Oh my goodness, I’ve gone off plan today for the first time this year. I have kept to my no sugar rule but I’ve just been hungry all day. I’ve been eating slices of toast, cereal, watermelon, and snacking on crisps.

I had a text from DD saying her dog had had a suspected stroke and she had to take him quite a few miles to a specialist vet. I texted her and said I’d go with her but she was already on the road. Anyway, it wasn’t a stroke but he might have a problem with his spine and is on painkillers and has to be monitored. As DD was driving home from the vets, she got a call from DGS‘s school saying he’d been sick and would she pick him up. All in all it’s been quite a worrying day and I wonder if that’s what sent me into an eating frenzy which of course I now regret. Or maybe that’s my excuse and I was ready for a bit of a binge day. Thankfully it was nothing like my old binge days when I could eat an amazing amount of chocolate, cake etc and gain 3 lbs or more quite easily. At least if I see a gain on Sunday it will be deserved.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/03/2026 21:15

Oh poorpaws me too, maybe there is something in the water! I ate a bar of very delicious dark chocolate with orange, and it took me over my calories so I didn’t have dinner (which I was annoyed with myself over because I was having a delicious potato bake with bacon and Boursin cheese 😋) which would have just about broke even…. Except dh had had a rubbish day so he bought wine so I have now had wine!!! I am so weak in the face of Sauvignon 🤣

anyway, I’m off now for five days, what a lovely treat as I had leave to use up. I’m having a haircut tomorrow, I never get my hair done, and have a lovely few days to tidy the house, garden and just chill. Feels like a real treat as it’s a bonus! and when I return on Wednesday I have only a week and a half left at my job.

back on it tomorrow. Potato bake can wait till tomorrow, and I plan to go for a nice run in the morning if it’s not too wet.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I’ve not even bothered to try to count my calories today, it’s been horrendous. I’m still hungry and I’ve just eaten an apple so I’m going to bed early before my lack of willpower takes me to the dark side.

lovely to hear you’ve got a bonus break, enjoy!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/03/2026 22:07

Don’t be too hard on yourself @poorpaws, remember you have had a brilliant year and even today you have not had sugar. You are an inspiration!

@thenewaveragebear1983 you have been so supportive this year, I couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/03/2026 17:52

I just could not stop eating today, I was really tired and just ate loads of gluten free bread and cheese, and then some chocolate. My dinner is also going to be super calorific as it’s potato bake with cheese and cream. It’s purely hormonal as I came on today so I just decided in the end to go with it for one day.

I had a haircut, it’s been so long. I had forgotten what it feels like to actually feel nice and feel like I look nice, that sounds really sad when I write it but I have really neglected that side of my life for a long time now. I came home and tried on a selection of dresses for this do next weekend and they all fit which is a miracle, so now I have a couple of options.

I’ve had my hand operation date confirmed this morning, 24 March, woohoo!

I’ve been frozen to the bone all day, I’ve just not been able to get warm. As soon as DP left at 4 I went to sleep and I’ve only just woken up. I’m really hungry.

todays eating went better than yesterday but I don’t think I can make any sort of loss this week which is a shame. Ah well onwards and downwards eventually.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/03/2026 18:32

I have as well poorpaws. It must be the damp in the air I think, even when the sun was out it was bitterly cold and windy. That’s great news about your operation, and good it’s not long to wait.

Beautiful crisp cold day here today. I went for a walk with my friend, and ran-walked 5km with my youngest ds. Did a bit of gardening. Had a nice nap watching Stacey Solomon. All in all, a pretty good day.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 14/03/2026 19:09

I’ve been frozen again today, not quite as cold as yesterday but I still haven’t been able to keep warm.

my food was good in the day but hasn’t been so good this evening. I don’t think I’ve finished eating yet, I’m just wanting comfort food (but still not chocolate etc because I don’t want to break my record).

DD arrived with a lovely plant in the most gorgeous plant pot and a big candle for Mother’s Day but also an Easter egg way before Easter 😱. She has a small home and wanted DPs egg and mine out of her way. She wouldn’t take her egg or the children’s so I have so much chocolate in my house.

im planning a quiet Sunday tomorrow although DD wants us to go out for breakfast so we’ll see what happens. I’m not bothered about the breakfast as it will be a lot of calories. 🤷‍♀️

poorpaws · 15/03/2026 19:01

I’ve been completely off plan today. We went out for breakfast which was extremely calorific 🤦 and I haven’t don well this afternoon either. Whether I can pull this back before the end of next week I’m not sure, but I doubt it.

at my weigh-in this morning I lost quarter of a pound 🤣 which I’ll take because I thought I’d have my first gain of the year.

food shopping tomorrow morning so lots of fruit and salad will be bought and nuts and dried fruit for a no sugar/flour biscuit recipe id like to try.

i hope you had a good weekend, ive had a really nice Sunday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2026 19:15

Me too, I’ve had a lovely day but I have eaten so much and now eating chocolate and drinking wine 🤦‍♀️ I will not be seeing a loss of any sort on the scales. I know I say this every week but I really do need to stop messing around and sabotaging myself. We have a a fancy family celebration next weekend but it will be very posh food not beige buffet, and wine. But otherwise I have literally no excuse, I am just dithering around and repeating every single week. It’s boring me now and I need action. i had 3 excellent days this week, then spoiled it all by just eating so much chocolate and crap.

I'm not sure if any of you have read a book called "crucial influence" but it's all about behaviour change. Changing your environment etc. to make things easier.

For example, things I've done. I still buy some of the crap for my partner and son (much as I wish they'd eat more healthily) but it all now goes in drawers so it's out of sight.

My weights are in the room I sit in during the evening so I see them as I'm sitting down then am more likely to do that 30 minutes of weight lifting.

I joined here for social support on weight loss and I do this daft thing of rewarding myself with £10 per lb lost just to spend on myself. Some fancy tea is normally my go to thing but I've also treated myself in other ways. No comment. 😜

I keep reflecting on my "why" for weight loss too. And did some reading up about methods which might help me and why. I'm a scientist so it all appeals.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2026 17:27

That can all go totally the other way though @Lemonthyme- hide the snacks/treats - still know exactly where they are. I even buy things I can’t eat (GF) and will still find ways to eat things if I need/want them. What I need is to not need or want them 🤣 Weights in the living room- if I am not able to/feel like working out, I really don’t want my evening to be spent feeling guilty and like I should be lifting weights when I finally get to sit down in the evening. To be fair exercise is never really the issue for me, I walk the dog every day and I fit in my run and my classes whenever I can, if I miss one it’s because of either family logistics or protecting my health/chronic fatigue. If it works for you, great, but it wouldn’t work for me

i had a nice day off today, although I am really struggling with palpitations the last few days, they are thundering away. I met my old colleagues who have now left my workplace. I had a salmon and lemon mayo sandwich on GF bread, very tasty and stuffed with salmon. Menu said 670 calories which I thought was reasonable for a big lunch.

tomorrow I have a speed awareness course in the morning 👮 then I plan to do a decent length run and some housework as I am back at work on Weds. shopping comes tonight , menu is all planned - I am really hopeful for a decent week this week at least until Saturday when we are out

I was only giving examples of how I'd applied positive friction to my life and positive nudges. The book is intended for behaviour change processes and is well researched. You would choose actions which work for you. Not emulate those which work for me.

If you're happy with your current behaviours then great. You don't need my advice. Nor do you need to laugh at me.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2026 18:49

@Lemonthyme I didn’t laugh at you 🤷‍♀️ I said it wouldn’t work for me. Neither would paying myself £10 every time I lost a pound. It’s great if it works for you.

I’ve received a telephone call this afternoon and I’ve now got to go for a pre-assessment at the hospital. I’ve got to be there at 8:30 and it’s over an hour to get there so goodness only knows what time I’ve got to get up. apparently the assessment is one hour long and they asked hundreds of questions.

I have also heard that my operation is at 12 or I should say we’ve got to be there at 12 on the 24th of March. I hoped it would be a morning op, but there’s nothing I can do.

Today was going quite well until this evening, yet again! And I know I’ve not finished eating because I’m still hungry.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2026 19:26

Oh @poorpawsthat is annoying, but it will all be worth it once you’ve had it done 🌺

As I said, I just gave examples of what worked for me. What works for you will be different.

Before dismissing the idea, which is based on lots of behavioural science research which has been proven to work, take a look at this. It summarises the six levers you can use for behaviour change, whether they are for you or for others. It even has an example on there for weight loss.

6 sources of influence worksheet

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2026 21:22

It’s a bit weird that you’re heavily promoting a business leadership book on a diet thread tbh. The three examples you posted wouldn’t work for me. I don’t want to read your worksheet.

I'm not heavily promoting anything.

Ultimately though, losing weight comes down to behaviour change and most diets fail to address that. GLP1s fail to address that but force behaviour change which is why people mostly gain weight after stopping.

The link was only to a free resource if you did want to give it a try. It's nothing I'm linked to. If you don't. Fair enough. But I'm using it for losing weight now and have used it successfully for stopping drinking alcohol.

Advertisers use things like nudge (which is some of the underlying behavioural science of this work). But that's another good book if you want to understand how people change their own and others' behaviour.

I wish you well on your journey.

Such a nice day today, the sun was shining and everything just feels better when it’s sunny ☀️I was actually feeling quite unwell this morning as I had a rotten sore throat all night, so I took the dog out, did my speeding course, and then moped about not really deciding what to do as I didn’t want to waste my day off doing nothing. In the end I took a Sudafed and decided to go out for a gentle run with permission to walk if i needed to, and I’m very glad I did as I felt much better. For lunch I had a big portion of chilli that I batch cooked last week and had loads of veg, this evening we are having spicy rice again as the children loved it and it is dead cheap and makes tonnes. I do 1 cup of dry rice which is supposed to be 4 portions but it will do 6/8 I think, and I add loads of extras like onions, mushrooms, peppers, peas (all frozen), 3 eggs, seasoning and soy sauce, big handful of spinach at the end, and then will slice up some chorizo and add that to the top for them but I probably won’t have that. It’s one of our current faves and it’s nice as the kids actually willingly eat some veg 👍

Urgh I have been really unwell the last few days with a gritty throat and headache, it’s been affecting my sleep and generally making me feel rough. I’ve been getting out for walks but otherwise not doing too much. I was hoping to feel better for the weekend but I actually feel worse today than yesterday! Food has been ok and actually this morning I weighed and I have lost a pound and a bit which is good.

We have a really fancy night out tomorrow for my MIL’s 75th birthday which means nice posh food and probably lots of wine, however if I’m feeling rough still I might not drink much. Otherwise no weekend plans

@thenewaveragebear1983 sorry to hear you‘re not well, it sounds nasty. I hope you feel better soon and enjoy your posh meal.

my eating hasn't been good, I seem to permanently want to eat and I don’t feel full. I still haven’t eaten anything sweet but I’m still managing to eat loads of rubbish, crisps, mini cheddars, popcorn etc.

i had a lovely day out in Totnes two days ago with DD. It’s about ten years since I went there and I used to go every week. We had a pub lunch and stupidly I ordered fish, chips and mushy peas. The fish looked huge on the plate but was mainly batter and underneath was a minuscule piece of fish. For some strange reason which I still can’t fathom I ate the batter which I never do. Anyway it was very overpriced and not very good. During that evening my tummy was upset and I kept re-tasting the batter, the grease upset me I guess. Lesson learned, I’ll choose something like a sandwich in future.

im a little bit down, eating far too much and i feel quite volatile and keep trying to keep my temper as DP is driving me crazy. Hes not here today as he’s having a new front door fitted.

im very near the end of my no-sugar plan and ive kept to it, it got easier as time went on as I didn’t even think about chocolate. Also its only a few days to my hand operation where I have to starve from 6 am so I’m not looking forward to that and apparently it’s incredibly painful. 😱

poorpaws · 22/03/2026 12:35

The penultimate week of my three month plan has not gone well! I’ve gained a whopping 2.75 lbs. I haven’t eaten chocolate/biscuits/cake/sweets but I have eaten out three times this week and I didn’t make the right food choices apart from skipping dessert and wine. I think the main culprit was that I bought a load of different nuts, seeds and dried fruit for a healthy no flour, no sugar, biscuit type recipe which I didn’t even make. What I did do was have a bowl (or two or three) of all of the above which I munched with gay abandon. I knew I’d gain this week but was surprised at just how much.

ive got nine more days to go and then at least I’ll have kept to my 90 day plan which seemed so daunting in January.

my plan now is to get through this week without another gain and then review again after Easter. Because of my operation on Tuesday I will be having DP and DD cooking for me and I know it will be easy to snack in the evenings if I’m even slightly hungry, bored, in pain.

the old me would have berated myself but I’m actually being kind to myself. Ive got a lot going on atm and one week I ate too much and gained weight 🤷‍♀️

I hope you are doing well and enjoying this beautiful sunshine.
