thin people ,,what do you eat in average day?

interested,,been reading the posts about what size people are and everyone is so thin....... so what do you all eat usually?

The funny thing is I never had an unhealthy diet.

My mum taught me how to cook from a young age and I never got a lot of sweets. In my late teens I was 12/14 and wanted to be thinner so I only age a bowl of cornflakes and a chicken salad a day, that was from age 19 - 21, then I met my husband and I started to eat 3 meals a day again, Not unhealthy and not takeawys and was all cooked from scratch. But the weight piled on very quick by the time I fell pregnant at age 24 I was a size 16.

I went from a size 8 to a 16 in 3yrs and ever since it's been hell to get it off.

I think that my body went into starvion mode and when I started to eat it heald on to everything. I read an artical once that said if you straved your body or didn't eat enough calories and then started to eat properly it can take your body 7-10yrs to recover.

Losing weight and/or being thin is a combination of metabolism AND habits. AND age does matter...there have been numerous studies on how your metabolism changes as you grow older and therefore you generally need fewer calories.
For example, when I was pregnant I gained 3 stone (both pregancies). I vomited non-stop through the first 4 months, but still ate ravenously and gained lots and lots of weight. As soon as I gave birth, the weight started coming off and the hunger went away. I did not diet...it just happened.
My mother was thin and never thought about what she ate all her life until just recently (in her 60's) she started putting on a little (1 stone) weight and finding herself needing to watch what she eats for the very first time.

So...some people need to do extra work to keep their weight down, but everyone can do it in the end. Just like anything else. The best thing that you can do is eat a healthy diet and establish (and teach to your children) habits that are healthy and sustainable.

I think that as others have pointed out Shortandsweet...you have made very healthy progress that you will be able to sustain in the long term.

I am not skinny (12ish - 5'7") so I'm not speaking from experience but I think that thin people who 'eat what they want', often don't want that much. I have a very skinny friend who has always been thin. When I was at university I stayed with her family and ate what they ate and lost weight. None of them were dieting. She ate normal food but stopped immediately she was full, and would say things like, 'Spanish food is lovely but I craved cottage cheese', which is utterly baffling to me!

I'm a 10/12, mostly 10 I think. I'm 5'2" and weigh about 9 stone. I've lost half a stone over five weeks and want to lose another half, but am not too fussed.

I eat, generally:

bowl of cornflakes with honey on

lunch: chicken or ham salad, or tuna mayo sandwich

tea: home-made lasagne, or spag bol, or shepherd's pie, or the like. Sometimes just pasta in pesto sauce.

A few cups of tea during the day; water with meals.

I lost the weight by cutting out the evening snacking. I didn't need it, had just got into the habit of having a big bar of chocolate and a glass of wine (with dh, who likes a drink). Once I stopped that I dropped a pound a week over several weeks (maybe two the first week).

I just make sure I've always got something to do in the evenings so that I don't think about snacking. I don't really sit and watch telly, I tend to be sewing or knitting or on here. If I get the nibbles I have a cup of tea first (just so I am putting something in my mouth!!), to see if that stops the urge!

I used to be able to eat what I liked but now I am 37 (as of today ) I do have to be a little more careful.

i'm a size 8. i am 5 feet tall and weigh 7 stone 4.

I had, today:

porridge for brekakfast, plus a cup of coffee, then a cup of green tea.

lunch: half a wholeweat pitta and a small bowl of chickepea curry

snack: 2 chicken slices

dinner: a bowl of lentil and chicken curry made with a dash of olive oil

before bed i am going to have a cup of hot chocolate.

i also do 30 minutes weight training a day.

No one left Belsen over weight tough did they no matter how strange their metabolism, how much their thyroid conditions caused it, how big their bones, how slow their metabolism or whatever their genetics. So at the end of the day if there is a calorie deficit virtually everyone does lose weight.

(the fat people move less comment of mine was based on some recently studies - the thinner people are constantly on the move, up and down from the chair, constantly drumming fingers etc - and that it was that type of normal movement rather than fixed going to the gym sessions that partly accounted for the difference in weight too)

Dreamy, I do eat lots of veg, more than fruit. My soup is all homemade with about 5 or 6 veg and my dinners in the evening have around 3 different veg. I have count the cals I eat a day and is never more than 1500.
Been to the doctors and they can't find a reason either.

I know some people say fat people just don't realise what they eat nor do they realise how much a portion is but I do and have keep a food diary for the last yr.

Just have to wait another 3 yrs to get to that size 10

Any going to get back into my positive attitude again, thanks ladies for the advice and kind words

short and sweet maybe you should eat different foods. it doesn't sound like you eat fresh vegetables. switch the 'and bread' for 'and salad' (with olive oil).

eat snacks that are fruit/veg.

drink you coffee with no sugar or milk.

you should ask a professional they may have some useful advice based on your body type and lifestyle....

Ineedmoresleep I am getting there in my head but have only gone down 1 dress size. Really was expecting more as some poeple I know have lost 5 stone in the last year (they started the same time as me) and gone from size 24 to a 14

I'm fairly slim (5'6" and 9 stone, size 10).

Yesterday(quite typical)I ate:

Breakfast: 1-2 slices of toast (DS pinched some off me) with butter and marmalade or marmite with a cup of redbush tea.

Couple of biscuits mid-morning with another cup of tea.

Lunch: French toast (eggy bread) and 2 small avocados. More tea. A few chocolate buttons.

Mid-afternoon: three or four chocolates with more tea.

Red onion tarte tatin and green beans. Lime cordial.

Glass of wine and some more chocolates

Another cup of tea.

Actually, I don't usually eat much chocolate, I'm more of a cake person.

Also, I don't eat enough fruit and vegetables, but I have Crohn's disease, at F&V often give me stomach cramps.

Gooseyloosey, you don't eat enough! Have you tried eating more to lose weight? I know it sounds a bit topsy turvy but I know lots of people who have eaten the same as you and then eaten more, and more healthy, and then lost weight.

ShortandSweet, you say you have lost 2 stone which is really good, but surely you must have changed shape too and that must make you happier?

DH has exercised, cut out the crap almost completely and watched his portion size over the last few months. He didn't weigh himself at the start and hasn't weighed himself since but has lost 5 inches off his waist and has lost his double chin. This has obviously made him feel fantastic. I think that weighing yourself when trying to slim down can be disheartening.

xenia what are you talking about of course age makes a difference. its not an excuse but if you kept your exact same eating and exercising habits throughout life you will most likely get fatter wtih age.

my sister is the most active person on the planet, she does winter and summer extreme sports, is a professional ballroom dancer, works full time, is the last one still out every night and any spare second she has she runs to the beach. i on the other hand spen as much time as i can sitting or lying down, yet she is larger than me. its just the way we are built.

i am a size 4-6 (the uk doesnt always have the size that i am in pants at stores).
i don't really know what i eat on since it really varies each day and i never actually pay attention.
i would like to say i eat cereal w milk for breakfast, fruit for snack, salad or sandwich with protein like fish, chicken or cheese for lunch, snack such as nuts, dinner of fish or chicken with veggies, salad, and rice. possibly an apple or more cereal as snack before bed.
i probably snack more than i am accounting for, on weekends i usually eat pastas and breakfast that has eggs.
i am pg for the 3rd time and have yet to purchase maternity clothes...
it is allllll down to genetics since i look just like my great aunt and my body shape and pregnancies are just like hers...

I'm 5'8" weigh 9 stone size 8 bottoms 10/12 top (due to boobage)

before dd22m I could eat what I wanted and stay slim however I've always been an erratic eater ( can't eat when stressed and anxious binge when chilled) and I've been veggie for 21 years.

Now it's a different story I developed a cake habit when breast feeding and I have to be careful I think my metabolism has slowed down a bit unfortunately.

usually I eat

toast/ryvita with hoummus/marmite for brekkie plus a banana

brie/cheese brown cob sandwiches for lunchor greek salda or left overs from previous nights dinner sometimes a bag of crisps and 3 piesces of fruit.

Snack on fruit through the day, biscuits at work

tea could be vegie shepherds pie, dahl,roated veg in pitta bread with chick pea salad, jackets with cottage cheese and salad or similar. Always home cooked and fresh.

drink a couple of glasses of wine about 2 nights in the week and more at the weekend and have about 6 cups of tea a day plus plenty of water.

Exercise cycling and yoga.

Xenia, what do you meant 'Fatter people do not move as much'. I work out nearly every day, I never stop and I think that comment is really unfair.

My mum is a size 10 my brothers wife is a size 8 and they both eat double what I eat in a day. So there you go some people no matter how hard they work at can't get skinny.

OMG - how do you do it. I only manage breakfast a couple of times a week. Soup and fruit for lunch. I will confess to chocolate on the way home but I often have no dinner. No more than a glass of wine a night and am I skinny? I am not!

Those of you who eat lots, do you exercise lots too?

I don't age is any excuse for being fatter so not relevant on the thread.

I'm 5 foot 4 or 5 and I think about 9 stone and size 10.

The umb comparison with the slimmer sister is very interesting and I think you do see slimmer people sitting down just with the cup of tea and larger ones having the cake too. Larger ones constantly grazing and smaller ones just eating their meals without really thinking about food in between.

I certainly agree with the comment on exercise. They say part of the reason we are getting so fat (more people on the planet now have health problems from obesity than from starvation which is an astounding change on this world of ours) is compared to the 1950s we move so much less. Even housework involves less action. My mother walked me to school when I was 5 - about 3 pretty long streets - a mile? - pushing my sister in the pram. Then she walked home. Then she walked back up at lunch time and brought us home for lunch and then back and then she collected me when school ended 5 days a week (until she got a car a few years later). My ex husband at primary school was much the same. In 1960s he walked to school and then walked all the way home for lunch, then back and then back again end of the day.

Fatter people do not move as much. Slimmer people supposedly even just move more when sitting such as tapping fingers.

I eat whatever is at hand if I get hungry ie leftovers mostly. I find it difficult to be bothered enough to make myself a proper meal if it's just me on my own.

I put my figure down to genes, I take after my dad.

I was brought up not to waste food either, it would just never occur to me to leave 1/3 banana, what is the point? Just buy smaller bananas or have some "exercise" with your DH to burn it off if you are that bothered.

I thought it had been proved time and time again that people who are slim have slower metabolisms. It stands to reason that if your heart is pumping blood around a body that carrying too much extra weight, it would have to work harder and therefore your metabolism would be faster.

Nobody said not to try, or even commented on it.

Ineedsomesleep. I was brought up to not waste food. The point of putting the piece of the banana in the fridge was to not throw it out. It's nothing to do with being worried. But as long as we're talking about that, it's not productive for people who are naturally able to stay thin to tell people who aren't how easy it is for them and that it's all about metabolism so don't bother trying anyway. Some people will have an easier time of staying thin than others. That doesn't mean it's impossible. Good eating habits can be learned and are very important to weight AND health.
Being thin is not just a visual issue. It is also a major health one. But at the same time is super important that one stays thin while staying nutritionally balanced.

I think food diaries are an excellent idea. They really do help you understand what's actually happening. Also cooking everything from scratch is another useful tool.
