Flaming Healthy June!

Healthstartshere · 31/05/2025 20:30

June arrives tomorrow. I’m planning a super healthy (but realistic) month and would welcome anyone who would like to join me on 30 days of self improvement.

My aims are weight loss and cultivating a healthier body and mind. I plan to do this by adopting a healthier diet, reducing calories, increasing exercise, reducing alcohol intake, being kinder to myself and enjoying more fresh air and sleep.

I am jotting down a plan of how to do this right now (whilst finishing off the crisps). Come and join me for mutual encouragement of the likeminded, whatever your personal goals for June! 😊

Good on you @Poisonwood your day sounds lovely. My DH doesn’t have a sweet tooth, but is always trying to have me share big bags of crisps. I’ve succumbed tonight 😳 - having them with my wine (instead of the permitted nuts) I’ve had a quiet day at home doing a bit of decorating.
skinny latte: feta omelette & salad, banana : Mexican chicken & wedges: wine & crisps,

I’m feeling a lot better after spending all morning in bed, dozing and scrolling. Inadvertently did a 24 hour fast as I didn’t feel like eating but broke it tonight with a salmon fillet and stir fried veg.

Healthstartshere · 08/06/2025 10:25

Great to hear you are on the mend @Redcase and started with a super healthy meal. Had it been me sick in bed I would have likely rewarded myself with half a loaf of toast with butter and jam!

That’s week 1 done. How did everyone get on? Feeling healthier? Lighter? Stronger? Or in a place of contentment knowing you had a healthier week than the one before? Let us know (even if it didn’t quite go to plan- it’s early days yet!)

My week has gone pretty well. I’ve lost 4lb and feel very pleased as that’s a huge loss for me. (I know it will be lots water in there but don’t care) I’ve eaten healthily, but at the same time I haven’t quite stuck to my alcohol allowance, so I need to work on that. I’ve been to 4 yoga classes but haven’t done much else exercise wise, so room for improvement there too.

Will be lovely to hear everyone’s updates!

👋 hi everyone, wondered if I could join? I started a bit earlier and I'm on day 13 of weightless today. I managed 4lbs in week 1 like you @Healthstartshere but this last week I've only lost 1 measly pound! I've got family coming tonight for dinner, wine and cake and I'm hoping if I eat light throughout the day I won't undo all my hard work.
Lots of omelette and salad so far, and minimal UPF, sugar and white carbs. My little ones have just learnt to bike ride so I did a mega run next to their bikes on Friday and I still ache! Good luck everyone, keep at it!

whengodwasarabbit1 · 08/06/2025 10:55

Oh and at home yoga workouts which I'm finding amazing. 20 mins of yoga with adrienne most days and I can feel actual muscles beneath the skin! Hooray!

Healthstartshere · 08/06/2025 15:01

Welcome @whengodwasarabbit1 It sounds like you are doing a great job so far. It’s great that yoga work’s muscles you forgot you even had isn’t it? I’ve always had a rather big bottom and I can actually see it shrinking a little with all the down dogs 😂
enjoy your night tonight and I’m sure if you can just control quantities you won’t undo all your hard work!

I walked 6km with the dog this morning then ran 11km so not a bad start to the day considering I was hungover. I’ve been in an absolutely foul grumpy mood all day. Tired, bored, grumpy. I haven’t had a great start to June yet, although wierdly I weighed in and I’ve lost 2.5lbs this week 🤷‍♀️ bodies are weird aren’t they?!

my plan this week is to try the calorie cycling again. Starting with a fasting day tomorrow, and another on weds, with varying amounts on the other days.

Monvelo · 08/06/2025 16:55

I agree @thenewaveragebear1983 , I agree bodies are weird! The scales are showing a 3lb loss this week, I know I've eaten less but it's not all been healthy, and I've been limping around and had poor sleep with my back and knee, generally feeling 85 not 42... I want to feel better than this for sure! Let's keep going!

Healthstartshere · 08/06/2025 19:45

Congratulations @thenewaveragebear1983 and @Monvelo on the losses. I don’t know why you are both surprised though, as you have been actively posting on this thread about the healthy choices you have made this week. (I know not 100% has gone as planned). Your hard work has paid off! it’s a great start 😊

@Healthstartshereo guess you are right, but I always feel like my bad choices undo my good ones! I’m now 11st1lb so I would really really like to be under 11 by next weigh in. My period is due and I have a half marathon race next weekend, so those two combined could help! I do need a really strong week though, I need to stop dithering around, and towards the end of the week I will need to be careful to get enough carbs and sleep.

Healthstartshere · 08/06/2025 20:53

Well I think your 3rd sentence explains your grumpiness @thenewaveragebear1983 😂 I hope it comes well before your race.

You can absolutely lose 2lb by next Sunday. I know what you mean about undoing your good work. I’ve spent most of 2025 losing 2lb Monday to Thursday and putting them back on Fri to Sunday!

Redcase · 08/06/2025 21:59

@Healthstartshere I can relate so much to the focus all week then balls it up at weekend! It’s not that I will be out pissed but even a couple of glasses of wine has me craving the carbs and binning off the gym.
I’m going booze free in June as I think this will help my weekends be as healthy as mid week. I’ll weigh in tomorrow morning.
Well done to everyone on the first week losses!

nodtik · 09/06/2025 06:00

@Healthstartsherewith a birthday on Friday and a couple of indulgences over the weekend, I left it to today to weigh …..

Pleased to say I have lost 2.8lbs!

SW: 11st 10lbs
CW: 11st 7.2lbs

Still aiming for 1200 ish calories a day and 10,000 steps on average a day.

Needed a bit of catching up though yesterday, ended up doing 21,000.

But all is good - some great accomplishments here - well done to all xx

nodtik · 09/06/2025 06:03

@Healthstartshere@weareallalittlebitthesamesome great first week losses here!! Congratulations 🙌

Healthstartshere · 09/06/2025 16:57

Congrats on your loss too, and Happy belated birthday @nodtik ! (If it was yours!)

@Redcase I know I’d do better without wine too but it’s so much part of relaxing at the weekend I always cave in to it. Perhaps this weekend coming I can stay strong.

Feeling a bit yukky today, I am going to have a quiet evening and an early night. No exercise here today, just hope I’m not actually falling ill. Can’t even get any motivation up to cook a dinner!

Week 2 underway - my pilates class is back from it's break so that was good tonight. May have eaten a few of the kids chocolate filled wafer stick things... Completely delicious. Hope the bug backs off @Healthstartshere

Poisonwood · 09/06/2025 22:32

1lb loss for me this week, really happy with that! Muscle still increasing too. 2 lovely hours of yoga tonight, and food was good - porridge, homemade soup and dinner was a Mediterranean vegetable stew.

whengodwasarabbit1 · 09/06/2025 23:27

2 hours of yoga is amazing! Well done poisonwood. I need to make some healthy soup too.
I managed carbs wine and cake without gaining but God it's made me hungry today. I had a baked sweet potato to take the edge off but I find a little bit of sugar equals days of sugar cravings. It's so annoying! Well done everyone.

Poisonwood · 11/06/2025 18:46

@Healthstartshere how are you feeling?

Healthstartshere · 11/06/2025 20:05

Hi @Poisonwood thanks for checking on me, that’s kind 😊. I’ve had a rotten bug and spent all yesterday and most of today in bed feeling dizzy and completely fatigued. It’s lifting from me now thankfully. Good news is I’ve hardly eaten- just toast & banana and some cereal, so a little bit of a silver lining is the only way to think about it. I Just feel fed up otherwise. It’s lovely weather here just now, which always seems to be the case when I’m sick.
How are you getting on in week 2? Please report back, I’m so bored now I’m feeling a bit better.

Went to the physio today, so I can regale you with how much physio I have to do, @Healthstartshere

Back bends x10 every hour
Side leg lifts 3x30 reps
Side clams with feet raised 3x30 lifts
Wall squats while squeezing ball between knees then raising heels 3x20

Expecting to have buns of steel shortly...

Food wise doing ok, now I've eaten all the delicious wafer straws full of hazelnut chocolate...

Healthstartshere · 11/06/2025 22:10

Crikey @Monvelo I don’t even know what all those moves are but you will surely end up fit as a fiddle with all that! We will be quizzing you daily to make sure you do them!

OP posts:
Poisonwood · 12/06/2025 09:41

I’m glad you’re recovering @Healthstartshere, there’s a lot going around at the minute.

@Monvelo physio can make such an amazing difference, I hope it does for you.

Yesterday I made a harissa braised tofu & veg dish that was delicious and I ate all the leftovers I planned to save for today…oops. Everything’s ticking along well I think, but I’ve not hit the ravenous part of monthly cycle yet.

Healthstartshere · 13/06/2025 23:35

Hi All. Sorry I’ve not been on much, wasn’t my intention when I started the thread but I’ve not had the week I expected. I am still not feeling 100%. Others would take this opportunity to be glad they didn’t have much appetite and graze on a green salad. I however, in typical self sabotaging form, decided its so miserable feeling under the weather I should just eat the few things I fancy (which has been buttered white bread sandwiches, popcorn & icecream 🤦‍♀️).

Anyway, I’m hoping to goodness I will feel back to normal tomorrow and if so will make a big pot of veg soup and only healthy things.
How is everyone else getting on? I’ve never eaten tofu @Poisonwood but you are almost selling it to me! I hope your physio was done for today @Monvelo ?! Have a lovely weekend all,
