplement nutrients that the body knows it's lacking.

shrinkingsagpuss · 06/07/2008 16:18

lots and lots nd lots and lots.2 breakfasts if I'm wokring - cereal at home, then toast at work. sandwiches at lunch, then snack with kids, then cooked dinner with DH.

If not working, bigger later breakfast, then lunch with kids (cooked), snack with kids at teas time, then cooked dinner with DH.

... and anything else I can get my grubby paws on.
