Anyone want to join me in some motivational supportive chat.

I'm 56 and 3.5 stone overweight. I'm 5'2" and weigh 13 stone

Depressingly I've lost this before - in 2019 I lost 2 stone and felt much better and was really disciplined ... and then I stopped and the weight crept back on.

I feel fat, frumpy, unhappy in my clothes and my middle spare tyre feels awful.

If I could lose 2 stone again I'd be thrilled - 3.5 is the dream.

Last time what worked for me was healthy breakfast, green smoothie for lunch and balanced tea. In between meals veg sticks or an oat cake as a snack.

My downfalls are savoury stuff - crisps, cheese, savoury biscuits.

I've been diagnosed as pre diabetic with high blood pressure which I'm hoping will be the kick up the arse I need.

This time I'm trying to up my game with exercise - I have 'treated' myself to about elliptical machine. Horrifyingly on the first day I could only do 2 minutes - I'm up to 15 mins now - I am aiming for 30 mins a day of elliptical/walking.

Anyone want to join me and share what is working for them?

I've been diagnosed with high blood pressure too & I've found it really hard to lose weight this time. In my fifties too. Lost 4 stone a few years ago. But its hard to shift now. Been going to gym & long walks but not doing well.
Did you doctor give you medication for your high blood pressure or offer you the weight loss injections ?

RoosterCogburn · 20/01/2026 23:25

@ChasingRainbows123I've been on medication for my BP for about six years - took a while to find the right one but it’s really controlled now.
I’ve never been offered WLI

I've just been diagnosed with high blood pressure at a health check & had blood pressure monitor for a week to take readings & its still high. So seeing a GP as I'm 4 stone too heavy. You see things about people being offered weight loss jabs if obese & high blood pressure. Have you just been advised to do it yourself with healthy eating & exercise ? Hows it going for you ?

Irememberwhenitwasallfieldsroundhere · 21/01/2026 12:19

Hi everyone, sorry to hear about the high blood pressure. I had a high reading at the GP about 6 years ago but it was just after a smear test, urgh, so almost not surprising. I then measured it at home for a couple of weeks and it was fine, it turned out to be white coat syndrome. I know that might not be the case for everyone though. I do need to take mine as I don't have a recent reading.

Can I recommend my MyNetDiary? I've got it on my phone (there's a free version but I'm paying) and have been logging everything I eat on that and it's brilliant. You can scan labels and see how many carbs / fat etc you've had in a day. I've stuck to 900 cals a day or under since 3rd January and I'm 10lbs down so I'm happy with that. I am much, much fatter than most of you so still have a long way to do. I'm also doing dry January and finding that completely fine, unusually, but I think it's because I'm very motivated to lose weight.

SO much of this stuff is about what's in our heads isn't it? I don't even know what I weigh because I know that knowing will massively demotivate me as I'll see it as insurmountable so DH weighs me and tells me what I've lost but not the actual numbers. Cowardly but it works for me. At some point I'll ask but not yet.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 21/01/2026 13:58

I lost 3.1 kg this week, so 7 kg (15.4 lbs) so far. I'm very happy with that.

MooFroo · 21/01/2026 18:44

Hi all :)

another 50 year old here, around 14 stone and 5,5 tall, with big belly so I’m around 4 stone overweight, pre diabetic and with high blood pressure - no medication yet.

Tried WLI last year and didn’t really lose much, less than a stone in 3-4 months but with awful smelly sulphur burps and the cost, decided to stop.

I’ve been doing a carnivore based diet for the last two weeks and honestly it’s been great. Totally different way of eating with the focus all on high protein and high fat which I always thought was the enemy! No carbs AT ALL or any fruit or veg - and despite my initial trepidation, I have actually stuck to it and enjoyed it. I get full very quickly and most importantly have cut out all snacking. As a prediabetic, I’m finally starting to understand a bit more about how sugar spikes work and the impact of insulin, and honestly didn’t realise how much small and regular eating of crap food impacts your health and weight.

Have lost 5lbs in the last two weeks and feeling good, so hoping to continue on a mainly carnivore way of eating- love that I don’t need to weigh or measure or track anything. As long as I stay focused on good quality high protein meat and good quality fats, and continue to see the steadiness in my blood sugar then I am good!

good luck to us all ladies!

Absolutely agree... Its very. Much a mental thing.
What kind of things are you including in your 900 calories?

I can't weigh either as it sends me spirling and not beneficial.

I had an awful day at work and planned to come home and binge but I haven't.
Dinner is Vege sausages, sprouts and noodles. Not great but better than what I was planning for the binge!

Irememberwhenitwasallfieldsroundhere · 21/01/2026 20:58

@Sunshineandrainbow today I had some cheese for breakfast because I’d run out of my breakfast “muffins” then for lunch I had smoked trout mixed with creme fraiche and horseradish.
Supper was 200 cals of McDonalds cheese only because dh came home with it

yesterday I had a breakfast muffin
a banana
Lentil soup for lunch
lobster bisque for supper
96 cals of chocolate bar

soup and salad mainly!

The breakfast muffins are a pack of sausages, cut small and cooked, 12 eggs, beaten. You divide the sausages amongst 12 muffin cases then add beaten egg to each case, then put 200g grated cheese on top of each muffin, and bake at 180 for 20 mins

Irememberwhenitwasallfieldsroundhere · 21/01/2026 20:59

And sorry you had an awful day at work. Me too, I cried! I hope tomorrow is better

Sunshineandrainbow · 21/01/2026 22:25

@Irememberwhenitwasallfieldsroundhere those muffins sound really good thanks for sharing.

Really enjoyed my dinner tonight. It hit the spot! I added a spoon of cottage cheese which was quite nice with the sprouts!

I cried too and it wasn't pretty! So glad I have friday booked off!

RoosterCogburn · 21/01/2026 22:48

So sorry to those that have had bad days.
Mine was a difficult one in work and that’s when I fall down and eat crisps and biscuits.
I’m finding meticulous planning and tracking has helped me not to make rubbish choices.

I have meetings that happen six times a year - there’s one tomorrow and then one in two months. I’m envisaging myself walking in to the March meeting a stone lighter than I am now as an incentive.

That sounds like a great motivator.
I've got a small break in May, but my main aim is to have lost all the weight by my son's graduation in July.

“200g grated cheese on top of each muffin” can’t be right. I assume you mean spread across all 12 muffins, but that’s still a lot of cheese. How about mixing the eggs with a little feta or cottage cheese instead.

It’s across all the muffins! And it only comes out at 170 cals a muffin.

Morning all,
I have some progress to report!
12.7 this morning. I think i was 13.2 back in November. Its been slow progress but I'm glad I've stuck at it. As I said upthread I've been using the Freshwell App.
This thread really helped me last week as I was feeling really fed up and unmotivated so thank you everyone!
My next goal is 12 stone which I haven't been for about 5 years.
Hope everyone is okay today.

TheaBrandt1 · 22/01/2026 09:21

I’m following those online tips to eat the same meals. So I’m having omelette mid morning soup mid afternoon normal dinner with no carbs for dinner kitchen closed at 7. Literally nothing else. Plus daily cardio. If that doesn’t work I give up.

Sunshineandrainbow · 22/01/2026 17:57

Not bad here.
2 satsumas
Lentil soup and crackers.
Vege sausages, few potatoes, sprouts and carrots
4 sugar free digestives
1 hero twirl

RoosterCogburn · 22/01/2026 20:00

Porridge and berries
Protein smoothie with green veg added
Cottage pie with a sweet potato topping and green beans

Snacks
Pumpkin seeds
Cherries
2 boiled eggs

OP posts:
BrusselsPate · 22/01/2026 20:26

Breakfast, Greek yogurt, berries and chia seeds
Lunch, homemade chicken salad
Afternoon snack, mixed nuts
Dinner, homemade mince with mushrooms and carrots, and braised cabbage.
Treat, 1 glass red wine with dinner because it's the end of my working week 😁

RoosterCogburn · 22/01/2026 22:50

I saw a reel on Instagram (disclaimer - may be incorrect) where you cut a piece of string that was the same height of you. Then you halved the string and put it around your waist. If the ends didn’t meet you are at risk of developing all kinds of horrid weight related problems.

Depressingly, I just did it and I either need to be 20 inches shorter or reduce my waist by 10 inches

Hope we’re heading into the weekend positively.
I’m going out for lunch but am thinking no starter or pudding but other than that eat to enjoy.

Weekends are tough. Glad to be working this evening so that keeps me out of the home kitchen!
