I ended last year in a very unhealthy place, around five stone over where I should be (and even that is still taking me to technically "overweight", though in the past I've looked healthy and relatively slim at that weight).

I promised myself this would be the year I change things, and I've lost two stone since January. However, I've still got a lot to go - I'd like to lose three stone more - and I'd love some company!

A lot of the threads are full of people who are much less fat to begin with, and I find it slightly dispiriting to see people starting their diets already weighing less than my goal weight.

@PipkinOfPepper I've pointed DP towards a meal service such as Gousto for his own meals, as everything I cook is apparently wrong and he doesn't want to eat any ready meals (even the high protein ones aimed at gym goers, which would be much better for him) - just working out what to do with my food really! I simply don't have time to cook separate meals for everyone, and maybe taking one or two meals out of the equation would actually give me some exercise time...

I'm in awe of your food spreadsheet!! WW, SW etc all bang on about recording every mouthful, in case you 'forget' to record, for example, a big bowl of chocolate mousse Blush

@Monkeytennis97 oooh, clever idea about ChatGPT! Does it automatically remember all your figures, or do you have to create something within it?

@Countrycritter my DTs are almost 11 now and I vividly remember the utter horror of the tiny years. DTS1 was just a whirlwind who NEVER SAT BLOODY STILL, wouldn't sleep, was a terrible eater etc. I take my hat off to you for managing 4 kids, I would have gone utterly loopy with more than my two to deal with!

Monkeytennis97 · 06/05/2026 11:48

@ChantelleGarvey it remembers and tots all the calories up. It’s not as accurate as a previous app I used to use but I’m happy with that. I also put in screenshots from my watch and it’s very encouraging!

Countrycritter · 07/05/2026 14:34

So didn’t manage to get home from work until 8.30pm last night so had a late dinner, which I don’t like doing but weighed this morning and was 12st 8lb. So have managed to lose my first half stone! Don’t feel/see much change yet but going in the right direction.

Clearingaspace · 07/05/2026 18:33

Well done @Countrycritter !

I am almost a month in so I haven’t lost this week but actually I feel like my tummy is a tiny bit flatter -maybe wishful thinking! Fingers crossed the scale goes down tomorrow!

oh I just did this workout and it was 20 minute full body! Because it was short I felt like it got my heart rate up too

@Monkeytennis97 great that chatpt is helping! i feel like getting into the nitty gritty through logging is what keeps me on track (until I get bored!) . My brain can’t really cope with too much variety so I am spending all my phone screen time on logging calories or listening to health YouTube videos while I am doing kitchen cleanup or cooking.

hope all doing well

Woo hoo! 10lbs down now in 3.5 weeks. I can feel it when walking and enjoy being more active now. Going to start swimming from Monday too. Still a long way to go but happy so far 😊

Clearingaspace · 11/05/2026 08:20

Well done @Monkeytennis97 and great to be feeling the benefits already!

Scale has started to creep down for me again but had a little whoosh yesterday- really hope it’s not a fluke and will be the same tomorrow!!

Monkeytennis97 · 11/05/2026 10:32

Well done @Clearingaspace!😊

Been celebrating my twins first birthday this weekend just gone so have been enjoying lots of yummy food but staying sensible with portion sizes.

ChantelleGarvey · 11/05/2026 23:18

Happy birthday to your twins @Countrycritter - mine are almost 11 now - in some ways it seems like their first birthday was yesterday, in other ways it feels like about a hundred years ago Confused

We had sun over the weekend (but I kept my coat on whenever possible Grin) - can't believe it's almost the summer and I am still fat, albeit slightly less fat than last summer! I do find it hard as DP is so inactive and resists any attempt to take the DC out for any exercise, even a short walk. He never used to be this bad - he went to the gym consistently for a year or so and was doing well - then hurt his back (not at the gym, on a night out!) and hasn't been back for over two years. He just wants to spend his weekends lying on the sofa snoring, which is annoying and also pretty frustrating when you have DC who want to go out, and you're trying to be more active yourself.

I was talking to a school mum yesterday who did a marathon walk last year, and I was considering whether I could book one for next year and train for it, give me a target to aim for Hmm - the issue is that DP just won't be supportive in terms of walking with me and/ or looking after the DC when required. He gets so grumpy when I try to do something just for me, but I can't think of any equivalent challenge I could take the DC to!

Today I was a dismal failure at remembering to weigh in Blush - we had to be in school early and my brain gets so flustered at remembering anything out of the ordinary that it forgets everything else - but will try tomorrow!

Oake · 13/05/2026 10:48

I've lost another 5lb over the last 2 weeks, the initial excitement has worn off now I'm 3 months in and the weight loss is slowing down and getting more steady but I'm committed to keep plodding along.

SW: 24st 11
CW: 21st 6

Exercise wise I've been doing these YouTube videos, they are VERY american 😂 but about at my level and I like how convenient it is to just stick some joggers and a t-shirt on and do a quick workout in the living room.

Well done @Oake thats still a very decent weekly loss!

good luck with your weigh in @ChantelleGarvey

I’m a bit fed up as my weight has definitely slowed a lot- I had a good 2lb loss the other day but it’s back on again 😩 so annoying! Need to really try and stay the course though and remember it’s definitely water weight as I have been on track!

Sunshineandrainbow · 17/05/2026 09:50

Morning all please can I crash in and join you.

Weighed a few weeks ago and was 16. 10, was so upset I haven't weighed again. I lost a few stone in 2025 and it is all back on. People start commenting on my weight loss and I seem to think I am cured and don't need to control my food anymore and it all piles back on.

I have a big birthday in a few weeks and I am absolutely dreading eyes being on me.

Any tips gratefully received!

Clearingaspace · 17/05/2026 10:56

I have fallen off wagon after positive comments in the past it’s so weird isn't it.

if it’s in a couple of weeks I think doing things like eating lots of fruit and veg and drinking water, so your skin looks well. You don’t want to stress yourself out by crash dieting. Maybe don’t change your calories too much but just up the protein and reduce the carbs etc to help feel trimmer? I haven’t been able to get my calories as low as I want to lose quickly, but I feel a lot better and more in control.

Sunshineandrainbow · 17/05/2026 13:52

Thanks @Clearingaspace I can definitely focus on those things and like you say I will feel better and not sluggish.

I am glad you understand about the comments because when I was typing it I thought this is ridiculous. I wish I knew what it's about. I don't like the attention losing weight brings and I don't mean people fancying me I mean people normally women commenting on it. I like to blend into the background but even as over weight I don't blend in. When working in A and E in my previous job I used to get comments from patients about being overweight which used to make me sob. So I guess I just hate any comments about my weight good or bad which probably comes from what feels like a lifetime of struggles and trying everything and buying anything to try and help me lose.

Clearingaspace · 17/05/2026 22:12

Yeah I can relate to this as well, i once lost quite a lot as a percentage and if friends told that me people were commenting to them on my weight loss who I didn’t really know, it made me feel a bit weird. On the flip side I can imagine family or friends are now thinking oh dear she’s put on a lot of weight, and I dont like that either! I guess this is an advantage of possibly losing it more slowly so hopefully people don’t notice as much! It’s definitely a mind game though.

ChantelleGarvey · 23/05/2026 20:42

It’s strange isn’t it @Clearingaspaceand @Sunshineandrainbow- I hate being (very) overweight and the (mostly negative, for me) attention that comes with it - but then I’m also worried about losing weight and people commenting on it! For me it all stems from my teenage years when I was very unhappy both at home and at school, and just tried to blend into the background; attention was usually a bad experience and I tried to avoid it as much as possible. Logically I know it’s silly and that people usually don’t notice/ care that much - and I really need to lose some weight for health reasons - but I think maybe subconsciously it doesn’t help…

Unfortunately my mind has been elsewhere this week as MIL died unexpectedly - I was in bits when I heard as she was so lovely - now the grief settled down a bit I’ve started to think that I absolutely must tackle my weight, otherwise I will end up with many more health problems. My GP suggested WLI before (but sadly didn’t say the NHS would pay for them!) and there’s a decent Wegovy offer on for Blue Light cardholders, which I’m considering. It does feel a bit like cheating but I’m just not succeeding on my own, and perhaps my old and knackered body needs a kick start?

ChantelleGarvey · 23/05/2026 20:43

Also, it has been far too hot for even me to wear my coat all the time, and I’ve not enjoyed people being able to see me coat-less - I’m like a snail out of its shell 😂

Monkeytennis97 · 24/05/2026 09:54

I agree with everyone here, it’s trying not to stand out too much isn’t it. I’ve hit the 1 stone lost now in just over 5 weeks.

SW 19 stone 5
CW 18 stone 5
GW 12 stone 7

Clearingaspace · 24/05/2026 13:52

So sorry to hear about your mil @ChantelleGarvey i don’t think WLI are cheating at all and there are a lot of positive stories at the minute about improved health outcomes. It’s definitely something I would look at doing but I keep deciding to try without and not making much progress!

well done @Monkeytennis97

so for 3 days this week I was in the 199s - 198 at one point - but annoyingly I am back at 200 today - think it’s the heat (or maybe the glass of red wine yesterday..)

sw April 8th 213lb cw 200 lbs

I am very tempted by the jam donut on our dining table as technically one each in the pack, but I am planning to make some healthy dark chocolate cakes for dh so will try and stick with one of those!

FitIntoMyJeans · 24/05/2026 18:39

I’d like to join in. I have so much to lose that I just give up at the thought of it. My goal is to get into supermarket jeans, even if it’s the biggest size. And be able to sit down without them cutting me in half.

It's so hard in the warm weather. I wear a thin jacket even when I’m boiling. Or stay in the house.

Clearingaspace · 25/05/2026 10:21

@FitIntoMyJeans thats a great goal - welcome. I have been reading that tu jeans are flattering. Summer is always the trickiest. I looked like elphaba today as I had long black leggings under a khaki green dress with a split, but it’s a lot more comfy than chub rub from bare legs. To be fair I get that at any size.

Midlifeshenanigans · 25/05/2026 21:03

Can I join too please. I have 3 + stone to lose and now I will have to be in this for the long term. My diet isn’t that unhealthy but my portions are too large and menopause means that my weight is creeping up all the time.

CantEvenToday · 25/05/2026 21:57

Hello all, can I join?
I have about 4 stone to lose, but I've been doing the head in the sand thing and haven't weighed myself. I'll do it on Wednesday morning when I'm at home (currently at my boyfriend's).
I'm 55 and 5ft 4", and mainly size 18. And I don't want to get any bigger.
I have high BP, medicated, and am on HRT. And that's been an issue with losing weight.
I'm a single mum, work full time with an hour plus commute (sometimes up to 2 hours!). Over the past 3/4 years I've had every single stressful event.... all the big ones. Currently in the process of selling the "family" home and buying somewhere for me and my kids.
So that's me..... sort of!

This sounds like me, I feel so exposed if I don't have a cardi or jacket on, it's like a comfort blanket with me melting underneath, dreading what to wear tomorrow to work!

Welcome everyone
