Sharing mounjaro pen

Userjal · 31/07/2025 21:24

Hi! I’ve been on Mounjaro for a couple of months and have been really successful with it, I’m still on 2.5g and comfortable with this, my husband now wants to start so to split the cost we are planning on me ordering a 5g and taking half a dose each. Now I know we shouldn’t do this but I just want to know if anyone on here has had any experiences of doing this. Thanks

Why can’t he order his own?

dontcomeatme · 31/07/2025 21:29

Ooohh following, me and OH had this discussion the other day but weren't sure if it was the "done" thing. We're both eligible for buy online but it would obviously save us quite a bit sharing the cost.

Userjal · 31/07/2025 21:29

Well he can of corse but as a household we would rather spend £140 than £280

This is the same with us, he did the questionnaire online with a reputable pharmacy so he does qualify

Yep, same situation. And I read that you can just purchase extra needles so there isn't any risk at all really.

the only thing I’ve read which is making me wonder is that once the skin is pierced some of the blood can pull back through into the pen, it’s obviously a tiny amount as it came be seen

I think no medical person is ever going to say that this is a good idea. You’re technically increasing the risk of infection by putting more needles into the drug solution in the pen. That’s one of the reasons that the golden dose is frowned upon, but lots of us do that. So I can understand your thought process and would probably consider it myself in your shoes.

Foreverm0re · 31/07/2025 21:35

No. Just don’t. Ffs 🙄

HansHolbein · 31/07/2025 21:38

If the medication has been prescribed to you only, then no.

WeAllHaveWings · 31/07/2025 21:39

First you should know it is illegal to give someone else your prescription only medication

It means whoever is not prescribed will not have access to support from the provider if they have any concerns

Also you will need to both use syringes as there is a risk of back flow into the vial if taken directly from the pen

It could also get very confusing each of you going up doses at different times/speeds depending on both your responses to the medication.

SweetFancyMoses · 31/07/2025 21:42

Sounds like a good idea to me. But I’m very laissez-faire.

Doidontimmm · 31/07/2025 21:43

It will surely only work whilst on 2.5ml which people don’t last that long on. It seems pointless really.

Why would you think that? With a 5mg pen they could just take 30 clicks each and each get 2.5mg. With a 7.5 they get 3.75 each and so on.

Macarena1980 · 31/07/2025 21:49

I’m currently doing this with my DH, he doesn’t have as much to lose as I do and I was put on a 7.5mg pen before I felt ready to move up so he’d take 2.5mg and I’d take 5mg. Then when I moved up to 10mg he took 2.5mg and I moved up to 7.5mg. You can find tables telling you how many clicks to turn the pen for the correct dose. Working great so far, my husband has nearly reached his target after just 10 weeks or so.

Doidontimmm · 31/07/2025 21:51

I stand corrected then!

Thank you for your comment! Do you use a syringe to draw it out or use the pen and change needles?

You’re increasing the risk of infection.
He will have no provider support should he have an adverse reaction. It’s not a drug prescribed to him he absolutely should not be sharing yours

JeannieJo · 31/07/2025 22:14

I definitely wouldn’t. Risk of transmission of any blood-borne viruses. Not good practice.

Squishymallows · 31/07/2025 22:15

Absolutely don’t do this

Radioundermypillow · 31/07/2025 22:17

Seeing as everyone on here on Mounjaro seems to order extra needles and use pliers to get an extra dose, I can't see why this would be an issue!

Just out of interest and not being goady or dumb but how is it different to having unprotected sex and catching and infections, virus etc

Sharing the same needle isnt a good idea.

Just to be clear we wouldn’t be sharing the same needles as have lots of spares

We just change needles on the pen, we inject at same time. I’m really carefully to use antiseptic wipes before injection on top of pen and on injection sight. We haven’t used the golden dose yet, as haven’t needed to. If we get to that stage we’d consider using syringes. You’ll get loads of people saying don’t do it, but nobody is ever really able to give a good answer.

Just to clarify we are using separate needles.
