Nowadays I see so many posts about weightloss and then about the weight loss jabs and pills, has anyone lost weight without using the medication ? I’m really big for what I was before and uncomfortable but feel like I’ll just fail also taking the jabs medication is not an option for me

OP posts:

So it’s basically paying for information that’s freely available? Apart from the tests of course, but the vast majority of people don’t need testing to know they should eat healthily, we know it, we just can’t do it. I can’t see from what you have said how signing up to Zoe makes a difference at all. There are loads of free apps that can track your intake and break it down for you,

FWIW I’m not here to convince anyone about ZOE. The OP asked about losing weight without WLIs and I gave my experience and what worked for me. You asked about ZOE and I gave you my experience and what it does.

The links give more info including answers to the questions you infer in your latest post if you want to read more.

I think Zoe started out with good intentions but quickly morphed into another capitalist venture. Their seed packs are criminally expensive.

They are expensive hence my not buying them. The initial outlay was expensive too but I saved birthday and Xmas money to do it. ZOE isn’t without its criticisms but that’s how it should be IMHO; companies should be held accountable.

However, OP asked about losing weight without using WLIs and I gave my experience.

(I got to know about ZOE during COVID times and found their app to track spread quite interesting.)

Yeah sorry I wasn’t criticising you, I respect Tim Spector for raising awareness of UPFs. It’s just I have a friend that did it with the blood test etc, it just all seemed very complicated to still tell her what seemed obvious that she didn’t digest carbs as well as other things or something to that effect, still seemed to come out with sugar bad, protein and fibre good, but in a much more long winded way lol.

I am so sick of the endless pushing of these jabs on here. People always want an easy quick fix regardless of long term consequences. I am currently losing weight without jabs. I stepped up my exercise routine which tends to get pushed to one side with raising children whilst working full time. Also, cut out the snacking and healthy food only. Its easier now that my daughter is an older teen as she is more into healthy living too. Yes its hard but once the weight starts dropping you feel so much better about yourself, appearance and health-wise, and thats motivation in itself.

I honestly think the WLI have saved my life. I don't really want to go into too much detail but I have hard to control type 2 diabetes (Strees, sleep, all affect.) and an eating disorder. You would think it would be enough for me to stop eating badly when my feet started to go numb but the ED was too powerful for me. Six weeks ago my endocrinologist put me on Mounjaro, for weightloss, blood sugar control and to also stop the massive food cravings I got that are well known, from some other medication I was taking.
In just over a month I had a blood test and my Hba1c has come doen from 80 to 49. I am not experriancing the ED thoughts anywhere near as much and as such have cut out a load of bad eating.
Sorry, did give TMI but just wanted to show that WLI are not just a 'easy quick fix.'

Fuck me I never thought of that. Cheers.

No one is pushing them, but everyone should be able to tell their story as you are able to tell yours, without people like you trying to silence them.

im glad you can lose the weight without them honestly. But many of us couldn’t. Millions in fact, and we all feel better when we lose weight, not just those who did it without medication to enable it.

becaude you can push through on the drugs. You can still make bad choices. Eat too much. The fact we don’t tells you everything you need to know about why we couldn’t lose weight without them. Thay it wasn’t we were lazy and greedy.

i wish you well, I hope you get the weight off, and importantly keep it off. But if you are reacting badly to hearing about the meds, are sick of it, consider it pushing tnem, then I’d suggest not reading the threads rather than trying to silence people,

you don’t get to take our voice away because you don’t like it.

And why do you think it’s a quick fix. Are you uneducated on the drugs, do you think they melt the fat off. You have to diet and do exactly what you are doing.

or is it you can’t afford gnem and resent the fuck out of people who can.

I’m not “pushing” them but honestly when you try them and see the weight fall off and stay off with no effort (my experience, not everyone’s) you just think whhhhy would you do it any other way. I only had 2 stone to lose, I’ve chastised myself for years that I can’t keep that 2 stone off (I can lose it, it’s the maintenance I struggle with) now I inject a minimal amount a week and have the body shape I wanted and without any over thinking of diet. I’ve always exercised, but struggled with snacking. Honestly just wanting to share the good word so to speak, it’s been life changing for me.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 27/07/2026 22:45

I get that they are great for many people, so no objection to people talking about them/their benefits. But how is it helpful to talk about them, or in some cases repeatedly talk about how difficult it is to lose weight without them, on a thread where the OP starts by saying she CAN'T take them, and is specifically asking for advice on/experiences of losing weight in other ways?
There are plenty of other threads where posters are looking for advice/positive stories of taking WLIs, but surely there's still a need for posters who can't/don't want to take them, for whatever reason, to also be able to get support here.

caveheatblank · 27/07/2026 22:56

@ahagwearsapointybonnet yep that’s completely fair. I have to say I often just open up the threads in my “I’m on” without paying much attention to the title, go straight to the newest posts and respond to the last post or 2 (if the thread has been running for a day or 2) so I completely forget the context of the thread!

Yes. Lost the 19lbs I’d been trying to lose for 5 years. Took 5 months. I found a really supportive weight loss group with a fab lead. The weight loss plan is supported by the NHS. I continue to attend the group to embed the good habits.

Can I ask which group this was please?

FloozyMcGee · 27/07/2026 23:04

So many times! In my experience, the real issue is keeping it off! The problem for me is always the cravings, and food noise. I've NEVER succeeded in keeping it off (64 years old now). If it was extreme exercise, I've broken my ankle or gotten overuse injuries. Then came menopause which seemed to make it impossible to lose any weight at all, and rheumatoid arthritis which makes exercise beyond the minimum pretty impossible. Now with the jab it stays off and I only count calories if it seems to drift up a few pounds.

KindlySurfiingPlatypus · 27/07/2026 23:06

Yes but very slowly.

I have nearly got to the top of the waiting list and hoop-jumping stages to get the jabs via the NHS.

The hoop-jumping stage has involved using an app called Oviva which you have to be referred to by your GP but you can get referred to even if you don't meet the criteria for NHS medical support, to just use the learning and monitoring functions. That stage has been genuinely useful at getting me to rebalance what I eat and I have lost about 8kg over 6 months which feels like really slow progress but is better than nothing.

People successfully lost weight on many occasions before these drugs were invented. It's definitely possible. I have previously lost way more weight than I am currently trying to lose but I did it in an unhealthy way that I have no wish to repeat. One of the things my coach has said is that the quicker and easier the weight comes off, the quicker and easier it piles back on. Slow weight loss is more likely to last

OhThePotential · 27/07/2026 23:08

I can’t have the jabs due to a very high family incidence of pancreatic cancer.

I lost weight by keeping a food diary and counting calories about five years ago but put it all back on pretty much straight after reaching my goal weight.

I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been now and for the first time in my life really don’t want to do it all again. Since hitting my fifties food has become more important to me, somehow.

Amiunemployable · 27/07/2026 23:26

Of course. I've lost two stone since the beginning of June. Just calorie counting. Would like to lose ar least another two.

Countrycritter · 28/07/2026 21:48

Yes I have! I have four young children (age 5, 3 and 14 month old twins) and knew I wanted to lose weight without the costs and potential risks of WLI. I have so far lost 1.5 stone through intermittent fasting and cutting out snacks. Most days I will have a small meal/smoothie at lunchtime then a main meal with the family at 5pm. Being strict with my times has led to sooo much less mindless snacking in the evening. If I fancy something sweet I will have it as pudding after my main meal.
I was 13st 2lb back in March after putting on 2 stone through pregnancy and postpartum. When I finished breastfeeding I was determined to feel healthier and be more active for my kids. My aim is to get to 10st by next Spring, but also I am determined to not put it back on so if it takes longer that’s fine.
