Flaming Healthy June!

Healthstartshere · 31/05/2025 20:30

June arrives tomorrow. I’m planning a super healthy (but realistic) month and would welcome anyone who would like to join me on 30 days of self improvement.

My aims are weight loss and cultivating a healthier body and mind. I plan to do this by adopting a healthier diet, reducing calories, increasing exercise, reducing alcohol intake, being kinder to myself and enjoying more fresh air and sleep.

I am jotting down a plan of how to do this right now (whilst finishing off the crisps). Come and join me for mutual encouragement of the likeminded, whatever your personal goals for June! 😊

Sorry you’ve been ill too @Healthstartshere Hope you’re feeling better soon. I’ve struggled to get back on it after the bug I had but have made a meal and exercise plan for next week.
How’s the physio going @Monvelo ?

Monvelo · 15/06/2025 07:01

Errrr... I've not done any! I'm away with my sister. I'll definitely do some back bends before we get in the car to head home today, thanks for holding me to account!

Monvelo · 15/06/2025 07:11

Ok I've done some bends while waiting for coffee!

Poisonwood · 15/06/2025 10:02

@Monvelo ive always found waiting for the kettle to be really good for physio movement. I also regularly practice balances there.

It was pouring here yesterday but I had a really delicious, long, yoga practice and we also went out for a rare meal with friends in the evening. I didn’t eat anything during the day to give myself some wiggle room with the menu, also left half as it was filling and I wanted to enjoy (most) of an ice-cream sundae for dessert. It feels really positive that I can enjoy food and not feel deprived just making some tiny tweaks. Today I’m having porridge, a chicken salad at lunchtime and beef stew tonight.

Monvelo · 15/06/2025 20:30

Unfortunately the physio I have to do can't be done waiting for the kettle, it's got to be done in a big block that takes 20 mins or so, in order to get full leg trembling muscle building! Done today's lot though and intending a healthy food week full of goodness. Is it week 3 already?! How?!

Healthstartshere · 16/06/2025 10:14

Thanks @Redcase! That’s great you have a plan for this week. I still feel pretty yukky but life must go on so I’m back working (from home) today and hoping I will feel normal soon!

You are acing it Poisonwood, glad you made room for an ice-cream (my favourite too 😊)
Did you have a nice weekend away @Monvelo ? It’s always nice to catchup with friends.

I weighted myself this morning and after a good loss whilst sick I seem to have rather dramatically put on 2lb overnight! Hopefully a blip. Quite cross about if - I cooked a rich meal for Father’s Day last night and ate it even though I didn’t really want it and didn’t even enjoy it. Really dumb of me but I thought it would spoil the occasion not to take part in eating it. I never learn. Green leaf day here today I think! This virus has knocked my sleeping and cranked up my anxiety so I’m really just trying to focus on finding calm at the moment.

week 3 folks - let’s get going!

@Healthstartshere I bet your body is holding on to more weight as it can tell it’s run down from being ill. Focusing on getting your equilibrium back sounds like the best idea definitely.

I had a quiet day yesterday, binge watched Cranford - only twenty years late to it 😂. Made good food choices though and today I’m 2lbs down which I’m very happy with but don’t really believe lol. Looking at my stats, that’s me down 2 stone since January and my bmi is now 20…and most importantly my muscle mass has increased significantly too. It’s all the yoga 💖.

Healthstartshere · 16/06/2025 22:14

Good on you @Poisonwood I have literally never been BMI 20! I can only dream. I do love yoga though, do you do any particular kind? Have you been practicing a long time?

I go to Ashtanga and Vinyasa classes. I particularly love Ashtanga as I can feel progress and I have to concentrate at it which is a great escape from life! I also love that the teacher comes around and helps with positioning, as if they are interested in your progress. I actually go early before work sometimes but still feel to dizzy/off to go tomorrow. Enjoy your 🧘‍♀️!!

Poisonwood · 17/06/2025 09:30

@Healthstartshere I do Ashtanga, Hatha and Vinyasa classes each week and at home I do power yoga every day. I was prescribed it by the hospital and it made such an unbelievable difference to my body and entire wellbeing I decided to become a yoga and meditation teacher. I never dreamt I’d be this fit and strong later in life!

Monvelo · 17/06/2025 20:35

That's ace @Poisonwood

Sadly yoga can disagree with me, the stretching can trigger my sciatica. That might be different under the care of an instructor but it's pilates for me for now!

I've had a good start to the week, currently no knee pain but this is how it goes, good periods and bad periods, so I'm not lulled into anything! I did 1hr pilates class yesterday and 1hr swim this evening, 1300m. The rest of the week I want to go physio every day and a spot of calorie counting, not done any for more than a week.

Healthstartshere · 17/06/2025 22:32

That’s fantastic you are now a yoga teacher @Poisonwood and are super fit from it, I think it’s great exercise (and more). I really look forward to going to my classes (which I can’t say about many other exercises 😂 )
I can feel myself getting stronger with it too, and can hold a plank position now and things I couldn’t manage before.

You are off to a great start this week @Monvelo an hour of swimming- you will sleep like a baby tonight! I hope your aches and pains stay at bay.

I had my first day back in the office today and feel absolutely knackered. Still feeling vaguely dizzy all the time. Off to sleep now. I’ve been eating healthily enough (porridge & raspberries; smoked salmon sandwich & strawberries; veg chilli & wraps, pineapple &soda). Unfortunately when I added it all up it is far too many calories for weight loss so I will try harder tomorrow and will definitely get some fresh air & exercise .
On we go!

Hi All, I hope everyone’s had a good healthy day! I am finally feeling a good bit better and reckon I will be totally well and back to exercise and proper calorie counting tomorrow.
Ive had a busy day, but too boring to describe here. (Chores & errands!)
Food: Skinny latte & banana; leek soup & 1/2 ham sandwich ; roast chicken, new pots & veg. Snack : couple of crackers & smoked salmon. Tea, diluting juice. See, boring day all round 😆. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Poisonwood · 19/06/2025 19:18

@Monvelo how is the physio? Pilates and swimming are such feel-good exercises, hope they are also helping.

@Healthstartshere glad that you are properly on the mend! It can take longer than we think can’t it.

V busy day here with hospital appointments so couldn’t enjoy the first warm day we’ve had in an entire month…though I did walk home with the children from school off the ferry and treat them to an ice lolly so that was nice after everything else.
Porridge, berries, orange juice for breakfast, cup of tea at lunch time and lentil daal and a buttered roll for dinner. Yoga to help me unwind and I think I may have a hot chocolate in bed too.

Healthstartshere · 19/06/2025 20:50

I hope your appointments went well @Poisonwood. I get super stressed with hospital appointments, not least because there is never anywhere to park when you get there 😆 . You live by the sea maybe if ferry’s involved-nice!
How are you feeling today @Monvelo ? we would love to hear (even if you haven’t done your physio 😊).

Busy day at work here, home and straight out to a yoga class. I’ve been going a year now and really don’t find the other yogis in the class very friendly sadly, but the teacher is lovely so I focus on at least one friendly face.

Food: porridge & raspberries; leek soup & cheese sandwich; leftover roast chicken salad. No snacks - trying really hard, though I guess the nights not over yet. I really need to ditch sandwiches though- too many empty carbs/calories.

Thanks for the accountability! I've just done my physio in the garden while my DD read her book to me. It's the coolest place!

Monvelo · 19/06/2025 21:00

Meeting the kids off the ferry, sounds very exotic?!

Lots of swifts overhead here which was nice, love them.

Well done for the healthy food choices both of you and the yoga!

Poisonwood · 20/06/2025 11:01

@Monvelo that sounds such a lovely vibe, you doing it listening to your daughter. I suppose meeting off the ferry does sound exotic, it’s so normal to me I forget 😂.

Poisonwood · 20/06/2025 22:41

Porridge with berries, orange juice. Half a tin of tomato soup, half a roll with cheese spread, salad. Kitkat. Mince and potatoes with veg. Just had a couple of oatcakes. Feels like I’ve eaten lots today.

Healthstartshere · 21/06/2025 00:50

Im late to bed as had to pick DH up from a night out. working day today, with yoga at lunch time and a snooze in garden after work (how hot is it!!??)
Food not ideal at all, but at least I skipped Friday night wine 😆:
B: coffee & 2 small toast & scrape butter
L: veg chilli & tomato & tzatziki
D: bag of crisps & 1/2 tub tzatziki,
S: tea & 2 small toast & scraps butter

have a good weekend!

Oh I just haven’t really got started in June, just so much on and so much drinking! I love summer but it’s terrible for dieting isn’t it?! Anyway. It’s 4 weeks today til my birthday, and I think 7 now til we go away! We’re out tonight but then hopefully the scorching weather will cool off a bit and I can get back to running and not just lazing around all day. i am going to do a little dumbells workout today as well, my plan was to do this a couple of times a week (yeah didn’t happen) but every day is a new opportunity to start.

Healthstartshere · 21/06/2025 15:58

Yah, you are back with us @thenewaveragebear1983 and what better time to get back to than the summer solstice!!
Enjoy your night tonight.

Hi can I join? Going on holiday in 6 weeks and currently 10 stone 4 at 5 ft 2. Started my fitness pal yesterday which has helped me in the past but would like to keep accountable too.

ideal goal weight is 9st 4 but in 6 weeks hoping around 9 st 10 might be doable.

I go to gym a few times a week but doesn’t seem to have stopped me putting on about 6 lbs in past few months 😩

none of my clothes fit so it’s definitely time for action

Healthstartshere · 21/06/2025 20:41

Absolutely @Spudulica17 welcome!
You are similar dimensions to me (I’m 5’1 1/2 - the half is v important to me 😆 - I was 10st7lb at start of month and I am 10st1lb now.) I think your holiday goal is totally achievable!
Full disclosure- (I’m lousy at losing weight and was helped out by a rotten bug in week2!).
Are you going to be counting calories too? What is your usual diet strategy?

OP posts:
Spudulica17 · 21/06/2025 20:54

Thank you @Healthstartshere

You’ve done great! sounds like very good progress. Haha one saving grace of getting sick hey…

An extra half inch in height definitely counts 😁 I feel like where I’m short weight loss and gain always looks more noticeable.

Yes calorie counting, food tracking and think I need to switch up my exercise for something a bit more - might try more weights classes in gym and I love to skate so will try those. Light jogging and cross trainer in the gym isn’t working for me

What’s your strategy? Do you use any apps?

Poisonwood · 21/06/2025 22:26

@Spudulica17 welcome 👋

Lovely day here today. Couple of hours of power yoga, and a nice long walk along the deserted shore. Food was chilli jacket potato and salad, a slice of cake, a magnum and a kitkat. Not healthiest but really mindfully enjoyed it all.
