Why are you NOT on injections?

Just curious why other people have chosen not to go down the glp 1 route.

For me I have just heard one too many horror stories. I am extremely grateful to be in a healthy (albeit overweight) body that I just can’t take the risk. I have a random phobia of vomit/nausea. Genuinely couldn’t think of much worse in terms of side effects.

Also, I have lost significant amounts of weight in the past. And once I get going I don’t find it too difficult. So I know I don’t really need the medication. I can keep it off too as long as I don’t use food as a crutch when going through a difficult time. The weight I’m losing right now al came on during my divorce process. I lived off lasagna and cheese boards. Just to cheer myself up. Luckily I am in a better place

And id rather have the money each month (thinking of treating myself to a cosmetic treatment and it’s more justifiable in my head if I think I’ve saved money from not spending it on wl jabs).

I really dont think poorly of people who choose medication. Just thought I should say that.

You can't be putting a foreign substance in your body without a long-term side effect.

Appreciate for some the trade off is their immediate health but I'm lucky in that if I stick to a meal plan etc then the weight comes and stays off. I know I can be a right greedy get and will suffer for it, but that's on me and I have to eat like a saint the other side of it.

Emoleno · 09/04/2025 17:43

Cost. I'd love to be on Ozempic, but I can't afford it.

Newyeargymwanker · 09/04/2025 17:45

They won’t give it to me.
BMI of 27 with an athletic build.

Body fat % of 26

I want a body fat % of 20

LateMumma · 09/04/2025 17:48

Partly cost, I can afford it but would rather not, and partly because I can’t quite see what the plan would be when I’d hit goal weight. I don’t want to be on it forever, and I know I can lose and keep weight off if I stick to a meal plan, so will give that a go first

nbee84 · 09/04/2025 18:02

Because my bmi isn't high enough. It's 27 but I have no underlying health conditions. What appeals about Ozempic is how people say it switches off the 'food noise' I'm constantly picking and thinking about food and what my next meal is and would love to be one of those people that eats to live rather than lives to eat.

Onetwothreefour1234 · 09/04/2025 18:36

I think I need to loose the weight myself and understand what works for me, I know the injections would help me but equally I'd have to stop and some point and would go back to old habits and gain the weight back and maybe more.

I want to learn how to care for myself better. We are all individuals and have different approaches and needs, it's what makes us us. There is no right or wrong way, just personal choice 😊

Scutterbug · 09/04/2025 18:37

Too expensive. Otherwise I would be on them like a shot.

TheRoundTable1983 · 09/04/2025 18:39

I did, but the hair loss was so severe, I decided to go back to doing it the natural way!

Iridescentdragon · 09/04/2025 18:43

Cost. Due to a back injury I'm a lot less mobile than I used to be so my weight has increased. If I could afford the injections I'd definitely give it a go.

Guistarry · 09/04/2025 18:46

I tried MJ and the side effects were awful for me, I thought to myself as my BMI was just on the borderline so just eligible I'll see if I can do this alone this time and only try them again if I'm desperate as honestly never felt so ill.

It's been a great motivator- 2.5 stone down and within a healthy BMI.

TooFancyNancy · 09/04/2025 18:46

Currently pregnant, but even if I wasn’t we just can’t afford it at all. If there was anyway of making it work and finding the money I would.

ConflictofInterest · 09/04/2025 18:50

Cost, but I think in some ways I'm scared of losing the weight, it's my safety blanket.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/04/2025 18:52

It didn't occur to me to go for injections. I've lost almost 3.5 stone in the last 12 months by changing my diet (cutting out white flour, sugar, white rice, potatoes). Have an extra 3/4 of a stone to go but really don't care if my weight stops here as I look and feel so much better already.

Danikm151 · 09/04/2025 18:53

Cost.
I am on the referral list for weight
management and my dr has suggested that injections may be a possibility as orlistat didn’t work for me but who knows how long the waitlists are.

LeaveTaking · 09/04/2025 18:55

Long term effects, when a medication isn’t entirely necessary.

Similar to what someone said earlier, I’m overweight but fairly healthy so it doesn’t feel worth the risk.

FlatErica · 09/04/2025 18:57

It’s too expensive and apparently the weight goes back on when you stop. I can’t afford to be injected for the rest of my effing life.

Jollyjoy · 09/04/2025 18:58

I’d just never take a medication that wasn’t medically necessary. I’m overweight but not obese. In some cases the health risks of obesity are probably more risky than the medication so I can understand the decision, but not for me. I’d also be suspicious about the long term risks that are not yet known, but again, long term obesity carries risks too.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 09/04/2025 18:58

Can’t afford them.

CheesyRaver · 09/04/2025 19:00

I'm not allowed them due to an auto immune disease

twilightermummy · 09/04/2025 19:01

Yeah the hair loss is insane. I'm really struggling with that.

ScratchyMcScratchface · 09/04/2025 19:03

twilightermummy · 09/04/2025 19:01

Yeah the hair loss is insane. I'm really struggling with that.

Interesting. Is the hair loss caused by the injections themselves or is it a result of reducing calories and nutrition too extremely when on the injections?

Lampzade · 09/04/2025 19:07

The injections don’t cause the hair loss, it is the drastic rate of weight loss in addition to the lack of protein

Iloveeverycat · 09/04/2025 19:08

To lose weight I just cut out sugar, biscuits, chocolates and snacking between meals. Works for me every time. I don't need an injection.

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 09/04/2025 19:13
  1. The cost.
  2. Have mate who's diabetic, we had a chat about the risks and side effects. There's no need for me to take the risk when I don't medically need it.

All that said, I'm still waivering on the decision.

pearbottomjeans · 09/04/2025 19:14

Want to get in the zone and absolutely beast it myself

Autoimmune disease - don’t want to rock the boat

Cost

Unknown long term side effects

Im the same with other things eg contraception, Botox, don’t want things going in me

How do you ever come off them

Also DH goes away a lot so won’t be able to jab me - literally can’t do it myself, same with my post c section jabs 🤢

My mum is on tablet ozempic so no judgement from me!
