Flaming Healthy June!

Healthstartshere · 31/05/2025 20:30

June arrives tomorrow. I’m planning a super healthy (but realistic) month and would welcome anyone who would like to join me on 30 days of self improvement.

My aims are weight loss and cultivating a healthier body and mind. I plan to do this by adopting a healthier diet, reducing calories, increasing exercise, reducing alcohol intake, being kinder to myself and enjoying more fresh air and sleep.

I am jotting down a plan of how to do this right now (whilst finishing off the crisps). Come and join me for mutual encouragement of the likeminded, whatever your personal goals for June! 😊

I've somehow come in below the 1300 cals mfp allocated me. But I don't agree with it that I'll lose any weight on that allowance! Pretty sure I'll maintain at 1200-1300. Seems like a good place to start though as lots of veg today and a good walk.

Redcase · 01/06/2025 21:59

Hi I’ll join (Late as ever)
Ive had a merry old May and lay in bed this morning feeling g bloated and sluggish. I decided to have a health focused June and then saw this thread!
I’m going to cut out the booze to help with calorie deficit and fat loss.
keep to my gym routine - 4 times a week - mix of cardio and strength training
I’m also going to add in some self care each day so that it doesn’t feel like it’s depriving myself. I need to keep these cheap/ free. Today’s was shower/ shower exfoliate and applied fake tan. Any ideas to help me out?
Good luck everyone

Monvelo · 01/06/2025 22:11

@Redcase welcome! Do you like yoga eg sun salutations or sunset? I always think they sound like a good way to start the day, although not particularly tried them myself! I like black coffee so something like a black coffee in the garden on my own would be a good cheap luxury.

Healthstartshere · 01/06/2025 22:48

Pulp will be a great night out @thenewaveragebear1983 ! (I’d eat first though if several drinks 😝)
Welcome @Redcase ! Not sure about daily self care, but I love yoga, gardening and bubble baths if any of that appeals? I’m going to start going to bed early from tomorrow night to read proper books. I’m also going to start a proper skincare routine and take time to try and grow my nails by looking after them. My DD teen is very into all the beauty stuff and I feel like I’m a constant disappointment (embarrassing mum) as I’m so unkempt. I have a feeling I’m going to have more time to tackle all this in June!
I definitely drink far too often so on all the AF nights I’m also going to be productive and spring clean, sort cupboards, write out recipes and be more organised.

Have a good week all. Tomorrow is Monday and we’re already ahead of the game by having a healthy Sunday.

@Monvelo

Well done on coming in under 1300 calories, I am sure you will lose on that amount!

The self care idea is great too, for me it’s definitely a case of too much ‘doom scrolling’ of an evening.

I will make a point of leaving my phone out of reach, the habit is real if it’s next to me!

Good luck all for Day 2!

Buntyforgirls · 02/06/2025 07:41

Good morning all!
Going to start the day with 10 minutes of yoga with Kassandra. Busy day @ work so this may be all I have time for today until bedtime yoga. But at least 10 minutes a day is one of my goals as we go on holiday at the weekend- going to do my best to keep healthy as well as enjoy indulging myself,if that's possible!
Overnight oats ready for lunch.
Have a good day everyone!

Monvelo · 02/06/2025 15:40

I'm remembering how much of a pain My Fitness Pal is for homemade food... Going ok today though! Had to make lunch early as was hungry and didn't want to snack! Just trying to resist post-school-run snacks. There's a theme...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/06/2025 20:43

I’ve been an absolute slimming angel today, I did a fast day so I am coming in at 800 calories. I did a slow 5km run and walked the dog morning and evening. Tomorrow is my office day, my calorie allowance is higher but that’s a good thing because it’s my sons 13th birthday, we are going to a pub for a meal in the evening and I will very likely have at least a taste of cake.

nodtik · 02/06/2025 21:12

@thenewaveragebear1983 awesome calories intake and exercise!! Well done xx

Healthstartshere · 02/06/2025 21:14

Hi all, and apologies for me getting confused yesterday - too many new names to learn !

I congratulated @nodtik with ‘walking off’ all the calories in @Monvelo ’ s sandwich 🤦‍♀️. You are all v polite indeed not to have called me out on it 😂 !
Monvelo, do you use the meal and recipe create facility on MFP? I always store recipes then bring them up and tweak them to suit next time around, which saves a bit of time.

Happy birthday to you son tomorrow @thenewaveragebear1983. You managing a run on 800 calories is admirable indeed.

Where are you off to on holiday @Bunty?
I bet you are near counting the hours stage. We have nothing booked for summer yet but will hopefully get something soon.

Well done everyone who managed to exercise today. How did everyone else get on? We’re a couple of women down, please share with us, good or bad.

I work Mondays at a desk all day. I have managed some housework and a little gardening afterwards but haven’t don’t proper exercise since yoga class yesterday.
I’ve eaten well though : strawberries & yoghurt; chicken salad; stuffed mushrooms with salad & couple new potatoes; 2 tangerines. I’ve not plugged it all into MFP yet to check calories but feel confident it’s ok.
Ive made cauliflower soup to take to work tomorrow too, so good day other than not finding time for a walk.

Redcase · 02/06/2025 22:09

Sounds like everyone is off to a good start. I had a desk day but did get out for a 5k walk this evening.
Breakfast (overnight oats) and dinner (salmon and veggies rice) are prepped for tomorrow. Not sure about evening meal yet.
My self care was not bringing work home.

Bollynicks · 03/06/2025 03:40

You all sound like a friendly bunch can I join in. I've got the Nutracheck app which has set my daily calories to 1400. Sadly I have two and a half stone to lose. Currently 12 stone 7 would like to be 10 stone.

Poisonwood · 03/06/2025 09:29

Did 2 hours of yoga yesterday, and ate healthy and filling food. Didn’t do as well with water as the day before, will try harder today.

Buntyforgirls · 03/06/2025 13:07

Everyone seems off to a good start, well done, welcome to @Bollynicks !
2 hours of yoga is great @Poisonwood . I'm beginning to see the positives of yoga, not only has my flexibility and strength (a little) improved, but I am enjoying the breathing and flowing element, letting go into the pose and trying to relax rather than strain, if that makes sense!
More water, yes, me too.
That has to be the best and most nurturing self care @Redcase, and not always easy.
Have a positive day, all!

Monvelo · 03/06/2025 18:55

Low calorie day for me today, less than 1000! Got an evening meeting today to keep me out of trouble.

2hrs yoga is very impressive!

Poisonwood · 03/06/2025 19:28

@Monvelo thank you - I find it so much fun I find it easy to do lots. Never thought years ago that I’d ever say that about daily exercise 😂.

Today I’ve eaten well (porridge with berries, homemade soup & cheese salad roll, protein shake) but still not getting my damn water! My adhd and general life-busyness seem to make this SO hard to remember even when I want to. Frustrating is an understatement. Am having a pint now which is better than nothing.

Monvelo · 03/06/2025 20:44

Successfully didn't eat cake at meeting.......

Healthstartshere · 03/06/2025 21:00

Hi Everyone and welcome @Bollynicks Great to have you join us! Don’t be overwhelmed by what you have to lose, just join the rest of us in focusing on getting the most out of June, as a starter for a bright future (I was going to say ‘skinny’ but it sounds so shallow 😂)
@Redcase your menu sounds good so perhaps you can just start popping on an extra portion for me 😂.
I love yoga too, but I never manage 2 hours a day 🤩 @Poisonwood .

I started regular yoga classes last summer and I am definitely far more flexible and stronger (ok, I had got to point where I had to be up an hour before I could bend to get my socks on). I have great instructors for it at my classes too, which really helps. I just really need to be doing weights and more cardio too!

Another office day here, managed a yoga class and stationary bike before work, sod all since.

B: Skinny latte; Strawberries, yoghurt& a little muesli on top
L: Cauliflower soup & Tiny cheese sandwich
D: Mackerel salad with few new potatoes
S: 2 tangerines.

Day 3 done folks!
….result on cake stoicism @Monvelo

Redcase · 03/06/2025 22:03

Yum, mackerel salad with new potatoes sounds good.
I got drenched on an evening walk to get my steps in!
self care is doing my nails

nodtik · 04/06/2025 06:16

It all sounds like everyone is on track, apologies for the radio silence yesterday, busy headteacher trying to get her head back in the game at the start of half term.

Monday’s calories were 1276
Tuesday’s calories were 1301

Steps Monday were 11,089
Tuesday only 5434 - late night governors’ meeting meant I didn’t get home until nearly 8pm.

Avoiding the scales ….. but have been hungry at times, so feel like I am already a size 8 🤣🤣

Determined to get steps up today and a better work life balance!

So many inspiring stories of good habits being formed!! Xx

nodtik · 04/06/2025 06:17

@Monvelono cake and less than 1000 calories! Awesome 🙌 xx

nodtik · 04/06/2025 06:18

@BollynicksWelcome - I use Nutracheck too, find it easier than MFP!

Hope you have made a good start! Xx

Monvelo · 04/06/2025 11:24
Adam Sandler Water GIF

@Poisonwood (have you read the book by Barbara Kingsolver) - here's a reminder to get yourself a nice thirst quenching drink of water!
Hope everyone's having a good day.

Poisonwood · 04/06/2025 17:21

@Monvelo thank you!! I went and got some on reading that lol. How are you doing? Yes, it’s one of my very favourite books, I recommend it to everyone I can, and gift it often. Superb read.

I’ve had a chaotic day, mostly spent in A&E with adult daughter - she’s home which is good - but it’s definitely limited my food and liquid and energy. Had porridge with berries, a high calorie protein shake thing and will have a jacket potato and salad in a while. Have done an hour of power yoga and self care is also going to be a long bath with incense. And a cup of water!

Monvelo · 04/06/2025 19:35

That's very stressful, hope she's ok!!!

I also love the poisonwood bible, and really enjoyed Demon Copperfield recently too.

I've not calorie counted today, I don't plan on doing it all the time, today's food would have been a pain to log! Had left over Mac n cheese with the last cabbage apple slaw for lunch and hot dogs for tea, no real exercise, knee and leg pain all day today and kept me up in the night. This sounds negative but it feels like an ok day actually. Still on it.
