Flaming Healthy June!

Healthstartshere · 31/05/2025 20:30

June arrives tomorrow. I’m planning a super healthy (but realistic) month and would welcome anyone who would like to join me on 30 days of self improvement.

My aims are weight loss and cultivating a healthier body and mind. I plan to do this by adopting a healthier diet, reducing calories, increasing exercise, reducing alcohol intake, being kinder to myself and enjoying more fresh air and sleep.

I am jotting down a plan of how to do this right now (whilst finishing off the crisps). Come and join me for mutual encouragement of the likeminded, whatever your personal goals for June! 😊

Good evening!
About an hour of treadmill and strength today, and better food wise than yesterday when after a few glasses of wine- out came the snacks!
Holidaying in South France @Healthstartshere, camping, gite-staying, and 4 days of a very full on wedding . I can't afford to eat myself out of my dresses for the wedding so will have to be careful until it's over!
Hoping to have a healthy and happy holiday, but do love proper french eclairs! And a few glasses of non calorie counted wine.
So looking forward to it!

Healthstartshere · 04/06/2025 21:04

I hope your daughter is doing ok @Poisonwood Having to take a DC to E&A is certainly never a fun day out 😞.

Monvelo, do you know what causes your pain? I have ibruprofen gel and if can be quite good rubbed into sore legs before bed.

Very busy day here, housework and workmen in house morning, and running errands and shopping in a different town in the afternoon (so lots driving too). It was my day ‘off’ my paid job but if often ends up like this!
I’ve eaten low cal healthy again so pleased with that. Bit of walking. I’m starting to miss things a bit but must remember I can have treats at weekends and just need to really focus!
Keep at it everyone!!

Oh that sounds lovely @Buntyforgirls camping and big wedding sounds a fun combination!

@Healthstartshere funnily enough I discovered ibuprofen gel a few weeks ago, it is very good! I've had issues with herniated discs for 7yrs which sometimes gives me sciatica, and added in knee issues since before Christmas to do with holey patella tendons and knee tracking issues. Generally things are low level pain not chronic but it gets better and worse in a wave like pattern.

Monvelo · 04/06/2025 21:59

France and wedding sounds perfect!

Redcase · 04/06/2025 22:01

A French wedding with lots of wine sounds amazing
My self care today is an early ish night. Feel rotten with a cold

Monvelo · 05/06/2025 13:57

Struggling today, leg pain, kept awake as night and pain and sciatica today, not sure what's triggered it to this extent. Maybe did too much. So ate chocolate. Then realised what I was doing and instead ate lentils I didn't want in order to be too full of goodness for more chocolate. Also self referred to NHS physio. Ordered a knee support. And Tim pain relief. Points for being proactive?!

Buntyforgirls · 05/06/2025 14:09

Thanks everybody, it will be fun, and my plan is to at least keep up with my daily yoga- even if only 10 minutes with Kassandra, and to possibly start C25K- a gentle run/ walk around campsite and chateau grounds might be bearable! I have also bought a non- rope skipping rope, which might motivate me as it is something new!
Food and wine will be more difficult to abstain from, I am realistic about that, but hoping to be mindful and moderate.
That's my holiday plan...
So sorry to hear about aches and pains @Monvelo @Redcase , and def points for trying to damage limit with mindfulness, strategies and self care.
Have a good day, All!

Poisonwood · 05/06/2025 14:25

@Monvelo definitely well done of being proactive! Pain really takes a toll, every win however small should be celebrated.

I have two hours of Pilates and Yoga classes tonight. Breakfast was porridge with berries, then jacket potato with bean/veg chilli and salad for lunch, and a danish pastry with a thermos of tea sat in the car looking at the rain and the sea…it was relaxing. Self care is the yoga and I’ll meditate before bed.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/06/2025 19:51

I feel like I’ve not had a particularly healthy June so far, my meals have been ok but it doesn’t take much to go way over if you factor in a birthday card if various other goodies around the house. I will never not want them but I also should have realised by now that I cannot moderate them, I’m just going to have to be more strict and say NO.

Healthstartshere · 05/06/2025 21:46

@Monvelo : ‘’ate chocolate. Then realised what I was doing and instead ate lentils I didn't want in order to be too full of goodness for more chocolate’’ ….. 😂 sorry maybe i shouldn’t laugh but it is funny! 😆 I hope your aches give you a better nights sleep tonight.
your day sounds good @Poisonwood and
@thenewaveragebear1983, don’t be too hard on yourself, birthdays are to be celebrated- perhaps more a day for damage limitation than stellar results.

speaking of birthdays, is it yours today @nodtik ? Must be coming up soon if not today!
I had a full busy day in the office, then yoga class, then a nice bath. Self care was a little bit of retail therapy in my lunch break. Food as planned: Porridge, sushi, chop& salad. I would usually definitely be on the wine by Thursday evening but desperately avoiding it. I will be so cross with myself if I fail after starting this thread in first place. You are all helping me stay back from wine & crisps, chess, bread, chocolate……

Oh yeah I've gone for comedy effect 😆

Poisonwood · 05/06/2025 22:28

@Healthstartshere I didn’t realise chess was fattening, maybe that’s where I’ve been going wrong! 😉😁

Healthstartshere · 05/06/2025 23:17

lol @Poisonwood oh dear , I think I am just tired and mixing up my words (because I’m delirious with hunger!).

Tomorrow is Friday all. Let’s stay committed and tackle our first June weekend with determination. Let’s remember the intentions we all set out with on 1st June. Not a single ‘what the hell it’s the weekend’ not a whisper of ‘I’ll start properly from Monday’ THIS IS IT!

Good morning, I definitely can’t give in because it is the weekend. The point of doing varied calorie amounts was so that I could relax a little at the weekend, however I have already had several high calorie days which means that technically I have not afforded myself that luxury. However, in the interests of preserving my sanity, I am not going to try to do multiple fasting days to “make up”, I am just going to stick with my plan and stick to the amounts I agreed, and stick to my workouts schedule.

today is a fast day however, and I have prepped and been to the supermarket in readiness. I will go for a run this morning, then aim to fast until lunchtime. I’ve planned a big salad with tuna, a couple of boiled eggs for snacks, and dinner will be chicken thigh fillets with a Simply Cook recipe kit for Korean drumsticks, and I will serve that with loads of veg.

I want to have a big clear out of my wardrobe this weekend, inspired by some threads on s&b board, plus finish some decorating. We have my son’s football awards at a local pub but I am ok not drinking there, and I really do need to at least try to do a longer run as next weekend I have a half marathon that I have not trained for. So should be a busy and productive weekend.

Redcase · 06/06/2025 07:01

Good luck @thenewaveragebear1983 It sounds like you have a good plan in place which is definitely half the battle.
Ive not shifted this damn cold yet and slept badly due to coughing. The upside is that I don’t feel like drinking one bit!
Im going to use the weekend to rest and put together a meal and workout plan for next week as well as food shop so I can do some meal prep

Poisonwood · 06/06/2025 18:34

@thenewaveragebear1983 hooe the day has gone as you planned.
@Redcase get well soon.

I’ve had a good day, porridge with Greek yoghurt & berries for breakfast, 1/2 tin tomato soup and a slice of bread and cheese spread, then dinner was chicken, new potatoes and green veg. A lemon shortbread as a Friday treat with a pretty cup of tea. 30 minutes of power yoga.

Plan for the weekend is enjoyable healthy food, a couple of nice walks, yoga and meditation both days and a long hot bath at some point, maybe push the boat out and have two 😁.

Buntyforgirls · 06/06/2025 20:17

Your weekend sounds blissful @Poisonwood ! People would pay for that!
Happy, healthy weekend to all.

Healthstartshere · 06/06/2025 21:09

Evening all. I nearly forgot to catch up today! Busy working day today.
@thenewaveragebear1983 you sound very organized and your plan for weekend sounds good. What’s simply cook like? I’ve tried Hello Fresh and Gousto before, is it same kind of thing?
Get better soon @Redcase My DD is coming down with something too. There are a lot of bugs around.
@Poisonwood your menu today sounds lovely. I have a bath every evening if I’m at home 😄 (probably why nothing else gets done!)
Fri: 1 poached egg on toast: lentil soup & little cheese; homemade grilled fish & chips, peas; wine & few cashews. Bliss! I did Lunchtime yoga class & had a potter in garden before my bath.
Have a great Saturday all!

@Healthstartsheresimply cook is here you just get the seasoning and a recipe card, you have the buy the ingredients. I like it though because I can pad the meals out to make enough for 5 of us whereas with hello fresh it’s all measured out, plus I find I can sub things out/make changes etc. It is just like buying recipe kits from the supermarket I guess, but I like them and I don’t think I’ve had one that’s not been delicious.

An hour of power yoga, Greek yoghurt for breakfast, omelette and salad for lunch and then an options hot chocolate a danish pastry and a kitkat. Not the healthiest after lunch lol but I kept the calories low enough I suppose, and had a relaxing time with DH as well which did us the world of good.
