Anyone want to join me in some motivational supportive chat.

I'm 56 and 3.5 stone overweight. I'm 5'2" and weigh 13 stone

Depressingly I've lost this before - in 2019 I lost 2 stone and felt much better and was really disciplined ... and then I stopped and the weight crept back on.

I feel fat, frumpy, unhappy in my clothes and my middle spare tyre feels awful.

If I could lose 2 stone again I'd be thrilled - 3.5 is the dream.

Last time what worked for me was healthy breakfast, green smoothie for lunch and balanced tea. In between meals veg sticks or an oat cake as a snack.

My downfalls are savoury stuff - crisps, cheese, savoury biscuits.

I've been diagnosed as pre diabetic with high blood pressure which I'm hoping will be the kick up the arse I need.

This time I'm trying to up my game with exercise - I have 'treated' myself to about elliptical machine. Horrifyingly on the first day I could only do 2 minutes - I'm up to 15 mins now - I am aiming for 30 mins a day of elliptical/walking.

Anyone want to join me and share what is working for them?

2.8 kg gain for me according to my completely unreliable scales. I need to focus on the trend as I know I've eaten right this week.

Enrichetta · 04/03/2026 16:17

This doesn’t seem likely, @MrTiddlesTheCat - I think you need new (electronic) scales!

hopefullygoingdown · 04/03/2026 16:50

no idea on accurate weight now - put on a kilo in a week, lost the next day (thank you menstruation/ menopause) so need to wait for next week

I have relatively new electronic scales. I think they just struggle to decide my actual weight because it's so high. I can step on them 10 times and get 10 different readings, all within a 6-8 kg window. They work fine for normal weight DS and DH.

I just take the first reading, even if I think it's wrong. It's helping me to not be too fixated on the weekly reading, which is why I'm still using them.

Enrichetta · 04/03/2026 18:48

Instead of focusing on weight, could you measure your waist?

Granted it’s less accurate but it might give you focus other than weighing yourself?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 04/03/2026 19:18

That's a good idea. I'll give that a go. At the moment I know I'm still losing as my aches and pains are getting less.

Keep going, you know you are doing well and that's the main thing.

Good day here, walk after work and stuck to my food plan!

Taking each day at a time.

RoosterCogburn · 04/03/2026 20:16

One day at a time is absolutely right

And also, if a day goes wrong not allowing that to be the end of everything.
I read an analogy that said if you dropped your phone and there was a tiny scuff on the edge of the casing you wouldn't then smash it up - same for dieting, one blip doesn't mean we should then self sabotage and give up.

It took me ten years to put on three stone ... hoping it won't take ten years to get rid of it - but equally it isn't going to be lost overnight

Yipppeeee made it through the working week and stuck to my plan.
Now to just get through the weekend when I normally treat myself with food!

RoosterCogburn · 06/03/2026 19:40

Well done!
Same for me - hoping to prep and plan meals for next week as well

Do join us - if you don't want to weigh you could measure in non scale victories.
Clothes fitting differently, waist measurement etc

Try changing the batteries @MrTiddlesTheCat. Mine go a bit crazy when the batteries are running low

Interesting weekend for me. I was away at a conference and ate an awful lot more carbs than I probably have for the last 20 months or so and I haven't exercised. I felt absolutely awful yesterday. Bloated, foggy headed and my joints ached.

Already back on with my clean eating plan. Hoping to feel better tomorrow. Bags of salad veg prepped, huge tray of roast veg planned to cook tomorrow and some herby sweet potatoes prepped today. 4 gym classes booked.

I've lost half a stone this year which is on track for my aim for the year.

babasaclover · 08/03/2026 21:40

Week 1 - 184lb
Week 2 - 184.6lb
Week 3 - 183.6 lb
Week 4 - 180lb
Week 5 - 179lb
Week 6 - 177.8lb
Week 7 - 176.2lb
Week 8 - 174.8lb
Week 9 - 174lb
Week 10 - 172.6lb
Week 11 171.8lb
Week 12 169.8

2lb loss for me this week - biggest loss in a week so far. And for those people working in old money that’s just over a stone in total.

Very happy with that. When I started a stone felt impossible, now I’m focused on losing the next stone.

I find meal prepping really helps me. Even if I don’t decide what order we’re having them in, having meals planned for Mon-Fri really helps me stay on track.

I’ve one of two different lunches every day - again, removing choice has made it easier for me to stay on plan.

OP posts:
MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/03/2026 19:28

I always meal plan. There's no way I'd manage without doing it. We'd be living off nutella on toast. I always cook extra portions, which we have for lunch the next day.

RoosterCogburn · 10/03/2026 21:12

Had a rubbish day in work today - normally I would have consoled myself with chocolate and crisps and probably a can of coke.
But I resisted, managed to focus on the fact that if I stay on track I could hit the elusive 10 stone by the end of September
It feels impossible, but then a stone of weight loss felt impossible a few months ago and I've managed it.

It’s hard isn’t it.
My natural reaction when I’ve had a shit day is to turn to food.

Well done @blizymitzy - it's so disheartening when the weight loss plateaus - onwards and downwards for you!
