I ended last year in a very unhealthy place, around five stone over where I should be (and even that is still taking me to technically "overweight", though in the past I've looked healthy and relatively slim at that weight).

I promised myself this would be the year I change things, and I've lost two stone since January. However, I've still got a lot to go - I'd like to lose three stone more - and I'd love some company!

A lot of the threads are full of people who are much less fat to begin with, and I find it slightly dispiriting to see people starting their diets already weighing less than my goal weight.

SW: 111.05kg
CW: 97.75kg
GW: 80kg

I'm 5'7.

Welcome, we have very similar goals @jiminycricketz my sw was approx 15 stone - I am a bit under 5 ft 4

@Monkeytennis97 your daily swimming sounds amazing. You prompted me to have a look at my nutrition app settings. I actually had my activity set to moderate- I am averaging 14000 steps at the moment but maybe I should switch to slightly active. I had a mess around if I set my weightloss goal to 2lbs per week and activity level as sedentary my calorie allowance would only be 738!!! Thst is 100 calories per day less than i was having for my strict fast 800 days last week 🤯 no wonder it’s hard to lose weight!

How are you finding it losing weight as a shorter person? That’s what I find so hard! Because of my height my deficit calories seem to be basically nothing 😱 I am determined to make a lifestyle change and shift some weight but I’m also determined to not restrict food so much that I never enjoy anything

Monkeytennis97 · 08/06/2026 15:54

@Clearingaspace 738 calories😳!!! That’s crazy low. Surely your TDEE is around 1500 minimum (mine is 2200 due to my larger size currently). I couldn’t do anything lower than 1250 and even then I couldn’t stick to that tbh. Last time I lost 6 stone I was still on about 1550 a day at 12 stone and still losing weight (I just stopped tracking and well after 6 years back to where I started).

Clearingaspace · 08/06/2026 16:18

@Monkeytennis97 I know it’s bonkers! I guess part of the problem is I don’t really know how active I am, and I am naturally a sloth unless making an effort 😂 the last time I did properly lose weight to a healthy weight was actually doing fast 800 (but closer to 1000 calories) and I was able to stick to it somehow for months. I guess that’s why I am tempted now. But weight does seem to go back on very fast if I don’t calorie count.

@jiminycricketz i seem to lose 1lb a week on around 1600 calories if I also create some additional deficit by adding steps - I have been gradually upping my daily steps each week to 14000 but don’t think I will go any higher as not sure it’s sustainable ( I also saw a video where someone claimed 14000 is the day burning sweet spot and believe everything I am told 😂). Something I was doing but have kind of fallen behind on, is trying to eat foods with high thermic effect like plain chicken breast or nuts rather than upfs - so these foods take longer being digested and the body uses up extra calories, also fibre rich foods for similar reasons (the body can’t access all the calories) when I can. I am probably not explaining it well tbh! I think if you can it’s good to keep calorie up high if possible.

I think I have got a bit impatient after 2 months of being pretty sensible so thats why I am experimenting with mixing up things with some high calorie snd low calorie days but avoiding just going for it with full on fast 800 as I know the weight will likely go back on otherwise.

No news here, just frantically busy at work, and non stop at home too Confused feels like life is just passing me by and I am still fat - @Clearingaspace I'm looking into WLI at the moment but want to get MIL's funeral out of the way first (in case I start WLI before that and have dreadful side effects Blush) - no date yet though, the death certificate hasn't been issued yet and we can't get it booked.

Honestly I don't get a minute to myself most days, and DP is very little help; he tells me and tells me how he wants to lose weight, but trying to get him off the sofa is like trying to get a limpet off a rock! One of our kitchen shelves fell down over the weekend - nothing dramatic, one of the fixings had come loose - it took him hours to get out the toolkit and fix it back, and in the meantime I was trying to cook, clean, put washing out, put washing away, entertain the DC etc etc... the actual job took him about 15 minutes and he STILL left all the stuff from the shelf for me to put back on it, then went off to watch yet more TV whilst I ran around like a blue arsed fly Angry

I really have no idea how to organise my life better so I actually have time to get things done properly and maybe even <gasp> have some leisure time! I may hand the job over to ChatGPT and see what it can suggest...

I'd like to join if that's ok?
My starting weight on January 19th this year was 106 kg.
My current weight is 87 kg.
My goal weight is 75 kg.
I'm 55 years old and about 171 cm tall.

I'm currently 106 and would love to see the 90's - I have the same goal weight as you although I'm shorter
You are my inspiration

If love to join the group - I was 118 kilos and dropped down to 104 and then after a trip with lots of walking 98.
So my first goal is to see 104 again

I'm just doing lots of small changes to move more and eat a good range of whole food with a focus on fibre. I ask do some resistance workouts at home.

5’3””
19st 8 lbs
initial goal 18st

Using IF and finding it easy and more comfortable physically. Trying to drink two litres daily.

Biggest problem is food choices, partly due to stress, partly very bad mindless habits with no sensible planning.

Lots of aches and pains are limiting exercise. Gradually getting into better routines.

Clearingaspace · 09/06/2026 10:23

Welcome @ResultsMayVary sounds like a really good plan

@ChantelleGarvey i haven’t really tried ChatGPT but heard some really good things about it on here in terms of weightloss and getting fit. Definitely worth a try! I 100% feel you on feeling overwhelmed with house and work - my technique with house is to ignore it and go for a walk which is clearly not good advice 🤪

Clearingaspace · 09/06/2026 10:25

Well done on IF @FitIntoMyJeans and there is a chance thst may also help with aches snd pains 🤞

I feel the same, it’s hard to do new exercise then you feel so bleh in your body! Good luck to you, how do you find intermittent fasting?

I struggle with portion control rather than choices (though I often make bad choices too!). It’s so hard when you get in from work and you’re starving to not make a mountain of food!

FitIntoMyJeans · 09/06/2026 21:04

Today was a mixture of wobbly food but much more exercise as we are moving furniture and decorating. The trick is not to get a latte when out, followed by a meal deal. Feel quite good, nevertheless.

Clearingaspace · 11/06/2026 07:47

@FitIntoMyJeans good luck with your move. Lattes and meals deals are my weakness too. I am still having lattes must days although I have swapped to cappuccino to save a couple of calories! I know I need to start swapping to herbal tea or something as the calories in all my milky drinks really add up.

@jiminycricketz my problem is grazing, not feeling hungry for proper balanced meals then grazing some more on “carbs that aren’t v nutritious.

how’s everyone doing - I am in the starting to get bored of calorie counting phase. I haven’t really had a fast day so have kind of stayed the same this week although in a deficit. Should probably try today.

Monkeytennis97 · 14/06/2026 14:27

Yay 2.5lbs lost this week

CW 17 stone 12.4lbs

Clearingaspace · 15/06/2026 08:02

Amazing @Monkeytennis97 - well done on moving down to 17s!

my update, I think I am down 1.5 ish but my weight is yo-young a bit. Sw 213lb cw 193 pleased to hit 20lbs off

Monkeytennis97 · 15/06/2026 15:41

@Clearingaspace that’s brilliant well done! Can’t wait until I’m down there too!😊

Clearingaspace · 16/06/2026 12:56

You will definitely be there soon, you are doing amazingly. I am also shortish so don’t carry weight well.

I am away from home and in holiday mode - there aren’t the most amazingly healthy options so feeling hungry and snacking - it’s not even been 24 hours 😂 alarming how quickly I slide off. Trying to decide if I should log calories or not, probably I should, although I was going to take a couple of days off, as otherwise I might go to one extreme or the other.

hope everyone is doing well and have a great week

ChantelleGarvey · 16/06/2026 23:36

@FitIntoMyJeans my food choices can still be terrible - mainly because I have to feed everyone else before me, and then I'm left eating toast because I'm so tired/ hungry/ fed up Confused

MIL's funeral is on Friday, I just don't have the headspace to consider healthy eating etc till after then. SheMed etc keep sending me emails about the new Wegovy tablet - clearly I am their new target audience after I looked into the jabs but never went ahead!! But will think about it again at the weekend...

Countrycritter · 17/06/2026 12:55

Hey!
Been a bit MIA in past few weeks, life is busy and been celebrating my birthday.

Had a few evenings of feeling a bit crap after a difficult day where I have binged, but also the good days are outweighing the bad.

I had finally reached my first mini goal of losing a stone. Really pleased and shows that the work is paying off. Definitely given me motivation to keep going.

Stats:
Height- 5ft 4
SW-13st 2lb
CW-12st 2lb
Goal weight-10st

Next mini goal is to reach 11stone something’, so not far to go!

Clearingaspace · 18/06/2026 19:52

I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible tomorrow @ChantelleGarvey Flowers

Well done @Countrycritter thats a great update to have reached a stone off and hope you had a happy birthday 🥳

i haven’t really counted calories this week, I tried not to go crazy and use it as an excuse to eat everything. I am having Mac and cheese and a gin and tonic tonight though. Let’s see what the scale says! If I can be bothered I might retrospectively add calories.

hope all well
