My weigh in for motivation

Hello19834 · 26/01/2026 11:08

Hello
I've been told by my doctor I need to lose weight due to being pre diabetic and also asthmatic with a heart murmur. The extra weight is absolutely doing me no favours whatsoever and I know it is time to take action NOW. No more excuses and procrastinating. The time is now so I can be the healthiest version of myself.
I'm 43, 5"7 and 17st 10lbs as of today. BMI 38. Obese. I also suffer anxiety and mild depression.
I'm going to come back weekly and weigh in here as I know I'm more likely to stick to it if I've written it on a public forum. It's taken me courage to be open about this after living in denial for so long 😪 only myself to blame!
Anyone on a similar journey feel free to weigh in with me weekly if you want to.
Thank you

Fancy some company? Out stats are very similar.
I was “being good “ last week and gained 2lbs

aibutohavethisusername · 03/02/2026 21:31

I’ve lost just over 5lbs since the beginning of January now.

Any tips to share? I’m struggling. I think the dark mornings and dingy days aren’t helping.
I want to snuggle under a blanket but still emerge thin!

Hello19834 · 19/02/2026 15:00

Hello
So sorry I meant to post here last week. Now 17.0.
Had a bit of a bad day yesterday as it was a family birthday and had cake so trying to be extra careful today! And going to the gym tonight too hopefully.

Hello.
Sorry to hear that, it is definitely hard work and I lost all motivation yesterday but I am focusing on summer and how I want to feel better in myself and that's spurring me on.
I've found a filling breakfast like porridge helps keep me full so less likely to snack mid morning.

And I'm also trying not to eat much after 7pm and if I do, something small.

Please don't feel like you need to blame yourself - you've decided to take a step in the right direction. Make one or two changes at the times as its proven to be more sustainbale than trying to change everything at once.

Hello19834 · 23/02/2026 08:17

16.13lb. Woop!
I'll just keep weighing in on here if that's ok with anyone who is around as it helps me to feel accountable if i make my weigh in public (if you see what I mean 😂) and that motivates me to work harder for the coming week!
Determined to see a noticeable difference by summer ☀

What have you been eating?
I'm obviously it trying hard enough as im 17 8

Hello19834 · 23/02/2026 23:23

Hello
I've been having a bowl of porridge with skimmed milk in the morning and if I need a mid morning snack then it's an apple/banana or a yoghurt. It's very tempting to reach for the biscuits. Lunch soup and 2 slices wholemeal bread and a slim fast chocolate bar as a snack to keep me going. Dinner a salad with tuna or chicken. Also trying to drink lots of water too.
That's an example of what I've been having. I've had the odd cheat day and had crisps and stuff I shouldn't but I've had to be really careful the next day to compensate.
I've noticed the weight loss is slower now I'm on week 4. It came off quickly for a start so I know I'm going to have to stay focused and committed to it to keep seeing results.
You'll get there

Try the 5:2 diet, it's the only thing that worked for me (although I know do every second day so 3:4 one week 4:3 the next) but was still losing when i was doing 5:2 (just slower) i also find on the fast days I can go up to 900 calories and still lose but do try to stick to no more than 1600 on my higher calorie days x

aibutohavethisusername · 24/03/2026 01:50

Well done, you’re doing great OP.

Hello19834 · 24/03/2026 13:30

Hello
Sorry I meant to come back and update here before now. We're currently trying to sell our house and I've had chaos with all the viewings and estate agents messing us about. Anyway, weighed in yesterday and am 16.8lb. The loss has averaged out at 2lb a week approx as I've been on it now about 8 weeks. I've had a few blips along the way with family celebrations and meals out which is so hard when you're trying to stay on track and you have a sweet tooth!!!

Myswweetchild · 24/03/2026 13:36

@Hello19834 well done ! You're doing really well and an average 2lb a week is the best way to go.
Keep at it - I know it's hard as life has a tendency to get in the way, but best to plod on.
I think when we give up, we're just back to square one, and no happier, so keep on keeping on 💪

Hi, I'm just looking fir a durable place to post as I have had to move to healthier eating. I've had over a year of inactivity due to heath and caring responsibilities, and had started eating really unhealthily. I've gained weight, I've gone up a clothing size and they are now getting tight, and now my knees are packing in so that's finally motivated me to change. I started yesterday with a good diet/menu. I ate loads but felt hungry and think it's my body adjusting to the absence of the unhealthy things. I've also returned to the 16:8 as I liked that in the past just as a lifestyle choice. I'm off an age whew I really need to get on to of this. I have scales but haven't weighed myself in years. I'm not going to though, I want to just feel better and fit comfortably into my clothes, so that's my measure.

Hello19834 · 01/04/2026 23:35

Thanks all!
@dudsville welcome! Well done for making a start. You will feel better for it! I've stayed the same this week but I've had my period and always feel so bloated so that's probably why I've not lost any. I'll keep going and hope for a loss next week when I weigh in again

OP posts:
dudsville · 02/04/2026 20:16

Thanks! I'm only 5 days in to a low fat diet, that's the only one for me that works. I think I'm getting through to a more comfortable place with the change in diet!

I feel your pain re the impact of periods on weight loss. I'm well into the other side of all of that and I so appreciate the consistency day to day and week to week.

Hello19834 · 09/04/2026 09:45

Hello!
2lb down from last weigh in. It's been a tough week with all these Easter eggs!!!!!!
